Your questions about bath re-enamelling in Y Drenewydd
Can you repair several things at once?
Of course, and it generally saves money. Just add the extra items to your photos and you’ll get one combined price.
How durable is a resurfaced bath?
That depends on preparation and how the bath is treated. Properly prepared and looked after, it lasts well, and it’s guaranteed for a year.
Will it make a mess?
We protect the room with dust sheets and masking first, and we clean up when we have finished.
Is my repair covered?
All our work carries our one-year guarantee. We’ll explain what it covers when we quote.
Will there be fumes?
A little, during the work. We set up ventilation and the smell fades as it cures.
Do you come to Y Drenewydd?
Yes. We work across the UK and come to Y Drenewydd. Send us pictures for a fixed quote, or call 0345 017 0787.
Do the materials smell?
It depends on the job, but often a little. Open windows and an extractor fan help.
Which areas do you work in?
We work UK-wide, so Y Drenewydd is covered. Prices don’t change with location.
Bath re-enamelling in Y Drenewydd without replacing anything
Re-enamelling gives a worn bath a new glossy surface without a refit. It’s the answer when the entire bath is tired rather than one spot. Whether it’s a bath in a colour that no longer suits and an original cast iron bath that needs restoring, we can generally put it right, whatever the material.
The work is guaranteed for twelve months. If something is not right in that time, we come back and put it right.

How to care for the repair
So the finish stays in good condition:
- Avoid suction-cup mats
- Don’t use the bath until it has fully cured
- A quick wipe after use keeps limescale away
- Rinse off hair dye, oils and bath bombs right away
Give the finish its full curing time before using the bath. After that, a soft cloth and washing-up liquid is all it needs.
Don’t try to scrub a worn bath back to shine. It just wears the enamel further.
Repairs by material
Cast iron
Cast iron baths are the classic candidate for re-enamelling. They’re built to last, and only the surface wears, so a new finish makes them look new again.
Pressed steel
Pressed steel baths take a new finish well, as long as any rust is dealt with first. Steel often rusts by the plughole, so we pay close attention there.
The process
Once we are through the door, we keep the work contained to the one room. We mask off everything nearby, the work takes most of the day, and we finish with a tidy-up and a look at the finished work together.
- The room is masked, protected and ventilated.
- We clean and degrease the bath and repair any chips or rust.
- We key the surface and put on a bonding primer.
- We spray on the new enamel finish in several coats.
- We leave it to cure, and it’s generally ready the next day.
Getting ready for the visit
- Let us know which floor the room is on
- Mention any earlier repairs or resurfacing
- Ensure the area is dry

Advice
When to call us in Y Drenewydd
Older baths frequently have several problems at once: dull areas, chips, rust and staining. Re-enamelling deals with all of them in one go.
These are the problems we are asked about most:
- A coloured bath you want in white
- Staining under the taps and around the waste
- A roll-top that is seen better days
- Worn patches where water runs and sits
Questions to ask before booking
- Whether the price covers travel
- What the guarantee covers, and for how long
- Aftercare advice
- Who will actually do the work
Honest limits
Not everything can be repaired, and we would rather say so up front. We can’t fix:
- Damage hidden under a previous coating, until it’s stripped back
- Plumbing leaks, which need a plumber
- A bath split right through the body
Send us photos and we’ll tell you honestly before booking.
What we work on
- Acrylic baths
- Basins & shower trays
- Pressed steel baths
- Victorian roll-tops
- Cast iron baths
DIY kit or professional repair?
What a professional repair adds is preparation, colour matching and finishing. We prepare the area properly, mix the colour on site and polish the finish to match, then guarantee it for a year.
DIY kits are sold for most surfaces, and they can make a small mark look better. Where they fall down is colour and preparation: they come in a handful of shades, and if the surface isn’t prepared the repair won’t last.
Should you replace it?
If the bath is sound, re-enamelling is normally much cheaper than replacing it, once you add removal, plumbing, tiling and decorating to the price of a new bath. It’s much quicker too. Prices start from £350. We do not add extras on the day. The price we quote from your photos is the price you pay, and if the damage turns out to be different, we discuss it before starting.
