Bath re-enamelling for West Devon homes

Can I fix it myself?

The difference between a kit and a professional repair is mostly in the preparation and colour. We prepare the area properly, mix the colour on site and polish the finish to match, then guarantee it for a year.

If you’ve already tried a DIY fix, that is fine. We remove the old filler and start again, so it won’t stop us repairing it. Just mention it when you send photos, as it can add time.

Bath re-enamelling in West Devon without replacing anything

We clean, repair and prime the bath before spraying the new finish. Most of the work, and most of the durability, is in the preparation, so we don’t cut corners on it. If you are dealing with a peeling or bubbling previous coating and thin, worn enamel in places, we can generally put it right, on Victorian roll-tops, cast iron baths and basins & shower trays alike.

You get a one-year guarantee, the same in West Devon as everywhere else we work.

Repairs by material

Cast iron

Re-enamelling suits cast iron baths perfectly. They’re built to last, and only the surface wears, so a new finish makes them look new again.

Acrylic

We resurface acrylic baths as well, with a coating system suited to acrylic. It must be solid and not flex underfoot for the finish to last.

How the visit works

Nothing needs to be moved out of the room beforehand. We bring everything we need with us, put protection down and start once you’re happy with the plan. Most jobs take most of the day, and you’re welcome to carry on with your day while we work.

  1. First we protect the bathroom and set up ventilation.
  2. The bath is cleaned, degreased and any chips or rust repaired.
  3. We key the surface and put on a bonding primer.
  4. Several coats of new finish are sprayed on.
  5. The bath is left to cure and can normally be used the day after.

How to prepare

  • Tell us about any previous repairs or coatings
  • Keep children and pets away from the room on the day
  • Tell us if there are stairs or a lift

FAQs for West Devon

Can you do the outside of a roll-top?

Yes, often. We resurface the inside, and the outside can be refinished too.

Do you charge for travel?

Travel is included in the price, with the same prices everywhere we work.

Can pets and children be at home?

Yes, as long as they stay out of the room we are working in. We will tell you when the room can be used again.

Do you do work for letting agents?

Yes, often. We quote for multiple addresses and fit around tenancy changeovers.

Can you change the colour of my bath?

Yes. We can resurface a coloured bath in white, and the basin and toilet can be done too.

Can tenants book a repair?

Yes, but check with your landlord or agent first. Landlords are often glad to have it sorted.

Can a failed resurfacing be redone?

Yes, we do this regularly. Stripping the old coating adds time, so it’s reflected in the quote.

Will the price change on the day?

The price is fixed for what the pictures show. If there’s more, we’ll tell you before starting.

When we’d advise against a repair

It helps to know what we can’t do too:

  • A cast iron or steel bath that is cracked right through
  • Plumbing leaks, which need a plumber
  • Anything hidden under an old coating, until we remove it

If in doubt, send pictures and we’ll say what we think before booking.

Materials we work on in West Devon

  • Acrylic baths
  • Basins & shower trays
  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Pressed steel baths
  • Cast iron baths

Why repair rather than replace?

A refit takes several trades and several days. Resurfacing is one technician, normally in a day, and the bath can be used the day after. Our bath re-enamelling starts from £350. A repair is priced on what needs doing, not your postcode. You’ll see the full price before booking, with nothing added on the day.

Why West Devon customers choose us

  • We will tell you if it’s not worth repairing
  • Rooms protected and left tidy
  • One price list for the entire UK
  • Accredited with CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor

Read our full price list and guide to resurfacing and replacement costs.

How to care for the repair

Simple care helps the repair last. Our advice:

  • Avoid suction-cup mats
  • Respect the curing time we give you
  • Keep toiletries on a shelf rather than in the bath
  • Don’t leave a chip unrepaired

Use mild, non-abrasive cleaners, don’t use suction bath mats, and keep bottles and razors off the surface.

Avoid scrubbing a dull bath with abrasive cleaners. It removes more of the surface and makes resurfacing more work.

Work for landlords and builders

Hospitality businesses need rooms back in use quickly, so we keep visits short and tidy. We will fit around changeovers where we can.

We are used to working with agents and managing companies. Just send photos, the address and how to get access and we will handle the rest.

Signs you need bath re-enamelling in West Devon

In hard water areas, limescale and the cleaning it needs wear enamel faster, and abrasive cleaners do the most damage.

The things customers typically mention when they call include:

  • Thin, worn enamel in places
  • Staining under the taps and around the waste
  • An old resurfacing that is failing
  • Chips and rust in more than one place

What to look for in a quote

  • Whether there are any call-out or travel charges
  • What happens if they find more damage
  • Whether cleaning and preparation are in the price
  • What protection goes down before work starts
