Bath re-enamelling in Westgate, done in place
When a bath is structurally fine but worn out on the surface, re-enamelling is typically the most cost-effective option. There is no removal, plumbing or tiling involved. We work on basins & shower trays, pressed steel baths and Victorian roll-tops, and common reasons people contact us are stains that won’t shift and chips and rust in more than one place.
Every repair comes with a one-year guarantee, wherever you are in County Durham.

How it works
It’s a tidy, low-fuss visit. We confirm the time with you beforehand, cover and mask the work area, then carry out the work, which normally takes the best part of a day. If we find something your pictures didn’t show, we’ll explain it before carrying on.
- We sheet, mask and ventilate the room.
- Old sealant is cut out and the bath is deep cleaned.
- Chips, rust and pitting are repaired.
- The surface is keyed and primed for the new finish.
- Several coats of finish are sprayed on, then it cures.
How to prepare
- Have somewhere for us to park nearby if possible
- Move bottles, mats and clutter away from the area
- Have a window or extractor fan available

Advice
Repairs by material
Cast iron
Cast iron baths are the classic candidate for re-enamelling. The body lasts for generations; only the enamel wears, so resurfacing gives them a new life.
Roll-top and period baths
We can resurface a roll-top inside and out, with the outside refinished as well.
How to look after the repair
Once the work has cured, treat it gently:
- Use washing-up liquid and a soft cloth
- Wash away dyes and oils after use
- Dry the bath after use to stop limescale
- Avoid suction-cup mats
A quick rinse and wipe after use helps, particularly where water is hard, to stop limescale building up.
Leave a peeling coating alone. Water gets under it and the damage spreads, so have it stripped and resurfaced.
What bath re-enamelling costs
Prices start from £350. We price every job individually, from your pictures. What matters most is:
- Access to the area
- What kind of damage it is
- The size and number of damaged areas
- The material and finish
The price reflects the work involved, not where you live. You will see the full price before you book, with nothing added on the day.
Getting a price from pictures
You can take the pictures on your phone, there’s no need for anything special. Just ensure we can see:
- Daylight if possible, and no flash reflection
- Where you are, by postcode
- Something in shot to show the size
- A photo taken from further back
There is no need for us to visit first. Photos are enough for us to price nearly every job: send a close-up, a wider shot and your postcode, and we’ll come back to you with a fixed figure.
Why repair rather than replace?
Replacing the bath means a plumber, lifting out the old bath, re-tiling or making good the walls and several days without a working bathroom. Resurfacing gives the bath a new finish without moving it. Prices start from £350. A repair normally costs much less than people expect, especially compared with replacing and refitting. Photos let us give you the exact figure.
What you get with us
- Everything repaired in place
- Dust sheets down, tidy finish
- Work done at your home or business
- Honest advice, even when it means no job

For landlords and businesses
For developers and builders, we fix damage before handover, so there’s no need to replace a damaged item at the last minute. Several plots can be done in one visit.
We carry out planned and one-off repairs for housing associations and facilities teams. A repair avoids taking out and refitting, which is easier on the people living there.
DIY repairs versus a professional job
What a professional repair adds is preparation, colour matching and finishing. We prepare the area properly, mix the colour on site and polish the finish to match, then guarantee it for a year.
If you do try a kit, read the instructions carefully, ensure the area is clean and completely dry, and give it the full curing time. If it fails, we can still put it right.
What we cannot put right
A repair is not right for every job, for example:
- Damage hidden under a previous coating, until it’s stripped back
- Leaking taps or wastes (a plumber’s job)
- Steel that has corroded right through
Send us pictures and we will tell you honestly.
Surfaces we repair
- Victorian roll-tops
- Basins & shower trays
- Acrylic baths
- Cast iron baths
- Pressed steel baths
Your questions about bath re-enamelling in Westgate
Do you cover the whole of County Durham?
We work UK-wide. Prices don’t change with location.
Can you change the colour of my bath?
Yes. Coloured baths can be resurfaced in white, and the basin and toilet can be done too.
Can you quote from pictures?
Usually, yes. Clear pictures let us give you a fixed price without visiting.
Will there be fumes?
A little, during the work. We set up ventilation and the smell fades as it cures.
How long will the bath be out of use?
Usually one day, with the bath ready the following day. Deeply pitted baths may need a second day.
Do you charge for travel?
There’s no separate call-out charge. Your fixed price includes everything.
Do you come to Westgate?
Yes. We work across the UK and come to Westgate and the rest of County Durham. Send photos and we’ll quote, or call 0345 017 0787.
Will the bath be moved?
No. We resurface it in place, so the tiles and taps stay put.
