How we handle bath re-enamelling in Sandford Orcas

A re-enamelled bath looks and feels like a new one, without any of the disruption of replacing it. It’s ideal if you like your bathroom but not the state of the bath. We regularly repair cast iron baths, basins & shower trays and acrylic baths, and people most often call us about a dull, rough surface that won’t come clean and thin, worn enamel in places.

The work is guaranteed for twelve months. If there’s a problem with the repair within the year, we return and sort it.

What a repair can’t fix

Not everything can be repaired, and we would rather say so up front. Repairs won’t solve:

  • A bath split right through the body
  • A poorly supported acrylic bath, until it’s firmed up
  • Anything hidden under an old coating, until we remove it

If in doubt, send photos and we’ll say what we think before you book.

Materials we repair

  • Pressed steel baths
  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Cast iron baths
  • Acrylic baths
  • Basins & shower trays

What happens on the day

You don’t need to empty the room. Everything we use comes in the van with us, lay protective sheets and get going once we’ve agreed what we are doing. It generally takes a full day, and you are welcome to carry on with your day while we work.

  1. We check the bath and agree the finish with you.
  2. Everything around the bath is masked and covered.
  3. We degrease the bath, fix any damage and key the surface.
  4. Primer and finish coats are applied.
  5. We remove the masking, tidy up and give you the curing time.

Getting ready for the visit

What we’re called out for in Sandford Orcas

Once enamel loses its gloss, it stains more easily, and cleaning harder only makes it worse. That is the point where re-enamelling makes sense.

Keep an eye out for these signs:

  • A coloured bath you want in white
  • A peeling or bubbling previous coating
  • Chips and rust in more than one place
  • Staining under the taps and around the waste

Aftercare tips

So the finish stays in good condition:

  • Fix dripping taps quickly
  • Rinse off hair dye, oils and bath bombs right away
  • Never use suction bath mats
  • Don’t leave bottles, razors or sponges standing on the surface

A quick rinse and wipe after use helps, especially in hard water areas, to stop limescale building up.

The longer worn enamel is left, the rougher it gets, and any rust spreads underneath. Resurfacing sooner means less repair work first.

Repair or replace: which is better?

If you like your bathroom but not your bath’s surface, re-enamelling is the least disruptive fix. Nothing else is disturbed. Resurfacing from £350, with every job priced individually. There are no surprise extras on the day. The price we quote from your pictures is the price you pay, unless the damage turns out to be different, in which case we talk to you first.

Different materials, different repairs

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are the classic candidate for re-enamelling. The body lasts for generations; only the enamel wears, so a new finish makes them look new again.

Pressed steel

Steel baths and trays have a thin metal body under the enamel. Exposed steel rusts quickly, so we treat and seal the metal before filling.

DIY repairs versus a professional job

A DIY attempt isn’t a disaster. We take the old repair out and do it properly, so it doesn’t stop a professional repair. Just mention it when you send photos, as it can add time.

DIY kits are sold for most surfaces, and they can tidy up a tiny mark. Where they fall down is colour and preparation: kits come in a few standard shades, and without proper cleaning and keying the filler frequently lifts.

Prices and what affects them

Prices start from £350. We do not charge extra for travel to Sandford Orcas. The price depends on:

  • Unusual colours or finishes
  • What the surface is made of
  • The type of damage
  • How many areas need work

A few things move the price: the amount of damage, the material, access to the area, and how many jobs we do in one trip. Photos let us give you a fixed figure.

Send photos for a quote

When you take your photos, a few simple things make all the difference:

  • A wider photo showing the entire bath
  • Where you are, by postcode
  • Any earlier repairs or coatings
  • A clear, close picture of the problem area

For most jobs, pictures are all we need to give you a price. Tell us what happened and where you are, and we will send back a fixed quote and some dates.

Common questions in Sandford Orcas

Is a repair better than a new one?

In most cases, yes. A repair skips the removal, fitting and redecorating. We will be honest if it’s not worth it.

Can you redo someone else’s repair?

In most cases. We remove the old repair before doing a new one, so mention it when you send photos.

How durable is a resurfaced bath?

A well-prepared finish lasts a long time if it’s looked after. Gentle cleaning, no suction mats.

Do you work for landlords and businesses?

We do, regularly. We quote for multiple addresses and fit around tenancy changeovers.

Can you price it without visiting?

In nearly every case. If pictures don’t show enough, we will ask for another angle.

What does bath re-enamelling cost?

Resurfacing from £350. Every job gets a fixed price from your pictures. Send a close-up of the damage and a wider photo with your DT9 postcode.

Does the bath have to be removed?

No, it stays where it is. Everything is done in your bathroom, with the room masked and ventilated.

Which areas do you work in?

We cover the whole UK, including Sandford Orcas and the rest of Dorset. Send your postcode with your pictures and we’ll confirm dates.
