Bath re-enamelling in Trewen

Bath re-enamelling in Trewen without replacing anything

We resurface cast iron, steel and acrylic baths, including roll-tops and period baths. Several coats of finish go on over a bonding primer, once the bath has been cleaned, repaired and prepared. We are frequently asked to fix an outdated colour you’d like to change and a dull, rough surface that won’t come clean, on Victorian roll-tops, acrylic baths and pressed steel baths.

You get a one-year guarantee, the same in Trewen as everywhere else we work.

How to look after the repair

Much of the damage we repair could have been avoided. A few tips:

  • A quick wipe after use keeps limescale away
  • Repair dripping taps early
  • Do not let dyes or oils sit on the finish
  • Store bottles off the bath

Wipe the bath dry after use where you can, especially in hard water areas, and rinse away any product left on the surface.

If a previous coating is starting to peel, don’t pick at it. Moisture gets underneath and makes it worse, so have it stripped and resurfaced.

When a repair is not the answer

We would rather lose a job than do one that won’t last, so here’s what a repair can’t put right:

  • Leaking taps or wastes (a plumber’s job)
  • A metal bath with a through crack
  • Acrylic that moves when you stand in it

If in doubt, send pictures and we will say what we think before you book.

What happens on the day

There’s not much you need to do on the day. Let us in and show us the room, and we will take it from there. Most visits take the best part of a day, including clearing up.

  1. We check the bath and agree the finish with you.
  2. Everything around the bath is masked and covered.
  3. The bath is degreased, repaired and keyed.
  4. Primer and finish coats are applied.
  5. The masking comes off, we tidy up and tell you when it can be used.

Preparing for the visit

  • Tell us about parking, stairs or access
  • Mention any earlier repairs or resurfacing
  • Plan for the room to be out of bounds to pets and children

Getting a price

We price from pictures so you don’t have to wait in for a survey. Send them through the quote form, or call 0345 017 0787 if you’d rather talk it through.

Repair or replace in Trewen?

There are times replacing is better: a cracked-through bath, a change of size or shape, or a full refit. In most other cases, resurfacing is the better choice. Prices start from £350. Our prices are the same across the UK, so there’s no premium for Trewen. What changes the price is the job itself: how much damage, what it’s made of and how many items.

Different materials, different repairs

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are the classic candidate for re-enamelling. The body lasts for generations; only the enamel wears, so resurfacing gives them a new life.

Pressed steel

Under the enamel of a steel bath is thin metal. Exposed steel rusts quickly, so we treat and seal the metal before filling.

  • Enamel that is lost its shine and feels rough
  • A coloured bath you want in white
  • A roll-top that is seen better days

Our hiring checklist

Landlord and trade work in Trewen

Rental properties take more wear, and replacing items every time a tenant leaves is expensive. Repairing between tenants keeps the property presentable for less.

If you manage property in Trewen, we can repair and quote for several addresses together. Send pictures for each one and we’ll price them together.

DIY kit or professional repair?

The difference between a kit and a professional repair is mostly in the preparation and colour. We prepare the area properly, mix the colour on site and polish the finish to match, and the work is guaranteed.

If you’re set on a kit, follow its instructions closely, and do not use it until it has fully cured. If it does not work out, we can still repair it properly.
