Bath re-enamelling near Strathore

About our bath re-enamelling in Strathore

We do not move the bath, so your taps, tiles and plumbing are left alone. Most baths are done in one visit, and can be used again the next day. We’re frequently asked to fix a period or roll-top bath worth keeping and chips and rust in more than one place, on pressed steel baths, Victorian roll-tops and cast iron baths.

We stand behind the work with a one-year guarantee, so you are not left on your own once we’ve gone.

Landlords, agents and businesses in Strathore

If you manage property in Strathore, we can repair and quote for several addresses together. Just send photos for each address and we’ll price them together.

Hotels, guest houses and holiday lets need rooms back in use quickly, so most of our work is done in a single visit. We can work around your bookings.

Looking after it afterwards

After the repair has cured, a few habits help it last:

  • Avoid suction-cup mats
  • Store bottles off the bath
  • Fix dripping taps quickly
  • Clean with a soft cloth and mild detergent

Avoid hair dye, bath bombs and oils sitting on the surface, as they can stain. Repair dripping taps promptly.

Don’t try to scrub a worn bath back to shine. It just wears the enamel further and makes resurfacing more work.

Questions from Strathore

Can you do the outside of a roll-top?

Yes. Inside and out.

Will it make a mess?

We protect the room with dust sheets and masking first, and we clean up when we’ve finished.

Can you repair something that’s been repaired before?

Generally, yes. Tell us what was done before.

Is there a smell?

Some odour is normal while we spray, so we ventilate the room. It fades as the coating cures.

Do the materials smell?

There can be some smell while we work, so we ventilate the room. It clears as the materials cure.

Do you charge for travel?

Travel is included in the price, and we charge the same wherever you are.

Can you fix a peeling bath coating?

Yes, we do this regularly. Removing the old finish takes extra time, which we include in the price.

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Acrylic

Acrylic is light and warm to the touch, but it relies on good support. Cracks are strengthened from behind before the front is finished.

Pressed steel

Pressed steel baths take a new finish well, once any rust has been treated. Rust around the waste is common on steel, so we check it carefully.

How we price bath re-enamelling

Resurfacing from £350. There are no hourly rates or hidden extras. The price is based on:

  • The type of damage
  • How hard the colour is to match
  • Whether we combine several jobs
  • How much damage there is

Set against the cost of replacement, a repair is typically a fraction of the price, because there’s no removal, plumbing or making good. Your fixed quote shows exactly what’s included.

Getting a price from pictures

The better the photos, the more accurate the price. Here’s what we find most useful:

  • Whether it’s been repaired or coated before
  • Where you are, by postcode
  • Daylight if possible, and no flash reflection
  • One sharp close-up of the damage

The quickest way to a price is to send a couple of photos through our quote form or call us. We’ll say right away if a repair is the right fix.

Repair or replace: which is better?

A new bath means a plumber, removing a heavy bath, making good the walls and tiles and days without a bathroom. Re-enamelling gives the bath a new finish with the bath left where it is. Resurfacing from £350, with every job priced individually. No two jobs are quite the same, so each one is priced on its own. The size and type of damage, the material and access all make a difference, and doing several things on one visit costs less than separate visits.

How it works

From the moment we arrive, the aim is to do the job without disturbing the rest of your home. We mask off everything nearby, the job takes most of the day, and we finish with a tidy-up and a look at the finished work together.

  1. We mask and protect the room and ventilate it.
  2. Next we degrease the bath and fix chips and rust spots.
  3. We prepare the surface and apply a bonding primer.
  4. We spray on the new enamel finish in several coats.
  5. Once cured, normally by the following day, the bath is ready.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Let us know which floor the room is on
  • Ensure the room can be ventilated
  • Avoid using the area for a few hours before we arrive

Honest limits

Not everything can be repaired, and we’ll tell you before we start. We cannot fix:

  • Anything hidden under an old coating, until we remove it
  • Steel that has corroded right through
  • Leaks from fittings rather than the bath

Send us pictures and we’ll tell you honestly before booking.

DIY repairs versus a professional job

If you do try a kit, read the instructions carefully and work on a clean, dry surface, and give it the full curing time. If it does not work out, we can still repair it properly.

For a hairline mark somewhere you’ll never see, a kit may be enough. For damage in plain view, cracks, holes or rust, or coloured finishes, it’s worth having it done properly.
