Bath re-enamelling in Sandend

Bath re-enamelling in Sandend, done in place

Re-enamelling works especially well on cast iron and steel, and acrylic baths can be resurfaced too. You end up with a smooth, glossy surface. Our technicians work on acrylic baths, Victorian roll-tops and basins & shower trays, and the jobs we see most are an outdated colour you’d like to change and brown or grey marks that don’t clean off.

The work is covered for a year after we finish. If anything isn’t right, ring us and we will sort it.

Can I fix it myself?

DIY kits are sold for most surfaces, and they can tidy up a tiny mark. The trouble is colour and preparation: they come in a handful of shades, and if the surface isn’t prepared the repair will not last.

For a hairline mark somewhere you’ll never see, a kit may be enough. For damage in plain view, cracks, holes or rust, or coloured finishes, it’s worth having it done properly.

What we do, step by step

You do not need to empty the room. Everything we use comes in the van with us, lay protective sheets and start once you’re happy with the plan. Most jobs take the best part of a day, and you are welcome to carry on with your day while we work.

  1. We sheet, mask and ventilate the room.
  2. We remove the old silicone and deep clean the bath.
  3. Chips, rust and pitting are repaired.
  4. We key the bath and apply a bonding primer.
  5. Several coats of finish are sprayed on, then it cures until the following day.

Should you replace it?

Replacing the bath means a plumber, lifting out the old bath, re-tiling or making good the walls and several days without a working bathroom. Resurfacing gives the bath a new finish with the bath left where it is. Our bath re-enamelling starts from £350. The price reflects the work involved, not your postcode. The full price is agreed before you book, with no extras added later.

What we’re called out for in Sandend

Enamel doesn’t fail overnight. Years of cleaning, hard water and hot baths dull the surface, typically first under the taps and around the waste.

It’s worth getting a quote if you see:

  • Lots of chips and rust spots
  • A bath that stays dull however much you clean it
  • Worn patches where water runs and sits
  • A roll-top that is seen better days

What your quote should include

  • What aftercare is recommended
  • Whether cleaning and preparation are in the price
  • How your room will be protected
  • What happens if they find more damage

How to compare quotes

Your questions about bath re-enamelling in Sandend

Is it OK to have pets in the house?

Keep pets and children away from the work area on the day.

Does re-enamelling smell?

Yes, while we’re applying the finish. We set up ventilation and the smell fades as it cures.

Can you resurface a pink bath in white?

Yes. Coloured baths can be resurfaced in white, and the basin and toilet can be done too.

Do you hold any accreditations?

We’re accredited with CHAS, Constructionline, SafeContractor, SMAS Worksafe and Builder’s Profile.

Is repairing better than replacing?

Generally, yes. Replacement brings removal, refitting and making good, which a repair avoids. If it isn’t worth repairing, we’ll tell you.

How durable is a resurfaced bath?

A well-prepared finish lasts a long time if it’s looked after. Avoid abrasive cleaners and suction mats.

Can landlords book you?

Yes. We carry out repairs for homeowners, landlords, letting agents, builders and businesses in Sandend.

How quickly can you book me in?

We will give you dates with your quote. Tell us if you need it done quickly.

How to look after the repair

So the finish stays in good condition:

  • Don’t use the bath until it has fully cured
  • Have chips seen to early
  • Wash away dyes and oils after use
  • Dry the bath after use to stop limescale

A quick rinse and wipe after use helps, particularly where water is hard, to stop limescale building up.

Don’t try to scrub a worn bath back to shine. It removes more of the surface.

Honest limits

Some jobs are not right for a repair, for example:

  • Steel that has corroded right through
  • Plumbing leaks, which need a plumber
  • Problems we cannot see until an old finish comes off

If in doubt, send pictures and we will say what we think.

Surfaces we repair

  • Acrylic baths
  • Basins & shower trays
  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Pressed steel baths
  • Cast iron baths

Landlords, agents and businesses in Sandend

We regularly work with letting and managing agents. Send the address, pictures and access details and we will handle the rest.

We regularly price jobs from inventory or check-out pictures. That means we can quote before you even visit the property, and we liaise with tenants about access if you’d like us to.

Different materials, different repairs

Roll-top and period baths

We can resurface a roll-top inside and out, with the outside refinished as well.

Pressed steel

Steel baths re-enamel well, once any rust has been treated. Rust around the waste is common on steel, so we pay close attention there.
