Materials and what they mean for the repair

Cast iron

A cast iron bath is heavy enough that most people never want to move it. Only the enamel surface wears or chips, and that’s the part we put right.

Pressed steel

Steel baths re-enamel well, as long as any rust is dealt with first. Rust around the waste is common on steel, so we check it carefully.

Bath re-enamelling in Wisley without replacing anything

After re-enamelling, the bath has a smooth, glossy, new-looking surface, without any of the disruption of replacing it. It suits anyone happy with the bathroom apart from the bath. Typical jobs include thin, worn enamel in places and a roll-top that’s seen better days, across Victorian roll-tops, cast iron baths and acrylic baths.

We stand behind the work with a one-year guarantee.

When a repair isn’t the answer

We will always be straight with you, so here’s what a repair can’t fix:

  • Anything hidden under an old coating, until we remove it
  • A poorly supported acrylic bath, until it’s firmed up
  • A cast iron or steel bath that’s cracked right through

If in doubt, send pictures and we will say what we think.

Surfaces we repair

  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Cast iron baths
  • Pressed steel baths
  • Basins & shower trays
  • Acrylic baths

What happens on the day

Your technician turns up when we said we would, introduces themselves and checks the damage against your photos first. The floor and nearby surfaces are covered before we open a single tin. Most visits take most of the day, and we leave the room as we found it.

  1. We check the bath and agree the finish with you.
  2. Everything around the bath is masked and covered.
  3. We degrease the bath, fix any damage and key the surface.
  4. Primer and finish coats are applied.
  5. The masking comes off, we tidy up and tell you when it can be used.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Let us know which floor the room is on
  • Clear the area around the damage
  • Make sure the area is dry

Keeping it looking good

Looking after the surface is easy, and it makes a real difference:

  • Don’t use the bath until it has fully cured
  • Avoid suction-cup mats
  • Store bottles off the bath
  • Wipe the bath dry after use in hard water areas

The first few days matter most: let it cure fully, then use mild cleaners only. From then on, avoid abrasives and suction mats.

Do not try to scrub a worn bath back to shine. It just wears the enamel further.

DIY repairs versus a professional job

It’s tempting to reach for a kit, but the repairs we redo most frequently are DIY ones that have discoloured or lifted. Getting it right first time is generally cheaper.

What a professional repair adds is preparation, colour matching and finishing. We clean and key the area properly, mix the colour to your surface and finish it to the same sheen, then guarantee it for a year.

What bath re-enamelling costs

Prices start from £350. Quotes are free and the price is fixed. What we take into account:

  • Access to the area
  • What the surface is made of
  • How much damage there is
  • The type of damage

We charge the same wherever you are, so there’s no premium for Wisley. What changes the price is the job itself: how much damage, what it’s made of and how many items.

Send photos for a quote

You can usually get a fixed price without us visiting. To help us price it:

  • Daylight if possible, and no flash reflection

  • A clear, close picture of the problem area
  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit

To get a price, send a couple of pictures using our quote form or ring us. We will say immediately if a repair is the right fix.

Wisley questions

How do I book?

Use the quote form or ring 0345 017 0787, and we’ll take it from there.

Will there be a smell?

Some materials have a smell while they’re applied, which is why we ventilate. It clears as the materials cure.

Can you re-enamel a roll-top bath?

Yes, frequently. We resurface the inside, and the outside can be refinished too.

Does re-enamelling smell?

Yes, while we are applying the finish. Ventilation keeps it down, and it fades as the finish cures.

Can you redo someone else’s repair?

Yes, we often do. Removing the old work can add time, and that’s in the quote.

How long will the bath be out of use?

Normally one day, with the bath ready the next day. A badly pitted bath can need a second day.

Will the new finish last?

A well-prepared finish lasts a long time if it’s looked after. Gentle cleaning, no suction mats.

Do you need to take the bath out?

No. It’s re-enamelled where it stands, so nothing else is disturbed.

Repair or replace in Wisley?

A new bath means a plumber, lifting out the old bath, re-tiling or making good the walls and several days without a working bathroom. Re-enamelling gives the bath a new finish without moving it. Resurfacing from £350, with every job priced individually. Most people are surprised how affordable a repair is, especially compared with replacing and refitting. Send pictures and we will give you the exact figure.
