What a repair cannot fix

Before you book, it’s worth knowing the limits too:

  • Acrylic that moves when you stand in it
  • Damage hidden under a previous coating, until it’s stripped back
  • A bath split right through the body

Not sure? Send pictures and we’ll give you a straight answer.

Materials we repair

  • Acrylic baths
  • Basins & shower trays
  • Pressed steel baths
  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Cast iron baths

How we handle bath re-enamelling in Muchalls

Most baths are re-enamelled in a day, with the bath ready to use the following day. Taps, tiles, panels and plumbing all stay in place. Whether it’s a dull, rough surface that won’t come clean and wear marks under the taps, we can help, whatever the material.

A one-year guarantee comes as standard, so you’re not left on your own once we have gone.

Do you need bath re-enamelling in Muchalls?

Enamel’s shine is only skin deep, and abrasive cleaning slowly wears it away. After years of use, the surface becomes porous and stains easily.

Keep an eye out for these signs:

  • Several chips and rust patches
  • Wear marks under the taps
  • A peeling or bubbling previous coating
  • An original cast iron bath that needs restoring

What your quote should include

  • Whether a trained technician does the job
  • Whether they match the colour on site
  • A fixed price, and whether VAT is included
  • When it can be used again

FAQs for Muchalls

How long is the bath unusable?

Typically a day, then it’s ready to use the following day. A badly pitted bath can need a second day.

Can tenants book a repair?

Yes, though it’s best to check with your landlord first. Many landlords are happy for a repair to be arranged.

How durable is a resurfaced bath?

Look after it and it lasts. Avoid abrasive cleaners and suction mats.

Do you do work for letting agents?

Yes, frequently. We can quote for several properties together and work between tenancies.

Is there a guarantee?

Every repair comes with a one-year guarantee. Ask us what it covers when you get your quote.

Will the price change on the day?

It’s rare, but if it happens we talk to you first. You decide whether to go ahead.

Can pets and children be at home?

We ask you to keep children and pets out of the room while we work and until it has cured. The rest of the house is unaffected.

Do you cover the whole of Aberdeenshire?

We work UK-wide, and that includes Muchalls. Prices don’t change with location.

Why repair rather than replace?

A replacement frequently means several trades over several days. Re-enamelling is one technician, usually one day, with the bath back in use the next day. Prices start from £350. Compared with replacing, repairing normally costs far less, because there is no removal, plumbing or making good. Your fixed quote shows exactly what’s included.

Why Muchalls customers choose us

  • A year’s guarantee on all work
  • Most jobs done in one visit

What happens on the day

You don’t need to empty the room. We bring everything we need with us, put protection down and start once you’re happy with the plan. It generally takes the best part of a day, and you can get on with other things while we’re there.

  1. The bathroom is protected and ventilation set up.
  2. We remove the old silicone and deep clean the bath.
  3. We repair chips, rust spots and pitting.
  4. The surface is keyed and primed for the new finish.
  5. Several coats of finish are sprayed on, then it cures until the following day.

Before we arrive

  • Open a window if you can
  • Mention any earlier repairs or resurfacing
  • Clear toiletries, mats and anything else from around the area

DIY kit or professional repair?

A kit can be fine for a tiny mark out of sight. For anything you look at every day, anything that has rusted, cracked or holed, or anything on a coloured surface, a professional repair is worth it.

You can buy a DIY kit for most repairs, and they can make a small mark look better. Where they fall down is colour and preparation: they come in a handful of shades, and if the surface is not prepared the repair will not last.

Different materials, different repairs

Acrylic

We resurface acrylic baths as well, using a system that bonds to acrylic. It must be solid and not flex underfoot.

Roll-top and period baths

We can resurface a roll-top inside and out, with the outside refinished as well.

Keeping it looking good

Once the work has cured, treat it gently:

  • Never use suction bath mats
  • Leave the bath for the full curing time before using it
  • Have chips seen to early
  • Stick to gentle, non-abrasive cleaners

Treat the new finish gently at first: give it the full curing time, then clean it gently. After that, no abrasives and no suction mats.

Leave a peeling coating alone. Moisture gets underneath and makes it worse, so have it stripped and resurfaced.

Landlords, agents and businesses in Muchalls

Landlords, letting agents and housing providers in Muchalls use us as well as homeowners. A repair between tenants keeps the property empty for less time, and it costs much less than replacing.

Rented homes see more wear and tear, and replacing things at every changeover adds up. Repairing between tenants keeps the property presentable for less.
