Bath re-enamelling in Toogs

About our bath re-enamelling in Toogs

We resurface cast iron, steel and acrylic baths, including roll-tops and period baths. The finish is sprayed on in several coats over a bonding primer, after the bath has been cleaned, repaired and keyed. We work on basins & shower trays, pressed steel baths and cast iron baths, and the jobs we see most are an outdated colour you’d like to change and enamel that’s lost its shine and feels rough.

Every repair is covered by our one-year guarantee, wherever you are in the Shetland Islands.

Should you replace it?

A new bath means a plumber, removing a heavy bath, re-tiling or making good the walls and days without a bathroom. Re-enamelling renews the entire surface with the bath left where it is. Our bath re-enamelling starts from £350. Compared with replacing, repairing normally costs far less, because nothing has to be taken out, refitted or made good. Your fixed quote shows exactly what’s included.

DIY repairs versus a professional job

DIY kits are sold for most surfaces, and they can make a small mark look better. Where they fall down is colour and preparation: kits come in a few standard shades, and without proper cleaning and keying the filler often lifts.

A DIY attempt isn’t a disaster. We take the old repair out and do it properly, so it will not stop us repairing it. It does add a little time, so tell us about it when you send pictures.

How it works

We turn up when we said we would and checks the damage against your photos first. The floor and nearby surfaces are covered before we open a single tin. Most visits take the best part of a day, and the room is left clean and tidy.

  1. First we look the bath over and confirm the finish.
  2. Taps, tiles and the floor are masked off.
  3. We degrease the bath, fix any damage and key the surface.
  4. We apply the primer and then the finish coats.
  5. We remove the masking, tidy up and give you the curing time.

Prices and what affects them

Resurfacing from £350. There are no hourly rates or hidden extras. The price depends on:

  • Access to the area
  • What kind of damage it is
  • Unusual colours or finishes
  • Doing more than one item at once

Every job is a little different, so each one is priced on its own. What’s damaged, how badly and how easy it is to reach all make a difference, and combining jobs on one visit brings the cost down.

Photographing the damage takes a minute, and it saves a visit. Please include:

  • One picture of the whole bath
  • Details of any past repairs
  • A coin beside the damage so we can judge size
  • Natural light rather than flash

Toogs: your questions answered

Do you cover the whole of the Shetland Islands?

We work UK-wide. Prices don’t change with location.

Do you come to Toogs?

Yes. We work across the UK and travel to Toogs. Send pictures and we’ll quote, or call 0345 017 0787.

What information do you need?

Send photos through the quote form or call 0345 017 0787.

Is a repair better than a new one?

In most cases, yes. A repair skips the removal, fitting and redecorating. We’ll be honest if it’s not worth it.

What if the damage is worse than the photos show?

If we find something the pictures didn’t show, we explain it first. The price only changes if you agree.

Do I need to be at home?

Yes. The technician needs access to the room for the visit, at a time that suits you.

Can a failed resurfacing be redone?

Yes, we do this regularly. Removing the old finish takes extra time, which we include in the price.

Can you re-enamel a roll-top bath?

Yes. Inside and out.

What a repair cannot fix

We will not take on work that won’t last, so here’s what a repair cannot put right:

  • A metal bath with a through crack
  • Anything hidden under an old coating, until we remove it
  • A poorly supported acrylic bath, until it’s firmed up

If in doubt, send pictures and we’ll say what we think before you book.

Materials we repair

  • Acrylic baths
  • Basins & shower trays
  • Cast iron baths
  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Pressed steel baths

Repairs by material

Pressed steel

Steel baths and trays have a thin metal body under the enamel. Once a chip exposes it, rust follows quickly, so we treat and seal the metal before filling.

Acrylic

We resurface acrylic baths as well, with a coating system suited to acrylic. It must be solid and not flex underfoot.

Signs you need bath re-enamelling in Toogs

The gloss on enamel is thin, and every scrub with an abrasive cleaner takes a little away. Eventually the surface turns porous and stains.

Send us a photo if you notice any of these:

  • An old resurfacing that’s failing
  • Lots of chips and rust spots
  • A bath that stays dull however much you clean it
  • Brown or grey marks that do not clean off

What to look for in a quote

  • Whether there are any call-out or travel charges
  • How to look after the finish
  • Who turns up on the day
  • When it can be used again
