Bath repair in Alnwickhill

About our bath repair in Alnwickhill

Whether your bath is steel, cast iron or acrylic, we can repair it. The method changes with the material: rust is treated on metal baths, while cracks in acrylic are reinforced from underneath. If you’re dealing with damage done while the bathroom was being fitted and cracks in an acrylic bath, we can usually put it right, on pressed steel enamel, acrylic and cast iron enamel alike.

The work is guaranteed for twelve months. If something is not right in that time, we come back and put it right.

What affects the price in Alnwickhill

Repairs from £95. Quotes are free and the price is fixed. What we take into account:

  • Unusual colours or finishes
  • What the surface is made of
  • Whether it’s a chip, crack, burn or wear
  • How many items we do on one visit

Rather than charging by the hour, we fix the price before we start. It depends on the damage, the material and access.

How to get a fixed price

Photographing the damage takes a minute, and it saves a visit. Please include:

  • What it’s made of, if you know
  • Good light, ideally daylight, without flash glare
  • Your postcode, so we can check dates
  • A wider photo showing the whole bath

Most customers in Alnwickhill get their price from pictures. Tell us what happened and where you are, and we’ll reply with a fixed quote and the earliest dates we have.

Alnwickhill: your questions answered

Does someone need to be in?

Yes. We need access to the room while we work, at a time we agree with you.

Do you work in Alnwickhill?

Yes. We work across the UK and come to Alnwickhill and the rest of Edinburgh. Send photos and we’ll quote, or call 0345 017 0787.

Can rust on a bath be repaired?

Yes. We remove the rust and loose enamel, seal and fill the area, then colour-match the finish.

Do you cover the entire of Edinburgh?

The entire UK, including all of Edinburgh. Just include your postcode and we will offer you dates.

Do you repair coloured baths?

Yes. We mix the colour on the day to match, including older coloured suites.

Something went through my bath. Can it be fixed?

In most cases. Send us a picture of the hole and one from under the bath if you can.

Is it messy?

We protect the room with dust sheets and masking first, and we clean up when we’ve finished.

Will I be able to see the repair?

We aim for a repair you cannot easily find. How well it disappears depends on the condition of the rest of the bath.

The process

We begin by going over the job with you, so you know exactly what we’re doing. Next, we cover and mask everything nearby and we start. It normally takes two to three hours for most chips.

  1. Dust sheets and masking go down around the bath.
  2. We clean, key and degrease the damage.
  3. Filler goes in and is sanded flush once it has set.
  4. We match both the colour and the shine.
  5. We clear up and give you the curing time, normally until the day after.

Before we arrive

  • Mention any earlier repairs or resurfacing
  • Let us know which floor the room is on
  • Plan for the room to be out of bounds to pets and children

Getting a price

A quote takes minutes to ask for: photograph the damage, then the entire bath, add your postcode and send them over. What comes back is a fixed quote, not a guess.

Should I try a DIY kit first?

If you do try a kit, read the instructions carefully, ensure the area is clean and completely dry, and do not use it until it has fully cured. If it doesn’t work out, we can still repair it properly.

If you’ve already tried a DIY fix, that is fine. We remove the old filler and start again, so it doesn’t stop a professional repair. It does add a little time, so tell us about it when you send photos.

Different materials, different repairs

Cast iron

Cast iron is heavy and rigid, finished with fired enamel. Chips can rust if left, but the bath itself lasts for generations, so it’s always worth repairing.

Pressed steel

Steel baths and trays have a thin metal body under the enamel. Exposed steel rusts quickly, so the metal is treated and sealed before the repair.

Keeping it looking good

It’s all simple stuff:

  • If an acrylic bath flexes, have its feet adjusted
  • Have new chips seen to early
  • Put a towel in the bath if you are working above it
  • Fix dripping taps early to stop staining and limescale

Care for the repair the same way as the bath: warm water, washing-up liquid and a soft cloth. Avoid scourers and gritty cream cleaners.

Until we visit, a strip of waterproof tape over the damage helps, so water can’t get in. Remove it before the repair.

Repair or replace: which is better?

A new bath brings a chain of other jobs: tiles along the rim normally crack when it comes out, the panel may not fit the new one, and a plumber has to disconnect and reconnect everything. Repairing the damage avoids all of that. Our bath repair starts from £95. No two jobs are quite the same, so we price each one individually. The size and type of damage, the material and access all play a part, and combining jobs on one visit brings the cost down.
