Bath re-enamelling for Rubery homes

About our bath re-enamelling in Rubery

We resurface cast iron, steel and acrylic baths, including roll-tops and period baths. Several coats of finish go on over a bonding primer, after the bath has been cleaned, repaired and keyed. Whether it’s chips and rust in more than one place and a bath that stays dull however much you clean it, we can usually put it right, on pressed steel baths, cast iron baths and basins & shower trays alike.

Every job is backed for twelve months in Rubery and everywhere else. If something goes wrong with the work, we come back.

Repair or replace in Rubery?

A new bath means a plumber, removing a heavy bath, re-tiling or making good the walls and several days without a working bathroom. Resurfacing renews the whole surface with the bath left where it is. Prices start from £350. The price reflects the work involved, not your postcode. You’ll see the full price before you book, with no extras added later.

Why book with us

  • Nothing taken out or refitted
  • A fixed quote before you book
  • Typically one visit, start to finish
  • Every repair guaranteed for a year

Take a look at our pricing or guide to resurfacing and replacement costs.

Looking after it afterwards

So the finish stays in good condition for years:

  • Do not let dyes or oils sit on the finish
  • Respect the curing time we give you
  • Clean with a soft cloth and mild detergent
  • Store bottles off the bath

Treat the new finish gently at first: let it cure fully, then use mild cleaners only. From then on, avoid abrasives and suction mats.

Don’t try to scrub a worn bath back to shine. It removes more of the surface and makes resurfacing more work.

How it works

Your technician turns up at the time we agreed with you, introduces themselves and checks the damage against your pictures first. Dust sheets and masking tape go down before we open a single tin. Most visits take a full day, and the room is left clean and tidy.

  1. First we look the bath over and confirm the finish.
  2. Everything around the bath is masked and covered.
  3. We degrease the bath, fix any damage and key the surface.
  4. We apply the primer and then the finish coats.
  5. The masking comes off, we tidy up and tell you when it can be used.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Have somewhere for us to park nearby if possible
  • Let us know about parking or access
  • Make sure the area is dry

What a repair can’t fix

We would rather lose a job than do one that won’t last, so these are the limits:

  • Leaks from fittings rather than the bath
  • An acrylic bath that flexes badly underfoot
  • A cast iron or steel bath that is cracked right through

Not sure? Send pictures and we’ll give you a straight answer before booking.

Materials we repair

  • Basins & shower trays
  • Acrylic baths
  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Cast iron baths
  • Pressed steel baths

Rubery: your questions answered

Is it worth repairing rather than replacing?

Typically, if the item is otherwise sound. Repairing avoids the cost and disruption of replacing. If replacing would be better, we’ll say so.

Will there be a smell?

There may be a mild smell during the work, which fades afterwards.

I’m a tenant. Can you help?

Yes. Check with your landlord; we can send the quote to them too.

Can you quote from photos?

Usually, yes. A close-up and a wider photo are enough to give a fixed quote.

How long does re-enamelling take?

Typically one day, with the bath ready the next day. A badly pitted bath can need a second day.

Do you do work for letting agents?

Yes. We work for landlords, agents, builders and businesses as well as householders across Birmingham.

Are you accredited?

We’re accredited with CHAS, Constructionline, SafeContractor, SMAS Worksafe and Builder’s Profile.

Will it make a mess?

Dust sheets and masking go down before we start, and tidy up before we leave.

DIY repairs versus a professional job

For a hairline mark somewhere you’ll never see, a kit may be enough. For anything you look at every day, anything that has rusted, cracked or holed, or anything on a coloured surface, a professional repair is worth it.

It’s tempting to reach for a kit, but many of the jobs we do start with putting right a DIY repair. Doing it properly first is usually the cheaper route.

How we price bath re-enamelling

Prices start from £350. We give every job a fixed quote from pictures. This is what makes a difference:

  • Access to the area
  • How many items we do on one visit
  • The material and finish
  • How much damage there is

Set against the cost of replacement, a repair is generally a fraction of the price, because there is no removal, plumbing or making good. Your fixed quote shows exactly what’s included.

Getting a price from photos

It only takes a minute to photograph the damage. Try to send:

  • Any details about the material
  • Your postcode, so we can check dates
  • Any earlier repairs or coatings
  • A clear, close picture of the problem area

Getting a price is easy: take a close-up of the damage and a picture from further back, send them over with your postcode, and we will reply with a fixed price. There is no charge for the quote and no obligation.

For landlords and businesses

Landlords, letting agents and housing providers in Rubery use us as well as householders. A repair between tenants keeps the property empty for less time, and it typically costs far less than a refit.

Rented homes see more wear and tear, and replacing items every time a tenant leaves is expensive. Repairing between tenants keeps the property presentable for less.

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Roll-top and period baths

Freestanding roll-tops can be done inside and out, with the outside refinished as well.

Acrylic

Acrylic is light and warm to the touch, but it needs firm support underneath. Cracks are strengthened from behind before the front is finished.
