How we handle bath re-enamelling in West Reading

Cast iron, steel, acrylic, roll-top and period baths can all be resurfaced. Several coats of finish go on over a bonding primer, once the bath has been cleaned, repaired and prepared. Whether it’s enamel that’s lost its shine and feels rough and thin, worn enamel in places, we can usually put it right, whatever the material.

All our work is covered by our one-year guarantee, wherever you are in Reading.

What a repair cannot fix

It helps to know what we cannot do too:

  • Plumbing leaks, which need a plumber
  • A cast iron or steel bath that is cracked right through
  • A poorly supported acrylic bath, until it’s firmed up

Not sure? Send photos and we will give you a straight answer.

What we work on

  • Basins & shower trays
  • Pressed steel baths
  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Acrylic baths
  • Cast iron baths

What your bath is made of matters

Roll-top and period baths

We can resurface a roll-top inside and out, with the outside refinished as well.

Acrylic

Acrylic feels warm and is light, but it relies on good support. Repairs to cracks are reinforced from the back.

Looking after it afterwards

Simple care helps the repair last. We recommend:

  • Keep suction mats out of the bath
  • Keep toiletries on a shelf rather than in the bath
  • Use washing-up liquid and a soft cloth
  • Don’t let dyes or oils sit on the finish

Give the finish its full curing time before using the bath. After that, a soft cloth and washing-up liquid is all it needs.

Worn enamel only gets rougher with time, and rust spots spread under the surface. Acting earlier keeps the preparation simpler.

Can I fix it myself?

You can buy a DIY kit for most repairs, and they can tidy up a tiny mark. Where they fall down is colour and preparation: kits come in a few standard shades, and without proper cleaning and keying the filler often lifts.

If you are set on a kit, follow its instructions closely and work on a clean, dry surface, and give it the full curing time. If it doesn’t work out, we can still repair it properly.

Landlords, agents and businesses in West Reading

We regularly work with letting and managing agents. Send the address, pictures and access details.

Rental properties take more wear, and replacing items every time a tenant leaves is expensive. Repairing between tenants keeps the property presentable for less.

How it works

It’s a tidy, low-fuss visit. We confirm the time with you beforehand, protect the area, and get on with the job, which normally takes the best part of a day. If anything looks different from your pictures, we’ll talk to you before going ahead.

  1. First we look the bath over and confirm the finish.
  2. Everything around the bath is masked and covered.
  3. The bath is degreased, repaired and keyed.
  4. Primer and finish coats are applied.
  5. We remove the masking, tidy up and give you the curing time.

How to prepare

  • Make sure the area is dry
  • Tell us about parking, stairs or access
  • Let us know if it has been repaired before

West Reading: your questions answered

Can pets and children be at home?

On the day, the room should be kept clear of pets and children, mainly so nothing gets touched before it has cured.

Can you resurface a pink bath in white?

Yes, most people go for white. Tell us what you’d like when you ask for a quote.

Do I need to be at home?

Someone needs to let us in and show us the job. You do not need to watch us work.

Will the price change on the day?

If we find something the photos didn’t show, we explain it first. You decide whether to go ahead.

Do you resurface freestanding baths?

Yes. Inside and out if you’d like.

What happens after I send pictures?

We look at the photos and reply with a fixed quote and some dates. If we need another angle, we’ll ask.

Do you come to West Reading?

Yes. We work across the UK and travel to West Reading. Send photos and we will quote, or call 0345 017 0787.

Which areas do you work in?

All of Reading, and the rest of the UK. There’s no extra charge for travel.

Repair or replace: which is better?

Replacement only makes sense in a few cases: a cracked-through bath, a change of size or shape, or a full refit. In most other cases, resurfacing is the better choice. Prices start from £350. A repair usually costs much less than people expect, particularly next to the cost of replacement. Photos let us give you the exact figure.
