About our bath re-enamelling in South Darenth

Cast iron and steel baths are ideal for re-enamelling, and acrylic baths can be resurfaced too. You end up with a smooth, glossy surface. Common call-outs are for chips and rust in more than one place and brown or grey marks that don’t clean off, in pressed steel baths, acrylic baths and basins & shower trays.

You’re covered after we leave: each job carries a one-year guarantee, and we will explain exactly what it covers when we quote.

Repairs by material

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are the classic candidate for re-enamelling. They’re built to last, and only the surface wears, so resurfacing gives them a new life.

Acrylic

Acrylic is light and warm to the touch, but it needs firm support underneath. Repairs to cracks are reinforced from the back.

Aftercare tips

A little care keeps the finish looking good. We recommend:

  • Store bottles off the bath
  • Leave the bath for the full curing time before using it
  • A dripping tap should be fixed promptly
  • A quick wipe after use keeps limescale away

Dry the bath after use if possible, especially in hard water areas, and rinse away any product left on the surface.

Don’t try to scrub a worn bath back to shine. It just wears the enamel further.

The process

We turn up at the time we agreed with you and looks over the damage before anything else. Dust sheets and masking tape go down before any work starts. The work itself takes the best part of a day, and we leave the room as we found it.

  1. First we protect the bathroom and set up ventilation.
  2. The bath is cleaned, degreased and any chips or rust repaired.
  3. The surface is prepared and a bonding primer applied.
  4. We spray on the new enamel finish in several coats.
  5. We leave it to cure, and it’s generally ready the following day.

Preparing for the visit

  • Plan for the room to be out of bounds to pets and children
  • Let us know about parking or access
  • Avoid using the area for a few hours before we arrive

Advice

Questions from South Darenth

Do you work for landlords and businesses?

We do, regularly. We can quote for several properties together and work between tenancies.

Will there be a smell?

It depends on the job, but frequently a little. Ventilation keeps it to a minimum, and it soon fades.

How long is the bath unusable?

Typically one day, with the bath ready the day after. Deeply pitted baths may need a second day.

Do I have to be there?

We need someone to let us in. You don’t need to watch us work.

Is there a call-out fee?

Travel is included in the price, and we charge the same wherever you are.

Do you hold any accreditations?

We are accredited with CHAS, Constructionline, SafeContractor, SMAS Worksafe and Builder’s Profile.

Is it OK to have pets in the house?

On the day, the room should be kept clear of pets and children, mainly so nothing gets touched before it has cured.

Will it make a mess?

Very little mess: we sheet and mask everything nearby, and we leave the room clean.

Why repair rather than replace?

Getting a cast iron bath out is hard work: they’re heavy, frequently need breaking up, and a new one is not cheap. Resurfacing in place avoids that entirely. Prices start from £350. Every job is a little different, so we price each one individually. The size and type of damage, the material and access all play a part, and doing several things on one visit costs less than separate visits.

DIY repairs versus a professional job

If you are set on a kit, follow its instructions closely, ensure the area is clean and completely dry, and do not use it until it has fully cured. If it does not work out, we can still repair it properly.

The difference between a kit and a professional repair is mostly in the preparation and colour. We clean and key the area properly, mix the colour to your surface and finish it to the same sheen, then guarantee it for a year.

What bath re-enamelling costs

Prices start from £350. There are no hourly rates or hidden extras. The price depends on:

  • What the surface is made of
  • Access to the area
  • The size and number of damaged areas
  • How many items we do on one visit

There are no surprise extras on the day. What we quote from your pictures is what you pay, unless the damage turns out to be different, in which case we talk to you first.

Getting a price from pictures

It only takes a minute to photograph the damage. Please include:

  • The material, if you know it
  • A photo taken from further back
  • Whether it’s been repaired or coated before
  • Where you are, by postcode

If you are in South Darenth and want a price, photos are the quickest way: a close-up, a wider shot and your postcode. We reply with a fixed quote and our next available dates.

What a repair cannot fix

We will always be straight with you, so here’s what a repair cannot fix:

  • A poorly supported acrylic bath, until it’s firmed up
  • Leaks from fittings rather than the bath
  • A metal bath with a through crack

Send us photos and we’ll tell you honestly before booking.
