Bath re-enamelling in North Shields

Work for landlords and builders

We regularly price jobs from inventory or check-out pictures. That means we can quote before you even visit the property, and we liaise with tenants about access if you’d like us to.

Hotels, guest houses and holiday lets can’t afford rooms out of action for long, so most of our work is done in a single visit. We can work around your bookings.

Bath re-enamelling in North Shields, done in place

We clean, repair and prime the bath before spraying the new finish. Most of the work, and most of the durability, is in the preparation, so we don’t cut corners on it. Our technicians work on Victorian roll-tops, basins & shower trays and acrylic baths, and the jobs we see most are a roll-top that’s seen better days and enamel that’s lost its shine and feels rough.

You’re covered for a year from the day of the repair. Just call us if there is a problem and we’ll sort it.

What affects the price in North Shields

Prices start from £350. We price every job individually. What matters most is:

  • How many areas need work
  • Access to the area
  • The material
  • What kind of damage it is

Rather than charging by the hour, we price the whole job up front. It depends on the damage, the material and access, and combining items on one visit brings it down.

Send pictures for a quote

Two or three clear photos are typically enough. Try to include:

  • Daylight if possible, and no flash reflection
  • One picture of the whole bath
  • The material, if you know it
  • Where you are, by postcode

To get a price, send a couple of photos using our quote form or ring us. We will tell you honestly if a repair is the right fix.

Common questions in North Shields

How much does bath re-enamelling cost in North Shields?

Prices start from £350. The exact price depends on the damage, so we quote from photos. You will get a fixed figure before booking.

Do you work in North Shields?

Yes. We cover the whole UK and travel to North Shields. Send pictures and we’ll quote, or call 0345 017 0787.

Is there a smell?

Yes, while we’re applying the finish. We set up ventilation and the smell fades as it cures.

How long does re-enamelling take?

Normally one day, with the bath ready the day after. Deeply pitted baths may need a second day.

Is repairing better than replacing?

Generally, yes. Replacement brings removal, refitting and making good, which a repair avoids. We will be honest if it’s not worth it.

Can pets and children be at home?

On the day, the room should be kept clear of pets and children.

Will the price change on the day?

The price is fixed for what the photos show. Anything extra is discussed before we begin.

It’s been repaired before. Can you still fix it?

Most of the time. Let us know what was used before.

How to look after the repair

Looking after the surface is easy:

  • Rinse off hair dye, oils and bath bombs right away
  • Leave the bath for the full curing time before using it
  • Clean with a soft cloth and mild detergent
  • Get any chip repaired quickly

Avoid hair dye, bath bombs and oils sitting on the surface, as they can stain. Repair dripping taps promptly.

On a worn bath, rust spots keep spreading. It’s simpler to resurface before they spread.

Should I try a DIY kit first?

If you’re set on a kit, follow its instructions closely and work on a clean, dry surface, and give it the full curing time. If it does not work out, we can still repair it properly.

DIY kits are sold for most surfaces, and they can tidy up a tiny mark. Where they fall down is colour and preparation: kits come in a few standard shades, and without proper cleaning and keying the filler often lifts.

How it works

There’s not much you need to do on the day. Let us in and show us the room, and we will get on with it. The job generally runs to the best part of a day, tidy-up included.

  1. The room is masked, protected and ventilated.
  2. Next we degrease the bath and fix chips and rust spots.
  3. The surface is prepared and a bonding primer applied.
  4. We spray on the new enamel finish in several coats.
  5. We leave it to cure, and it’s generally ready the following day.

Preparing for the visit

Advice

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Roll-top and period baths

Freestanding roll-tops can be done inside and out, with the outside refinished as well.

Pressed steel

Steel baths and trays have a thin metal body under the enamel. Exposed steel rusts quickly, so we treat and seal the metal before filling.

Repair or replace: which is better?

When the bathroom is fine apart from the bath’s finish, re-enamelling is the least disruptive fix. Tiles, panels and taps stay put. Prices start from £350. Our prices are the same across the UK, so there is no premium for North Shields. What changes the price is the job itself: how much damage, what it’s made of and how many items.

What we can’t put right

A repair isn’t always the answer, and we’ll tell you before we start. Repairs won’t solve:

  • An acrylic bath that flexes badly underfoot
  • Leaking taps or wastes (a plumber’s job)
  • A bath split right through the body

If in doubt, send pictures and we will say what we think before booking.
