Bath re-enamelling in Bitterne Park, done in place

Many of the baths we re-enamel are period roll-tops, which are heavy, hard to move and costly to replace. Doing them in place keeps an original feature. Whether it’s stains that won’t shift and chips and rust in more than one place, we can typically put it right, on cast iron baths, acrylic baths and Victorian roll-tops alike.

Every job is backed for twelve months. We return to put right any problem with the work.

Signs you need bath re-enamelling in Bitterne Park

Once enamel loses its gloss, it stains more easily, and scrubbing it wears it down further. That is the point where re-enamelling makes sense.

The most common problems we are called about are:

  • A coloured bath you want in white
  • An old resurfacing that’s failing
  • A dull, rough surface that will not come clean
  • A roll-top that is seen better days

What to look for in a quote

  • Whether there are any call-out or travel charges
  • How the room is protected while they work
  • Whether they match the colour on site
  • What happens if they find more damage

Honest limits

It helps to know what we can’t do too:

  • An acrylic bath that flexes badly underfoot
  • Problems we can’t see until an old finish comes off
  • A bath split right through the body

If in doubt, send pictures and we will say what we think before you book.

What we work on

Bitterne Park questions

Can you repair several things at once?

Yes. Combining jobs on one visit brings the cost down. Include pictures of each item.

Is there a guarantee?

Every repair comes with a one-year guarantee. Ask us what it covers when you get your quote.

How long does re-enamelling last?

A well-prepared finish lasts a long time if it’s looked after. Gentle cleaning, no suction mats.

Can you change the colour of my bath?

Yes, most people go for white. Mention the colour you want when you send pictures.

Someone resurfaced my bath and it’s peeling. Can you help?

Yes. Stripping the old coating adds time, so it’s reflected in the quote.

Can you quote from pictures?

In nearly every case. We only ask to see it in person if the photos cannot show what we need.

Do you resurface freestanding baths?

Yes, roll-tops are a big part of our work. We resurface the inside, and the outside can be refinished too.

Will the bath be moved?

No, it stays where it is. Everything is done in your bathroom, with the room protected and ventilated.

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Roll-top and period baths

We can resurface a roll-top inside and out, with the outside refinished as well.

Pressed steel

Under the enamel of a steel bath is thin metal. Exposed steel rusts quickly, so the metal is treated and sealed before the repair.

Should I try a DIY kit first?

It’s tempting to reach for a kit, but many of the jobs we do start with putting right a DIY repair. Doing it properly first is normally the cheaper route.

If you’ve already tried a DIY fix, that is fine. We remove the old filler and start again, so it does not stop a professional repair. Just mention it when you send photos, as it can add time.

Work for landlords and builders

Landlords, letting agents and housing providers in Bitterne Park use us as well as householders. Repairing between tenancies keeps void periods short, and it typically costs far less than a refit.

For anyone letting property in or around Bitterne Park, we’ll quote for several properties at once. Just send photos for each address and we’ll come back with a combined price.

How the visit works

On the day itself, there is little for you to do. Show us the job, point us to the room, and we’ll get on with it. Most visits take a full day, including clearing up.

  1. We check the bath and agree the finish with you.
  2. Everything around the bath is masked and covered.
  3. The bath is degreased, repaired and keyed.
  4. We apply the primer and then the finish coats.
  5. We remove the masking, tidy up and give you the curing time.

Preparing for the visit

  • Move bottles, mats and clutter away from the area
  • Mention if the room is upstairs or in a flat
  • Let us know about parking or access

Getting a price

You do not need a survey visit. Nearly every job can be priced from pictures: send a close-up, a wider shot and your postcode, and we will reply with a fixed price.

Repairing versus replacing in Bitterne Park

If the bath is sound, re-enamelling is generally much cheaper than replacing it, when you count removal, plumbing, tiling and decorating. It’s much quicker too. Our bath re-enamelling starts from £350. No two jobs are quite the same, so we price each one individually. The size and type of damage, the material and access all make a difference, and combining jobs on one visit brings the cost down.

How to look after the repair

Nothing complicated is needed, just a few sensible habits:

  • Wash away dyes and oils after use
  • Do not use the bath until it has fully cured
  • Clean with a soft cloth and mild detergent
  • Do not leave a chip unrepaired

Dry the bath after use if possible, particularly with hard water, and rinse off any bath products.

If a previous coating is starting to peel, do not pick at it. Moisture gets underneath and makes it worse, so it’s better to have it stripped and redone.
