Bath re-enamelling for Southrey homes

How we handle bath re-enamelling in Southrey

The bath stays where it is, so the taps, tiles and plumbing aren’t touched. Most baths are done in one visit, and can be used again the following day. We’re often asked to fix an old resurfacing that’s failing and worn patches where water runs and sits, across basins & shower trays, acrylic baths and pressed steel baths.

You are covered after we leave: our one-year guarantee applies to every job, and we explain what it covers before booking.

How the visit works

The work is clean and fairly quiet, so you can carry on at home. We protect the area first, then the job itself takes most of the day. At the end we talk you through the curing time and the aftercare.

  1. We mask and protect the room and ventilate it.
  2. The bath is cleaned, degreased and any chips or rust repaired.
  3. We prepare the surface and apply a bonding primer.
  4. We spray on the new enamel finish in several coats.
  5. Once cured, normally by the following day, the bath is ready.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Mention any parking restrictions or tricky access
  • Keep a parking space free if you can
  • Ensure the room can be ventilated

For landlords and businesses

We regularly price jobs from inventory or check-out photos. That means we can quote before you even visit the property, and we can arrange access with the tenant directly if that helps.

Rental properties take more wear, and replacing items every time a tenant leaves is expensive. Repairing between tenants keeps the property presentable for less.

Should you replace it?

There are times replacing is better: if the bath is cracked through, if you want a different size or shape, or if you’re refitting the entire room anyway. In most other cases, resurfacing is the better choice. Prices start from £350. There are no surprise extras on the day. The price we quote from your photos is the price you pay, unless the damage turns out to be different, in which case we talk to you first.

What affects the price in Southrey

Resurfacing from £350. There’s no area surcharge for Southrey. The price reflects:

  • The material and finish
  • How many items we do on one visit
  • What kind of damage it is
  • How many areas need work

A few things move the price: access, material, the extent of the damage and whether we can do several items together. Send photos and you will get a fixed figure.

How to get a fixed quote

Before you send pictures, a few simple things make all the difference:

  • A clear, close picture of the problem area
  • What it’s made of, if you know
  • Something in shot to show the size
  • Any earlier repairs or coatings

Email us a picture of the damage and one of the whole item, with your LN3 postcode, and we will come back with a fixed quote.

When we would advise against a repair

It helps to know what we cannot do too:

  • Steel that has corroded right through
  • Acrylic that moves when you stand in it
  • A metal bath with a through crack

Send us pictures and we’ll tell you honestly before booking.

Southrey: your questions answered

Can you re-enamel a roll-top bath?

Yes, roll-tops are a big part of our work. We resurface the inside, and the outside can be refinished too.

Is it worth repairing rather than replacing?

Generally, yes. Replacement brings removal, refitting and making good, which a repair avoids. We’ll be honest if it’s not worth it.

Does someone need to be in?

We need someone to let us in. You don’t need to watch us work.

Will there be fumes?

There is some smell while the coating is applied, so we ventilate the room. It fades as the coating cures.

Can pets and children be at home?

Just keep them out of the work area. We will let you know when it’s safe to use again.

Is it messy?

Very little mess: we sheet and mask everything nearby, and we leave the room clean.

Can tenants book a repair?

Yes. Check with your landlord; we can send the quote to them too.

What does bath re-enamelling cost?

Prices start from £350. The exact price depends on the damage, so we quote from photos. You know the full cost before anything is booked.

DIY kit or professional repair?

DIY kits are sold for most surfaces, and they can make a small mark look better. The trouble is colour and preparation: kits come in a few standard shades, and without proper cleaning and keying the filler often lifts.

It’s tempting to reach for a kit, but the repairs we redo most often are DIY ones that have discoloured or lifted. Doing it properly first is normally the cheaper route.

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Roll-top and period baths

We can resurface a roll-top inside and out, with the outside refinished as well.

Acrylic

Acrylic feels warm and is light, but it needs firm support underneath. Cracks are strengthened from behind before the front is finished.

Keeping it looking good

Nothing complicated is needed:

  • Don’t leave a chip unrepaired
  • Dry the bath after use to stop limescale
  • Keep suction mats out of the bath
  • Store bottles off the bath

Wipe the bath dry after use where you can, particularly with hard water, and rinse off any bath products.

Rust spots on a worn bath get worse with time and make the job bigger. It’s simpler to resurface before they spread.
