Bath re-enamelling in Southsea

How we handle bath re-enamelling in Southsea

Many of the baths we re-enamel are period roll-tops, which are heavy, hard to move and costly to replace. Resurfacing them in place keeps the original bath. Typical jobs include a period or roll-top bath worth keeping and an old resurfacing that’s failing, on acrylic baths, cast iron baths and Victorian roll-tops.

You get a one-year guarantee, the same in Southsea as everywhere else we work.

Common questions in Southsea

What happens next?

We check the damage, the material and your postcode, then reply with a quote with dates.

Is a repair better than a new one?

Typically, when the rest is in good condition. A repair avoids removal and making good. If replacing would be better, we’ll say so.

How do I get a price for bath re-enamelling in Southsea?

Resurfacing from £350. The exact price depends on the damage, so we quote from pictures. You’ll get a fixed figure before booking.

Someone resurfaced my bath and it’s peeling. Can you help?

In most cases. The old coating comes off before we resurface it. Tell us about it when you ask for a quote.

What information do you need?

Send pictures through the quote form or call 0345 017 0787.

Is there a smell?

A little, during the work. Ventilation keeps it down, and it fades as the finish cures.

Can I add another job to the visit?

Yes. Combining jobs on one visit brings the cost down. Include pictures of each item.

What areas do you cover?

We work UK-wide, and that includes Southsea. Prices don’t change with location.

How we price bath re-enamelling

Prices start from £350. We give every job a fixed quote from pictures. These are the things that affect it:

  • Whether it’s a chip, crack, burn or wear
  • What the surface is made of
  • The colour and finish to match
  • Previous DIY repairs that have to come out

Every job is a little different, so we price each one individually. What’s damaged, how badly and how easy it is to reach all play a part, and combining jobs on one visit brings the cost down.

Quotes from your pictures

Good pictures mean an accurate price. Here’s what we find most useful:

  • Something in shot to show the size
  • A picture taken from further back
  • A clear, close picture of the problem area
  • Daylight if possible, and no flash reflection

We price from pictures so you do not have to wait in for a survey. Send them through the quote form, or call 0345 017 0787 if you’d rather talk it through, and you’ll get a fixed figure back.

Looking after it afterwards

Nothing complicated is needed:

  • Don’t use the bath until it has fully cured
  • Do not leave bottles, razors or sponges standing on the surface
  • Stick to gentle, non-abrasive cleaners
  • Dry the bath after use to stop limescale

Wait for the curing time we give you before the first bath. After that, a soft cloth and washing-up liquid is all it needs.

Do not try to scrub a worn bath back to shine. It removes more of the surface and makes resurfacing more work.

Should you replace it?

Replacing the bath means a plumber, removing a heavy bath, re-tiling or making good the walls and days without a bathroom. Resurfacing renews the whole surface without moving it. Prices start from £350. Compared with replacing, a repair is normally a fraction of the price, because nothing has to be taken out, refitted or made good. The quote lists exactly what you’re paying for.

The process

Once we’re through the door, the aim is to do the job without disturbing the rest of your home. Surfaces nearby are masked off, the job takes a full day, depending on what we find, and we finish by cleaning up and talking you through the result.

  1. We mask and protect the room and ventilate it.
  2. The bath is cleaned, degreased and any chips or rust repaired.
  3. We prepare the surface and apply a bonding primer.
  4. We spray several coats of new enamel finish.
  5. The bath is left to cure and can generally be used the next day.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Tell us about any previous repairs or coatings
  • Let the surface dry out before the visit
  • Have somewhere for us to park nearby if possible

How to get a price

You don’t need a survey visit. Nearly every job can be priced from photos: send a close-up, a wider shot and your postcode, and we will reply with a fixed price.

Signs you need bath re-enamelling in Southsea

Once enamel loses its gloss, it stains more easily, and cleaning harder only makes it worse. At that stage, resurfacing is the fix.

Most people get in touch when they notice something like this:

  • An old resurfacing that is failing
  • Chips and rust in more than one place
  • Enamel that is lost its shine and feels rough
  • A period or roll-top bath worth keeping

What to look for in a quote

  • Who turns up on the day
  • What preparation is included
  • If travel is included in the price
  • What protection goes down before work starts

Choosing a repair company

Work for landlords and builders

We work for landlords, letting agents and housing providers in Southsea as well as householders. A repair between tenants keeps the property empty for less time, and it generally costs far less than a refit.

Hospitality businesses can’t afford rooms out of action for long, so we keep visits short and tidy. We can work around your bookings.

DIY repairs versus a professional job

You can buy a DIY kit for most repairs, and they can tidy up a tiny mark. Where they fall down is colour and preparation: kits come in a few standard shades, and without proper cleaning and keying the filler frequently lifts.

For a hairline mark somewhere you’ll never see, a kit may be enough. For anything you look at every day, anything that has rusted, cracked or holed, or anything on a coloured surface, it’s worth having it done properly.

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Roll-top and period baths

We can resurface a roll-top inside and out, with the outside refinished as well.

Pressed steel

Steel baths and trays have a thin metal body under the enamel. Once a chip exposes it, rust follows quickly, so we treat and seal the metal before filling.
