Bath re-enamelling in Waterloo

Should you replace it?

If the bath is sound, re-enamelling is normally much cheaper than replacing it, once you add removal, plumbing, tiling and decorating to the price of a new bath. It’s also far quicker. Our bath re-enamelling starts from £350. Most people are surprised how affordable a repair is, especially compared with replacing and refitting. Photos let us give you the exact figure.

Bath re-enamelling at your home in Waterloo

When a bath is structurally fine but worn out on the surface, resurfacing is normally the best value. It avoids removal, plumbing and re-tiling. Our repair technicians work on Victorian roll-tops, basins & shower trays and pressed steel baths, and people most frequently call us about lots of chips and rust spots and a coloured bath you want in white.

The work is guaranteed for twelve months. If there’s a problem with the repair within the year, we return and sort it.

The process

You do not need to empty the room. Everything we use comes in the van with us, lay protective sheets and start once you are happy with the plan. Most jobs take most of the day, and you can get on with other things while we are there.

  1. The room is masked, protected and ventilated.
  2. Next we degrease the bath and fix chips and rust spots.
  3. The surface is prepared and a bonding primer applied.
  4. We spray on the new enamel finish in several coats.
  5. The bath is left to cure and can generally be used the next day.

Preparing for the visit

  • Move bottles, mats and clutter away from the area
  • Mention any parking restrictions or tricky access
  • Ensure the area is dry

How to look after the repair

Nothing complicated is needed, just a few sensible habits:

  • Do not leave a chip unrepaired
  • Don’t use the bath until it has fully cured
  • Don’t leave bottles, razors or sponges standing on the surface
  • Use washing-up liquid and a soft cloth

Wait for the curing time we give you before the first bath. After that, a soft cloth and washing-up liquid is all it needs.

On a worn bath, rust spots keep spreading. It’s simpler to resurface before they spread.

Do you need bath re-enamelling in Waterloo?

Sometimes it’s an earlier resurfacing that has failed, peeling around the waste or bubbling. Failing coatings are stripped back before we resurface.

Look out for any of the following:

  • A dull, rough surface that will not come clean
  • Several chips and rust patches
  • Thin, worn enamel in places
  • A period or roll-top bath worth keeping

Questions to ask before you book

  • Whether cleaning and preparation are in the price
  • Who turns up on the day
  • Whether the price covers travel
  • Is the price fixed, and does it include VAT?

Choosing a repair company

What your bath is made of matters

Roll-top and period baths

We can resurface a roll-top inside and out, and the outside can be refinished too.

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are the classic candidate for re-enamelling. The body lasts for generations; only the enamel wears, so a new finish makes them look new again.

Honest limits

It helps to know what we cannot do:

  • Problems we can’t see until an old finish comes off
  • Holes rusted through the metal
  • A poorly supported acrylic bath, until it’s firmed up

Not sure? Send pictures and we’ll give you a straight answer.

Surfaces we repair

  • Acrylic baths
  • Basins & shower trays
  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Cast iron baths
  • Pressed steel baths

Work for landlords and builders

We regularly work with letting and managing agents. Just send pictures, the address and how to get access.

We regularly price jobs from inventory or check-out photos. That means we can quote before you even visit the property, and we liaise with tenants about access if you’d like us to.

Should I try a DIY kit first?

The difference between a kit and a professional repair is mostly in the preparation and colour. We clean and key the area properly, mix the colour to your surface and finish it to the same sheen, and the work is guaranteed.

Kits are cheap and easy to find, but the repairs we redo most frequently are DIY ones that have discoloured or lifted. Doing it properly first is usually the cheaper route.

FAQs for Waterloo

Is there a call-out fee?

We don’t add a call-out fee. The fixed price covers the visit and the work.

Can a failed resurfacing be redone?

Yes, we do this regularly. Removing the old finish takes extra time, which we include in the price.

Can pets and children be at home?

Yes, as long as they stay out of the room we are working in. We will tell you when the room can be used again.

Will the new finish last?

That depends on preparation and how the bath is treated. Properly prepared and looked after, it lasts well, and our work is guaranteed for a year.

What happens if you find more damage?

Your quote covers the damage in the photos. Anything extra is discussed before we begin.

Can you make a coloured bath white?

Yes. Coloured baths can be resurfaced in white, and the basin and toilet can be done too.

Is a repair better than a new one?

Generally, yes. Replacement brings removal, refitting and making good, which a repair avoids. We will be honest if it’s not worth it.

Can you do the outside of a roll-top?

Yes. We can do the inside and outside.
