Bath re-enamelling near Ranmoor

Bath re-enamelling at your home in Ranmoor

We do not move the bath, so your taps, tiles and plumbing are left alone. It generally takes one visit, and can be used again the following day. Typical jobs include staining under the taps and around the waste and a period or roll-top bath worth keeping, in basins & shower trays, acrylic baths and pressed steel baths.

You are covered after we leave: each job carries a one-year guarantee, and we explain what it covers before you book.

Ranmoor: your questions answered

Can pets and children be at home?

Just keep them out of the work area. We’ll tell you when the room can be used again.

Does someone need to be in?

Yes. We need access to the room while we work, at a time we agree with you.

What do you need from me?

A close-up, a wider photo and your postcode. After that, we just agree a date.

Can you do more than one item on the same visit?

Of course, and it usually saves money. Just add the extra items to your photos and you will get one combined price.

Do you resurface freestanding baths?

Yes. We can do the inside and outside.

Will there be fumes?

A little, during the work. Ventilation keeps it down, and it fades as the finish cures.

What does bath re-enamelling cost?

Prices start from £350. We give a fixed price from your pictures. Send a close-up of the damage and a wider photo and your postcode.

Can you resurface a pink bath in white?

Yes, most people go for white. Mention the colour you want when you send photos.

How to look after the repair

Most damage we see is avoidable. These habits help:

  • Clean with a soft cloth and mild detergent
  • A quick wipe after use keeps limescale away
  • Keep suction mats out of the bath
  • Get any chip repaired quickly

Give the finish its full curing time before using the bath. Then, gentle cleaning with a soft cloth is enough.

Avoid scrubbing a dull bath with abrasive cleaners. It just wears the enamel further and makes resurfacing more work.

Can I fix it myself?

DIY kits are sold for most surfaces, and they can tidy up a tiny mark. The trouble is colour and preparation: they come in a handful of shades, and if the surface is not prepared the repair will not last.

For a hairline mark somewhere you will never see, a kit may be enough. For damage in plain view, cracks, holes or rust, or coloured finishes, it’s worth having it done properly.

How the visit works

Visits start with a quick look at the job together, so you know exactly what we’re doing. Next, we cover and mask everything nearby and we start. It normally takes the best part of a day, and we’ll keep you posted as we go.

  1. We check the bath and agree the finish with you.
  2. Everything around the bath is masked and covered.
  3. We degrease the bath, fix any damage and key the surface.
  4. Primer and finish coats are applied.
  5. The masking comes off, we tidy up and tell you when it can be used.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Mention any earlier repairs or resurfacing
  • Clear the area around the damage
  • Have somewhere for us to park nearby if possible

Work for landlords and builders

We also carry out snagging repairs for builders and developers, fixing chips and scratches before handover so nothing needs replacing. We hold CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor accreditations.

For developers and builders, we fix damage before handover, so there is no need to replace a damaged item at the last minute. Several plots can be done in one visit.

When to call us in Ranmoor

The gloss on enamel is thin, and abrasive cleaning slowly wears it away. After years of use, the surface becomes porous and stains easily.

Keep an eye out for any of the following:

  • A bath in a colour that no longer suits
  • An original cast iron bath that needs restoring
  • Stains that will not shift
  • An old resurfacing that is failing

What your quote should include

  • Whether the price is fixed and includes VAT
  • When it can be used again
  • Whether a trained technician does the job
  • What happens if the damage is worse than the pictures show

How to compare quotes

Why repair rather than replace?

Replacement only makes sense in a few cases: a cracked-through bath, a change of size or shape, or a full refit. Otherwise, resurfacing generally wins. Resurfacing from £350, with every job priced individually. Every job is a little different, so we price each one individually. What’s damaged, how badly and how easy it is to reach all make a difference, and combining jobs on one visit brings the cost down.

Different materials, different repairs

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are so heavy that repairing in place makes obvious sense. Only the enamel surface wears or chips, and that’s what we repair.

Pressed steel

Steel baths and trays have a thin metal body under the enamel. Exposed steel rusts quickly, so we treat and seal the metal before filling.

When we would advise against a repair

We will always be straight with you, so here’s what a repair can’t fix:

  • Steel that has corroded right through
  • Damage hidden under a previous coating, until it’s stripped back
  • A cast iron or steel bath that’s cracked right through

Send us pictures and we will tell you honestly.
