Bath Re-enamelling in Kent

About bath re-enamelling in Kent

We clean, repair and prime the bath before spraying the new finish. The preparation is what makes it last, so we do not cut corners on it. We regularly repair Victorian roll-tops, basins & shower trays and acrylic baths, and the jobs we see most are a coating lifting around the plughole and thin, worn enamel in places.

We work cleanly and quietly, so you can stay at home while we are there. We protect the area first, then the work takes most of the day. At the end we talk you through how soon it can be used and how to look after it.

  1. First we look the bath over and confirm the finish.
  2. Everything around the bath is masked and covered.
  3. We degrease the bath, fix any damage and key the surface.
  4. We apply the primer and then the finish coats.
  5. We remove the masking, tidy up and give you the curing time.

What you will pay

Resurfacing from £350, with every job priced individually. A repair usually costs much less than people expect, particularly next to the cost of replacement. Send photos and we’ll give you the exact figure.

How to get a price

For most jobs, photos are all we need to give you a price. Tell us what happened and where you are, and we’ll send back a fixed quote and some dates.

Near you in Maidstone

Locally, our jobs take us to homes close to Paper Makers Arms, Maidstone Grammar School and St Philip's Church. Nearby too are River Len LNR (within half a mile north-east), South Borough Primary School (within half a mile south) and St Augustine Academy (1.2 miles west). For rail, the closest station is Maidstone West station, roughly 0.6 miles north-west of the centre. Further afield, we also cover the area around Maidstone Carriage Museum (within half a mile north-west) and Oakwood Hospital (1.8 miles west). The countryside around Maidstone includes Burham Down and Boxley Hills.

Should you replace it?

If the bath is sound, re-enamelling is normally much cheaper than replacing it, when you count removal, plumbing, tiling and decorating. It’s much quicker too.

Can I fix it myself?

A kit can be fine for a tiny mark out of sight. For damage in plain view, cracks, holes or rust, or coloured finishes, a professional repair is worth it.

If you are set on a kit, follow its instructions closely, and give it the full curing time. If it does not work out, we can still repair it properly.

Common problems we fix in Kent

Enamel does not fail overnight. Years of cleaning, hard water and hot baths wear the gloss away, usually first under the taps and around the waste.

Look out for any of the following:

  • Staining under the taps and around the waste
  • Enamel that’s lost its shine and feels rough
  • Thin, worn enamel in places
  • An outdated colour you’d like to change

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Pressed steel

Pressed steel baths take a new finish well, as long as any rust is dealt with first. Rust around the waste is common on steel, so we check it carefully.

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are the classic candidate for re-enamelling. They’re built to last, and only the surface wears, so resurfacing gives them a new life.

Keeping it looking good

Good habits make a big difference to how long a repair lasts. Here’s what we suggest:

  • A dripping tap should be fixed promptly
  • Use washing-up liquid and a soft cloth
  • Do not use the bath until it has fully cured
  • Have chips seen to early

Avoid hair dye, bath bombs and oils sitting on the surface, as they can stain. Fix dripping taps quickly.

Leave a peeling coating alone. Moisture gets underneath and makes it worse, so it’s better to have it stripped and redone.

Questions from Kent

Will it make a mess?

We protect the room with dust sheets and masking first, and we clean up when we have finished.

Do you need to take the bath out?

No. We resurface it in place, so nothing else is disturbed.

It’s been repaired before. Can you still fix it?

Yes, regularly. It can add a little time, which we include in the quote.

Do you come to Kent?

Yes. We work across the UK and travel to Kent. Send pictures and we will quote, or call 0345 017 0787.

How soon can you come?

That depends on our diary for your area. We’ll offer you dates when we send your quote.

Is a repair better than a new one?

Generally, yes. Replacement brings removal, refitting and making good, which a repair avoids. If it isn’t worth repairing, we’ll tell you.

I rent my home. Can I book you?

Yes, but check with your landlord or agent first. Landlords are frequently glad to have it sorted.
