Materials and what they mean for the repair

Cast iron

A cast iron bath is heavy enough that most people never want to move it. The enamel is the part that wears or chips, and that’s what we repair.

Roll-top and period baths

Freestanding roll-tops can be done inside and out, with the outside refinished as well.

About our bath re-enamelling in Powderham

We clean, repair and prime the bath before spraying the new finish. The preparation is what makes it last, and we take our time over it. Our technicians work on Victorian roll-tops, cast iron baths and acrylic baths, and people most frequently call us about staining under the taps and around the waste and lots of chips and rust spots.

Every repair is covered by a one-year guarantee, wherever you are in Devon.

DIY repairs versus a professional job

If you’ve already tried a DIY fix, that’s fine. We take the old repair out and do it properly, so it won’t stop us repairing it. Just mention it when you send pictures, as it can add time.

What a professional repair adds is preparation, colour matching and finishing. We prepare the area properly, mix the colour on site and polish the finish to match, and the work is guaranteed.

Landlords, agents and businesses in Powderham

We are used to working with agents and managing companies. Just send pictures, the address and how to get access.

Rental properties take more wear, and replacing items every time a tenant leaves is expensive. Repairing between tenants keeps the property presentable for less.

What a repair cannot fix

A few problems are outside what a surface repair can do:

  • Problems we cannot see until an old finish comes off
  • A bath split right through the body
  • A poorly supported acrylic bath, until it’s firmed up

Send us pictures and we’ll tell you honestly before you book.

Surfaces we repair

  • Pressed steel baths
  • Acrylic baths
  • Cast iron baths
  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Basins & shower trays

Powderham questions

What happens once I’ve sent photos?

We review the photos and send a fixed quote.

Is there any odour?

There can be some smell while we work, which is why we ventilate. It clears as the materials cure.

Is there a guarantee?

Every repair comes with our one-year guarantee. We will explain what it covers when we quote.

I’m a tenant. Can you help?

We’re happy to deal with the tenant, landlord or agent. Get your landlord’s agreement first.

Do I have to be there?

Yes. We need access to the room while we work, at a time that suits you.

Is there a smell?

Yes, while we are applying the finish. We set up ventilation and the smell fades as it cures.

How long is the bath unusable?

One day for most baths, ready the next day. We will confirm timings when we quote.

Will the bath be moved?

No. We resurface it in place, so nothing else is disturbed.

What affects the price in Powderham

Resurfacing from £350. You won’t pay by the hour. The price is based on:

  • The colour and finish to match
  • The material and finish
  • The type of damage
  • Doing more than one item at once

We charge the same wherever you are, so there’s no premium for Powderham. What changes the price is the job itself: how much damage, what it’s made of and how many items.

Quotes from your pictures

A couple of clear pictures is all it takes. Try to include:

  • Where you are, by postcode
  • A wider photo showing the whole bath
  • The material, if you know it
  • One sharp close-up of the damage

No survey visit is needed: we price from pictures. Use the quote form, or ring 0345 017 0787 to talk it through, and you will get a fixed figure back.

Repair or replace: which is better?

Replacing a cast iron bath is a big job: they’re heavy, frequently need breaking up, and a new one isn’t cheap. Resurfacing in place avoids that entirely. Our bath re-enamelling starts from £350. Compared with replacing, repairing generally costs far less, because nothing has to be taken out, refitted or made good. Your fixed quote shows exactly what’s included.

Why us?

Looking after it afterwards

Simple care helps the repair last. We recommend:

  • Fix dripping taps quickly
  • Dry the bath after use to stop limescale
  • Use washing-up liquid and a soft cloth
  • Don’t leave a chip unrepaired

The first few days matter most: let it cure fully, then use mild cleaners only. From then on, avoid abrasives and suction mats.

If a previous coating is starting to peel, do not pick at it. Moisture gets underneath and makes it worse, so have it stripped and resurfaced.

What we do, step by step

You don’t need to empty the room beforehand. We bring everything we need with us, put protection down and start once you are happy with the plan. It usually takes most of the day, and you can get on with other things while we’re there.

  1. We mask and protect the room and ventilate it.
  2. We clean and degrease the bath and repair any chips or rust.
  3. We prepare the surface and apply a bonding primer.
  4. We spray on the new enamel finish in several coats.
  5. The bath is left to cure and can generally be used the next day.

How to prepare

  • Keep a parking space free if you can
  • Let us know about parking or access
  • Move bottles, mats and clutter away from the area
