How the visit works
The work is clean and fairly quiet. Protection goes down first, then the job itself takes most of the day. Before we leave, we explain how soon it can be used and how to care for it.
- The room is masked, protected and ventilated.
- Next we degrease the bath and fix chips and rust spots.
- We prepare the surface and apply a bonding primer.
- We spray several coats of new enamel finish.
- The bath is left to cure and can typically be used the day after.
Preparing for the visit
- Open a window if you can
- Mention any earlier repairs or resurfacing
- Make sure the area is dry

Bath re-enamelling in Park Wood, done in place
Many of the baths we re-enamel are period roll-tops, which would be difficult and expensive to replace. Doing them in place keeps an original feature. We regularly repair acrylic baths, pressed steel baths and basins & shower trays, and people most frequently call us about lots of chips and rust spots and an outdated colour you’d like to change.
The work is guaranteed for twelve months. If something isn’t right in that time, we come back and put it right.

Materials and what they mean for the repair
Acrylic
Acrylic feels warm and is light, but it relies on good support. Repairs to cracks are reinforced from the back.
Cast iron
Re-enamelling suits cast iron baths perfectly. They’re built to last, and only the surface wears, so resurfacing gives them a new life.
What bath re-enamelling costs
Resurfacing from £350. You won’t pay by the hour. The price is based on:
- How many items we do on one visit
- How easy the damage is to reach
- The colour and finish to match
- How much damage there is
A few things move the price: access, material, the extent of the damage and whether we can do several items together. Send photos and you’ll get a fixed figure.

When we’d advise against a repair
A few problems are outside what a surface repair can do:
- Plumbing leaks, which need a plumber
- Damage hidden under a previous coating, until it’s stripped back
- Acrylic that moves when you stand in it
If in doubt, send photos and we’ll say what we think before booking.

Repair or replace: which is better?
Replacement only makes sense in a few cases: if the bath is cracked through, if you want a different size or shape, or if you’re refitting the whole room anyway. Otherwise, resurfacing normally wins. Prices start from £350. The price reflects the work involved, not your postcode. You’ll see the full price before booking.

DIY repairs versus a professional job
You can buy a DIY kit for most repairs, and they can tidy up a tiny mark. The trouble is colour and preparation: kits come in a few standard shades, and without proper cleaning and keying the filler frequently lifts.
If you do try a kit, read the instructions carefully, make sure the area is clean and completely dry, and give it the full curing time. If it does not work out, we can still repair it properly.

Common questions in Park Wood
Someone resurfaced my bath and it’s peeling. Can you help?
Typically, yes. We strip the failing coating and resurface it properly. Tell us about it when you ask for a quote.
Will the new finish last?
Look after it and it lasts. Avoid abrasive cleaners and suction mats.
Can you do more than one item on the same visit?
Yes. Combining jobs on one visit brings the cost down. Include pictures of each item.
Does re-enamelling smell?
There is some smell while the coating is applied, which is why we ventilate the bathroom. It clears as the finish cures.
How long will the bath be out of use?
Generally one day, with the bath ready the following day. Deeply pitted baths may need a second day.
Are you accredited?
We are accredited with CHAS, Constructionline, SafeContractor, SMAS Worksafe and Builder’s Profile.
What does bath re-enamelling cost?
Prices start from £350. We give a fixed price based on pictures of the damage. Send a close-up of the damage and a wider photo and your postcode.
Is repairing better than replacing?
Typically, if the item is otherwise sound. A repair avoids removal and making good. We will tell you honestly if replacement makes more sense.
How to look after the repair
Once the work has cured, treat it gently:
- A quick wipe after use keeps limescale away
- Fix dripping taps quickly
- Keep toiletries on a shelf rather than in the bath
- Avoid suction-cup mats
Wipe the bath dry after use where you can, especially in hard water areas, and rinse away any product left on the surface.
Leave a peeling coating alone. Moisture gets underneath and makes it worse, so have it stripped and resurfaced.
