Bath re-enamelling near Portsmouth

Bath re-enamelling in Portsmouth without replacing anything

Most baths are re-enamelled in a day, with the bath ready to use the following day. Nothing is disconnected or removed. We are frequently asked to fix enamel that’s lost its shine and feels rough and brown or grey marks that don’t clean off, in acrylic baths, pressed steel baths and basins & shower trays.

You are covered after we leave: each job carries a one-year guarantee, and we explain what it covers before booking.

For landlords and businesses

For developers and builders, we fix damage before handover, saving last-minute replacements. Several plots can be done in one visit to keep costs down.

We carry out planned and one-off repairs for housing associations and facilities teams. A repair avoids taking out and refitting, which matters when someone is living in the home.

Common problems we fix in Portsmouth

Hard water speeds up the wear, and abrasive cleaners do the most damage.

Get in touch if you’ve noticed:

  • A period or roll-top bath worth keeping
  • Chips and rust in more than one place
  • A coating lifting around the plughole
  • Staining under the taps and around the waste

Choosing a repair company

DIY repairs versus a professional job

Kits are cheap and easy to find, but many of the jobs we do start with putting right a DIY repair. Doing it properly first is generally the cheaper route.

A DIY attempt isn’t a disaster. We take the old repair out and do it properly, so it will not stop us repairing it. Just mention it when you send photos, as it can add time.

Common questions in Portsmouth

Does re-enamelling smell?

Some odour is normal while we spray, so we ventilate the room. It clears as the finish cures.

Can you resurface a pink bath in white?

Yes, most people go for white. Tell us what you’d like when you ask for a quote.

Is it worth repairing rather than replacing?

Generally, yes. Replacement brings removal, refitting and making good, which a repair avoids. We will be honest if it’s not worth it.

Are you accredited?

Yes, including CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor. The full list is on our accreditations page.

Can a failed resurfacing be redone?

Yes. Stripping the old coating adds time, so it’s reflected in the quote.

What happens if you find more damage?

It’s rare, but if it happens we talk to you first. You decide whether to go ahead.

Do you charge for travel?

There’s no separate call-out charge. The fixed price covers the visit and the work.

What happens after I send pictures?

We look at the photos and reply with a fixed price and some dates. If we need another angle, we’ll ask.

What happens on the day

The work is clean and fairly quiet. We protect the area first, then the job itself takes most of the day. At the end we talk you through how soon it can be used and how to care for it.

  1. First we protect the bathroom and set up ventilation.
  2. We clean and degrease the bath and repair any chips or rust.
  3. We prepare the surface and apply a bonding primer.
  4. We spray on the new enamel finish in several coats.
  5. Once cured, normally by the day after, the bath is ready.

Prices and what affects them

Resurfacing from £350. Each job gets its own fixed quote. These are the things that affect it:

  • How many items we do on one visit
  • The material and finish
  • The size and number of damaged areas
  • The type of damage

The price reflects the work involved, not where you live. You’ll see the full price before you book, with no extras added later.

Getting a price from photos

It only takes a minute to photograph the damage. Try to send:

  • Whether it’s been repaired or coated before
  • Your postcode, so we can check dates
  • A coin beside the damage so we can judge size
  • One sharp close-up of the damage

The quickest way to a price is to send two or three photos using our quote form or ring us. We’ll tell you honestly if a repair is the right fix.

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Pressed steel

Under the enamel of a steel bath is thin metal. Once a chip exposes it, rust follows quickly, so the metal is treated and sealed before the repair.

Roll-top and period baths

Freestanding roll-tops can be done inside and out, with the outside refinished as well.

Repairing versus replacing in Portsmouth

If you like your bathroom but not your bath’s surface, re-enamelling is the least disruptive fix. Tiles, panels and taps stay put. Our bath re-enamelling starts from £350. It helps to know what pushes a price up or down: the amount of damage, the material, access to the area, and how many jobs we do in one trip. Send photos and you’ll get a fixed figure.

How to look after the repair

After the repair has cured, a few habits help it last:

  • Avoid suction-cup mats
  • Do not use the bath until it has fully cured
  • Clean with a soft cloth and mild detergent
  • Don’t let dyes or oils sit on the finish

Wait for the curing time we give you before the first bath. Then, gentle cleaning with a soft cloth is enough.

If a previous coating is starting to peel, don’t pick at it. Moisture gets underneath and makes it worse, so have it stripped and resurfaced.
