Your questions about bath re-enamelling in Woodlands

Do you come to Woodlands?

Yes. We work across the UK and come to Woodlands. Send pictures and we’ll quote, or call 0345 017 0787.

Is it OK to have pets in the house?

Yes, as long as they stay out of the room we are working in. We’ll let you know when it’s safe to use again.

Do you work for landlords and businesses?

Yes. We work for landlords, agents, builders and businesses as well as homeowners across Kent.

Are you a vetted contractor?

We hold CHAS, Constructionline, SafeContractor, SMAS Worksafe and Builder’s Profile accreditations.

How long will the bath be out of use?

Normally a day, then it’s ready to use the following day. A badly pitted bath can need a second day.

Does the bath have to be removed?

No, it stays where it is. We work on the bath in place, with the room masked and ventilated.

Do I need to be at home?

Someone needs to let us in and show us the job. After that, you can carry on with your day.

Will it make a mess?

We protect the room with dust sheets and masking first, and tidy up before we leave.

Bath re-enamelling in Woodlands without replacing anything

A re-enamelled bath looks and feels like a new one, but without the cost and upheaval of a refit. It suits anyone happy with the bathroom apart from the bath. Common call-outs are for an outdated colour you’d like to change and an old resurfacing that’s failing, on Victorian roll-tops, cast iron baths and acrylic baths.

A one-year guarantee comes as standard, so you’re covered after the visit.

How the visit works

We work cleanly and quietly. We protect the area first, then the work takes the best part of a day. At the end we talk you through the curing time and the aftercare.

  1. First we protect the bathroom and set up ventilation.
  2. Next we degrease the bath and fix chips and rust spots.
  3. We prepare the surface and apply a bonding primer.
  4. Several coats of new finish are sprayed on.
  5. Once cured, normally by the following day, the bath is ready.

Before we arrive

  • Let us know about parking or access
  • Keep a parking space free if you can
  • Plan for the room to be out of bounds to pets and children

Different materials, different repairs

Acrylic

Acrylic is light and warm to the touch, but it relies on good support. Cracks are strengthened from behind before the front is finished.

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are so heavy that repairing in place makes obvious sense. Only the enamel surface wears or chips, and that is what we repair.

Woodlands and the surrounding area

Woodlands is about 4 miles north-east of Sevenoaks, in Kent. Whether you are in the middle of Woodlands or on the outskirts, we offer exactly the same service: fixed prices, tidy work and a one-year guarantee. Woodlands is one of 922 towns and villages in Kent we cover. You can also see our page for London, about 19 miles away.

All of TN15 is within our area, from the main roads to the quietest streets. We also cover the places around Woodlands: Cotman's Ash (1 mile south-west), Knatts Valley (1 mile north), Romney Street (1 mile north-west), East Hill (1 mile north) and Heaverham (1 mile south). We also work in nearby towns such as Maidstone (13 miles east), Dartford (8 miles north), Sevenoaks (4 miles south-west), Royal Tunbridge Wells (13 miles south), Gravesend (9 miles north-east) and Tonbridge (9 miles south).

Near you in Woodlands

We visit homes around Church of Saint Mary the Virgin, The Rising Sun pub and Kemsing Down. For rail, the closest station is Kemsing station, roughly 1.8 miles south. Other landmarks nearby include Sevenoaks Hospital (3.3 miles south-west) and Kemsing Castle Bank (1.4 miles south-west).

Honest limits

We’d rather lose a job than do one that will not last, so these are the limits:

  • A metal bath with a through crack
  • An acrylic bath that flexes badly underfoot
  • Steel that has corroded right through

Send us photos and we will tell you honestly.

Materials we repair

  • Basins & shower trays
  • Acrylic baths
  • Pressed steel baths
  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Cast iron baths

Why repair rather than replace?

A refit takes several trades and several days. Resurfacing is one technician, normally in a day, and the bath can be used the day after. Prices start from £350. Our prices are the same across the UK, so there’s no premium for Woodlands. What changes the price is the job itself: how much damage, what it’s made of and how many items.

Why choose Surface Doctor in Woodlands

  • Straight answers about what a repair can do
  • Fixed prices from your photos
  • We come to you, anywhere in the UK
  • Colour mixed on the day to match

What bath re-enamelling costs

Resurfacing from £350. We charge the same across the UK, including Woodlands. The price reflects:

  • How many areas need work
  • The material and finish
  • Previous DIY repairs that have to come out
  • Unusual colours or finishes

Compared with replacing, a repair is usually a fraction of the price, because nothing has to be taken out, refitted or made good. Your fixed quote shows exactly what’s included.

Quotes from your pictures

You can take the photos on your phone, there’s no need for anything special. Make sure they show:

  • Daylight if possible, and no flash reflection
  • Any details about the material
  • Any earlier repairs or coatings
  • Something in shot to show the size

There’s no need for us to visit first. Nearly every job can be priced from photos: send a close-up, a wider shot and your postcode, and we’ll come back to you with a fixed figure.

What we’re called out for in Woodlands

Hard water speeds up the wear, and abrasive cleaners do the most damage.

You may need us if you’ve spotted:

  • An original cast iron bath that needs restoring
  • Several chips and rust patches
  • Thin, worn enamel in places
  • An outdated colour you’d like to change

What to look for in a quote

  • How soon you can use it again
  • What happens if they find more damage
  • Whether the price covers travel
  • How the colour is matched

Our hiring checklist

For landlords and businesses

We’re used to working with agents and managing companies. Send the address, pictures and access details and we will handle the rest.

Letting agents frequently send us pictures straight from the inventory. That means we can quote before you even visit the property, and we liaise with tenants about access if you’d like us to.

DIY kit or professional repair?

You can buy a DIY kit for most repairs, and they can tidy up a tiny mark. The trouble is colour and preparation: kits come in a few standard shades, and without proper cleaning and keying the filler frequently lifts.

For a hairline mark somewhere you’ll never see, a kit may be enough. For damage in plain view, cracks, holes or rust, or coloured finishes, a professional repair is worth it.
