Bath re-enamelling in Newton Village

Bath re-enamelling in Newton Village without replacing anything

The bath stays where it is, so your taps, tiles and plumbing are left alone. It usually takes one visit, with the bath ready to use the following day. Common call-outs are for a dull, rough surface that won’t come clean and a peeling or bubbling previous coating, in basins & shower trays, Victorian roll-tops and pressed steel baths.

We guarantee the work for a year. If something is not right in that time, we come back and put it right.

Repairs by material

Acrylic

Acrylic baths can be resurfaced too, using a system that bonds to acrylic. The bath needs to be firm and well supported.

Roll-top and period baths

Freestanding roll-tops can be done inside and out, and the outside can be refinished too.

How it works

We turn up at the time we agreed with you, introduces themselves and checks the damage against your pictures first. The floor and nearby surfaces are covered before we open a single tin. Most visits take a full day, and we leave the room as we found it.

  1. We mask and protect the room and ventilate it.
  2. We clean and degrease the bath and repair any chips or rust.
  3. We key the surface and put on a bonding primer.
  4. Several coats of new finish are sprayed on.
  5. The bath is left to cure and can usually be used the day after.

How to prepare

  • Open a window if you can
  • Let us know if it has been repaired before
  • Keep pets and children out of the room while we work

Advice

Looking after it afterwards

Looking after the surface is easy, and it makes a real difference:

  • A quick wipe after use keeps limescale away
  • Never use suction bath mats
  • Do not let dyes or oils sit on the finish
  • Store bottles off the bath

Dry the bath after use if possible, and rinse away any product left on the surface.

Leave a peeling coating alone. Water gets under it and the damage spreads, so it’s better to have it stripped and redone.

Should I try a DIY kit first?

What a professional repair adds is preparation, colour matching and finishing. We clean and key the area properly, mix the colour to your surface and finish it to the same sheen, then guarantee it for a year.

For a hairline mark somewhere you’ll never see, a kit may be enough. For damage in plain view, cracks, holes or rust, or coloured finishes, it’s worth having it done properly.

Repairing versus replacing in Newton Village

Replacing a bath can take several days across several trades. Resurfacing takes one technician and generally a day, with the bath back in use the following day. Resurfacing from £350, with every job priced individually. Every job is a little different, so each one is priced on its own. What’s damaged, how badly and how easy it is to reach all make a difference, and combining jobs on one visit brings the cost down.

Why choose Surface Doctor in Newton Village

  • Most jobs done in one visit
  • Rooms protected and left tidy
  • Honest advice, even when it means no job
  • Same prices wherever you are

Read our full price list and guide to resurfacing and replacement costs.

Prices and what affects them

Resurfacing from £350. Each job gets its own fixed quote. This is what makes a difference:

  • Whether it’s a chip, crack, burn or wear
  • Where the damage is and how we get to it
  • Whether old repairs or coatings need taking off
  • How much damage there is

The price reflects the work involved, not where you live. You’ll see the full price before you book, with no extras added later.

Send pictures for a quote

We price nearly every job from pictures. This is what we need:

  • Where you are, by postcode
  • What it’s made of, if you know
  • Good light, ideally daylight, without flash glare
  • A photo taken from further back

There’s no need for us to visit first. Photos are enough for us to price nearly every job: send a close-up, a wider shot and your postcode, and we’ll come back to you with a fixed figure.

What we can’t put right

A repair is not right for every job, for example:

  • A bath split right through the body
  • An acrylic bath that flexes badly underfoot
  • A bath that is rusted through

If in doubt, send pictures and we will say what we think.

What we work on

  • Cast iron baths
  • Pressed steel baths
  • Basins & shower trays
  • Acrylic baths
  • Victorian roll-tops

It depends on the job, but often a little. Open windows and an extractor fan help.

Will it make a mess?

Very little mess: we sheet and mask everything nearby, and we take our waste away with us.

Someone resurfaced my bath and it’s peeling. Can you help?

In most cases. We strip the failing coating and resurface it properly. Tell us about it when you ask for a quote.

Just photos, your postcode and a contact number. On the day, access to the room.

Yes, often. We can quote for several properties together and work between tenancies.

Can you price it without visiting?

Nearly always. If pictures don’t show enough, we will ask for another angle.

We need someone to let us in. After that, you can carry on with your day.

I rent my home. Can I book you?

Yes. Check with your landlord; we can send the quote to them too.
