Bath re-enamelling for Torbryan homes

How we handle bath re-enamelling in Torbryan

If your bath is sound but looks tired, resurfacing is normally the best value. There is no removal, plumbing or tiling involved. Our technicians work on pressed steel baths, cast iron baths and Victorian roll-tops, and people most frequently call us about a coating lifting around the plughole and brown or grey marks that don’t clean off.

All our work comes with our one-year guarantee.

Looking after it afterwards

A little care keeps the finish looking good. Our advice:

  • Don’t use the bath until it has fully cured
  • Have chips seen to early
  • Store bottles off the bath
  • Use washing-up liquid and a soft cloth

Dry the bath after use if possible, especially in hard water areas, and rinse off any bath products.

Avoid scrubbing a dull bath with abrasive cleaners. It just wears the enamel further.

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Roll-top and period baths

Freestanding roll-tops can be done inside and out, and the outside can be refinished too.

Pressed steel

Steel baths re-enamel well, once any rust has been treated. Steel frequently rusts by the plughole, so we check it carefully.

Can I get a quote without a visit?

How soon can you come?

It depends on the time of year and where you are. Send photos with your postcode and we’ll reply with the earliest dates.

Do you resurface freestanding baths?

Yes. We can do the inside and outside.

Is there a guarantee?

Yes: twelve months. If there’s a problem with the work in that time, we come back and put it right.

Can you redo someone else’s repair?

Generally, yes. Let us know what was used before.

The process

Your technician turns up when we said we would and looks over the damage before anything else. Dust sheets and masking tape go down before any work starts. Most visits take the best part of a day, and we leave the room as we found it.

  1. We check the bath and agree the finish with you.
  2. Everything around the bath is masked and covered.
  3. We degrease the bath, fix any damage and key the surface.
  4. Primer and finish coats are applied.
  5. We remove the masking, tidy up and give you the curing time.

Before we arrive

  • Mention if the room is upstairs or in a flat
  • Avoid using the area for a few hours before we arrive
  • Let us know if it has been repaired before

Advice

Should I try a DIY kit first?

We understand the appeal of fixing it yourself. The risk is that a kit repair hides the damage for a while, then fails, and the old filler has to come out before a proper repair.

It’s tempting to reach for a kit, but many of the jobs we do start with putting right a DIY repair. Getting it right first time is typically cheaper.

What we can’t put right

In fairness, some problems need a different fix:

  • A metal bath with a through crack
  • Steel that has corroded right through
  • A poorly supported acrylic bath, until it’s firmed up

If in doubt, send photos and we’ll say what we think.

Materials we repair

  • Basins & shower trays
  • Cast iron baths
  • Pressed steel baths
  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Acrylic baths

Should you replace it?

Replacing a bath generally involves a plumber, a fitter and a tiler. Re-enamelling takes one technician and generally one day, and the bath can be used the day after. Our bath re-enamelling starts from £350. Most people are surprised how affordable a repair is, especially compared with replacing and refitting. Send pictures and we’ll give you the exact figure.

How we price bath re-enamelling

Resurfacing from £350. We charge the same across the UK, including Torbryan. What changes the price is:

  • The size and number of damaged areas
  • Unusual colours or finishes
  • Any earlier repairs that need removing first
  • What the surface is made of

No two jobs are quite the same, so we price each one individually. What’s damaged, how badly and how easy it is to reach all play a part, and doing several things on one visit costs less than separate visits.

Send pictures for a quote

Photographing the damage takes a minute. Please include:

  • A wider photo showing the entire bath
  • A close-up of the damage, in focus
  • Natural light rather than flash
  • Your postcode, so we can check dates

To get a price, send two or three pictures using our quote form or call us. We’ll say straight away if a repair is the right fix.
