Questions from Cullercoats

Is repairing better than replacing?

Generally, if the item is otherwise sound. Repairing avoids the cost and disruption of replacing. If replacing would be better, we’ll say so.

Do I have to be there?

Yes. The technician needs access to the room for the visit, at a time we agree with you.

Someone resurfaced my bath and it’s peeling. Can you help?

Usually, yes. The old coating comes off before we resurface it. Tell us about it when you ask for a quote.

Can you resurface a pink bath in white?

Yes. We can resurface a coloured bath in white, and the basin and toilet can be done too.

Will the price change on the day?

The price is fixed for what the pictures show. If there’s more, we’ll tell you before starting.

What areas do you cover?

The whole UK, including all of North Tyneside. Just include your postcode and we will offer you dates.

What information do you need?

Photos of the damage, a photo of the entire bath and your postcode. After that, we just agree a date.

What happens after I send pictures?

We review the pictures and send a fixed quote with dates.

Bath re-enamelling at your home in Cullercoats

Re-enamelling gives a worn bath a new glossy surface without taking anything out. It’s the answer when the entire bath is tired rather than one spot. Our repair technicians work on basins & shower trays, cast iron baths and acrylic baths, and common reasons people contact us are brown or grey marks that don’t clean off and a dull, rough surface that won’t come clean.

Whatever the size of the job, it’s backed by a one-year guarantee in Cullercoats and across North Tyneside.

Should I try a DIY kit first?

DIY kits are sold for most surfaces, and they can make a small mark look better. Where they fall down is colour and preparation: they come in a handful of shades, and if the surface isn’t prepared the repair won’t last.

If you’ve already tried a DIY fix, that’s fine. We remove the old filler and start again, so it won’t stop us repairing it. It does add a little time, so tell us about it when you send photos.

What happens on the day

Nothing needs to be moved out of the room beforehand. Everything we use comes in the van with us, lay protective sheets and start once you’re happy with the plan. Most jobs take most of the day, and you can get on with other things while we’re there.

  1. We check the bath and agree the finish with you.
  2. Taps, tiles and the floor are masked off.
  3. We degrease the bath, fix any damage and key the surface.
  4. We apply the primer and then the finish coats.
  5. We remove the masking, tidy up and give you the curing time.

Before we arrive

  • Make sure the area is dry
  • Clear the area around the damage
  • Keep children and pets away from the room on the day

What affects the price in Cullercoats

Resurfacing from £350. Each job gets its own fixed price. This is what makes a difference:

  • Where the damage is and how we get to it
  • The material and finish
  • Whether old repairs or coatings need taking off
  • How much damage there is

Every job is a little different, so each one is priced on its own. What’s damaged, how badly and how easy it is to reach all play a part, and doing several things on one visit costs less than separate visits.

Quotes from your pictures

When you take your pictures, these tips help us give you a firm price:

  • Something in shot to show the size
  • Natural light rather than flash
  • One sharp close-up of the damage
  • One picture of the whole bath

You do not need a survey visit. Nearly every job can be priced from pictures: we need a close-up, a wider picture and your postcode, and we’ll reply with a fixed quote.

Repairs by material

Pressed steel

Under the enamel of a steel bath is thin metal. Exposed steel rusts quickly, so we treat and seal the metal before filling.

Roll-top and period baths

We can resurface a roll-top inside and out, and the outside can be refinished too.

Aftercare tips

Aftercare is simple, and it makes a real difference:

  • Do not leave bottles, razors or sponges standing on the surface
  • Stick to gentle, non-abrasive cleaners
  • A quick wipe after use keeps limescale away
  • Have chips seen to early

Avoid hair dye, bath bombs and oils sitting on the surface, because they can mark the finish. Repair dripping taps promptly.

If a previous coating is starting to peel, do not pick at it. Water gets under it and the damage spreads, so it’s better to have it stripped and redone.

Repairing versus replacing in Cullercoats

Replacing the bath means a plumber, lifting out the old bath, re-tiling or making good the walls and days without a bathroom. Resurfacing gives the bath a new finish without moving it. Our bath re-enamelling starts from £350. Set against the cost of replacement, repairing typically costs far less, because there is no removal, plumbing or making good. The quote lists exactly what you’re paying for.
