About our bath re-enamelling in Rackham

A re-enamelled bath looks and feels like a new one, without any of the disruption of replacing it. It’s ideal if you like your bathroom but not the state of the bath. We work on basins & shower trays, cast iron baths and Victorian roll-tops, and people most often call us about a bath that stays dull however much you clean it and a peeling or bubbling previous coating.

Every job is backed for twelve months. We return to put right any problem with the work.

When we’d advise against a repair

A few problems are outside what a surface repair can do:

  • Acrylic that moves when you stand in it
  • Leaks from fittings rather than the bath
  • Steel that has corroded right through

Send us pictures and we will tell you honestly before you book.

Surfaces we repair

  • Cast iron baths
  • Acrylic baths
  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Basins & shower trays
  • Pressed steel baths

Can I fix it myself?

A kit can be fine for a tiny mark out of sight. For anything you look at every day, anything that has rusted, cracked or holed, or anything on a coloured surface, a professional repair is worth it.

If you do try a kit, read the instructions carefully, and don’t use it until it has fully cured. If it doesn’t work out, we can still repair it properly.

What happens on the day

We work cleanly and quietly, so you can carry on at home. Protection goes down first, then the work takes a full day. At the end we talk you through the curing time and the aftercare.

  1. First we protect the bathroom and set up ventilation.
  2. We clean and degrease the bath and repair any chips or rust.
  3. We key the surface and put on a bonding primer.
  4. We spray several coats of new enamel finish.
  5. We leave it to cure, and it’s normally ready the day after.

Before we arrive

  • Avoid using the area for a few hours before we arrive
  • Clear toiletries, mats and anything else from around the area
  • Have somewhere for us to park nearby if possible

How to get a price

A quote takes minutes to ask for: take one close-up and one wider shot of the bath, add your postcode and send them over. You’ll get a fixed quote, not an estimate.

Repair or replace: which is better?

A replacement often means several trades over several days. Re-enamelling is one technician, usually one day, with the bath back in use the following day. Resurfacing from £350, with every job priced individually. Instead of hourly rates, we fix the price before we start. Damage, material and access decide it.

Different materials, different repairs

Acrylic

Acrylic is light and warm to the touch, but it relies on good support. Repairs to cracks are reinforced from the back.

Cast iron

A cast iron bath is heavy enough that most people never want to move it. Only the enamel surface wears or chips, and that’s the part we put right.

Signs you need bath re-enamelling in Rackham

In hard water areas, limescale and the cleaning it needs wear enamel faster, and abrasive cleaners do the most damage.

Most people get in touch when they notice something like this:

  • Staining under the taps and around the waste
  • A coloured bath you want in white
  • Lots of chips and rust spots
  • A peeling or bubbling previous coating

How to compare quotes

Looking after it afterwards

It’s all simple stuff, just a few sensible habits:

  • Never use suction bath mats
  • Have chips seen to early
  • Dry the bath after use to stop limescale
  • Use washing-up liquid and a soft cloth

The first few days matter most: give it the full curing time, then clean it gently. From then on, avoid abrasives and suction mats.

If a previous coating is starting to peel, don’t pick at it. Water gets under it and the damage spreads, so have it stripped and resurfaced.
