Trusted bath re-enamelling in Portswood

Why repair rather than replace?

A new bath means a plumber, lifting out the old bath, re-tiling or making good the walls and days without a bathroom. Re-enamelling gives the bath a new finish without moving it. Resurfacing from £350, with every job priced individually. It helps to know what pushes a price up or down: access, material, the extent of the damage and whether we can do several items together. Photos let us give you a fixed figure.

After cleaning, repairing and priming, we spray on the new finish. Most of the work, and most of the durability, is in the preparation, so we don’t cut corners on it. Whether it’s a coloured bath you want in white and a bath that stays dull however much you clean it, we can help, on cast iron baths, basins & shower trays and pressed steel baths alike.

All of our repairs are guaranteed for twelve months in Portswood and everywhere else. If something goes wrong with the work, we come back.

For landlords and businesses

Housing associations and facilities teams use us for planned and reactive repairs. A repair avoids taking out and refitting, which matters when someone is living in the home.

For anyone letting property in or around Portswood, we will quote for several properties at once. Just send photos for each address and we will price them together.

Prices and what affects them

Resurfacing from £350. You won’t pay by the hour. The price depends on:

  • Access to the area
  • Whether we combine several jobs
  • Previous DIY repairs that have to come out
  • Whether it’s a chip, crack, burn or wear

The price depends on the type and amount of damage, what it’s made of and how many items we do on one visit. You get a fixed price from your pictures, so you know the cost before booking.

Send pictures for a quote

A couple of clear pictures is all it takes. It helps if you send:

  • Your postcode, so we can check dates
  • Natural light rather than flash
  • A photo taken from further back
  • One sharp close-up of the damage

Email us pictures of the damage and a wider shot of the entire item, with your SO17 postcode, and we will reply with a fixed quote.

How it works

Visits start with a quick look at the job together. Then the area is sheeted and masked and we start. Allow the best part of a day, and we’ll tell you if anything changes.

  1. We sheet, mask and ventilate the room.
  2. Old sealant is cut out and the bath is deep cleaned.
  3. Chips, rust and pitting are repaired.
  4. The surface is keyed and primed for the new finish.
  5. The new finish is sprayed on in several coats and left to cure until the day after.

Preparing for the visit

  • Let the surface dry out before the visit
  • Keep children and pets away from the room on the day
  • Let us know which floor the room is on

Getting a price

Pricing is simple: snap the damage close up and then the entire item, send them to us with your postcode, and we will reply with a fixed quote. There’s no charge for the quote and no obligation.

What we can’t put right

Honesty matters more than a booking, so here’s what a repair can’t fix:

  • Plumbing leaks, which need a plumber
  • Steel that has corroded right through
  • Damage hidden under a previous coating, until it’s stripped back

Not sure? Send pictures and we’ll give you a straight answer.

Questions from Portswood

Does someone need to be in?

We need someone to let us in. You don’t need to watch us work.

Do you work in Portswood?

Yes. We cover the whole UK and travel to Portswood. Send pictures and we will quote, or call 0345 017 0787.

Can you make a coloured bath white?

Yes. Coloured baths can be resurfaced in white, and the basin and toilet can be done too.

Is my repair covered?

All our work carries our one-year guarantee. We will explain what it covers when we quote.

Will you leave a mess?

Dust sheets and masking go down before we start, and we clean up when we have finished.

Will there be a smell?

There can be some smell while we work. It clears as the materials cure.

Can you repair several things at once?

Yes. Combining jobs on one visit brings the cost down. Send pictures of everything you’d like done.

Generally, yes. Replacement brings removal, refitting and making good, which a repair avoids. If it isn’t worth repairing, we’ll tell you.

Signs you need bath re-enamelling in Portswood

Previous coatings can fail too, lifting by the plughole or blistering. Failing coatings are stripped back before we resurface.

Keep an eye out for any of the following:

  • A coating lifting around the plughole
  • An original cast iron bath that needs restoring
  • An outdated colour you’d like to change
  • Stains that won’t shift

Before you book anyone

  • How soon you can use it again
  • Whether a trained technician does the job
  • How your room will be protected
  • What prep work is covered

What your bath is made of matters

Roll-top and period baths

We can resurface a roll-top inside and out, with the outside refinished as well.

Pressed steel

Under the enamel of a steel bath is thin metal. Exposed steel rusts quickly, so the metal is treated and sealed before the repair.

Keeping it looking good

How the surface is treated afterwards matters:

  • Respect the curing time we give you
  • Repair dripping taps early
  • Do not leave a chip unrepaired
  • Keep toiletries on a shelf rather than in the bath

Use mild, non-abrasive cleaners, avoid suction bath mats, and do not leave bottles or razors standing on the surface.

If a previous coating is starting to peel, do not pick at it. Moisture gets underneath and makes it worse, so it’s better to have it stripped and redone.
