Bath repair in Arniston, done in place

It pays to repair bath damage while it’s small. On steel and cast iron, exposed metal starts to rust, and on acrylic, a crack keeps spreading while the bath flexes. A repair stops both. Common call-outs are for deep scratches in acrylic and chips under the taps, on whirlpool & spa baths, pressed steel enamel and cast iron enamel.

We stand behind the work with a one-year guarantee, so you are not left on your own once we have gone.

Arniston: your questions answered

What information do you need?

A close-up, a wider photo and your postcode. Then we will agree a date.

Do you repair coloured baths?

Yes, we match coloured baths too. The colour is tinted by hand on the day.

Can pets and children be at home?

Yes, as long as they stay out of the room we are working in. We’ll let you know when it’s safe to use again.

Can you do more than one item on the same visit?

Yes. Combining jobs on one visit brings the cost down. Include photos of each item.

Can you repair a failed DIY repair?

Yes, we do this frequently. We strip it out, deal with any rust and repair it again.

What about rust by the waste?

Yes, very often. We take it back to sound metal, seal it, fill it and match the colour.

How invisible is a bath repair?

On a bath in good condition, a colour matched repair is very hard to spot. On older, dull enamel the repair can look glossier than the area around it.

Is repairing better than replacing?

Generally, yes. A repair skips the removal, fitting and redecorating. We will be honest if it’s not worth it.

Honest limits

A few problems are outside what a surface repair can do:

  • A bath worn all over, where resurfacing makes more sense
  • Metal that has corroded all the way through
  • Flexing caused by a failed cradle or loose feet

If in doubt, send photos and we’ll say what we think.

What we work on

  • Cast iron enamel
  • Acrylic
  • Pressed steel enamel
  • Whirlpool & spa baths
  • Roll-top & freestanding

What affects the price in Arniston

Repairs from £95. You’ll know the full cost before booking. We look at:

  • How easy the damage is to reach
  • How many items we do on one visit
  • Whether old repairs or coatings need taking off
  • Unusual colours or finishes

No two jobs are quite the same, so each one is priced on its own. What’s damaged, how badly and how easy it is to reach all make a difference, and combining jobs on one visit brings the cost down.

Quotes from your pictures

Almost every job we do is priced from pictures. This is what to send:

  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit
  • Details of any past repairs
  • A photo taken from further back
  • A coin beside the damage so we can judge size

The quickest way to a price is to send two or three photos through our quote form or ring us. We will tell you honestly if a repair is the right fix.

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Cast iron

Cast iron is heavy and rigid, finished with fired enamel. Chips can rust if left, but the body of the bath lasts a very long time, which makes it well worth repairing.

Acrylic

Acrylic baths are moulded sheet reinforced underneath. There is no rust, but cracks, holes and scratches happen, and a crack only stays repaired if it’s supported underneath.

Can I fix it myself?

If you do try a kit, read the instructions carefully and work on a clean, dry surface, and don’t use it until it has fully cured. If it fails, we can still put it right.

What a professional repair adds is preparation, colour matching and finishing. We prepare the area properly, mix the colour on site and polish the finish to match, then guarantee it for a year.

Keeping it looking good

Nothing complicated is needed, just a few sensible habits:

  • Have new chips seen to early
  • Use a soft cloth and washing-up liquid for everyday cleaning
  • Protect the bath with a towel when doing jobs nearby
  • Ensure an acrylic bath is firm underfoot

Leave the repair to cure for as long as we say before running a bath. From then on, mild cleaning is all it needs.

Avoid standing in a cracked acrylic bath until it’s fixed. Every use opens the crack a little more, and water can get through to the floor below.

Should you replace it?

When the bath is otherwise sound, repairing beats replacing. It costs less, takes less time and causes far less upheaval, and you keep the bath you chose. Where the whole surface is tired, we may suggest re-enamelling instead. Our bath repair starts from £95. There are no surprise extras on the day. What we quote from your pictures is what you pay, and if the damage turns out to be different, we discuss it before starting.

What happens on the day

Here’s how a visit normally runs: we arrive at the agreed slot, sheet and mask the area around the job, carry out the work and clear up. Plan for a few hours from start to finish. Before we go, we’ll explain how long to leave it and what to avoid for the first few days.

  1. We start by looking at the damage and confirming the plan with you.
  2. Any rust and loose material comes out, and the area is degreased.
  3. We build up the filler in layers, shaping it to the bath.
  4. We tint the finish by hand to match the bath.
  5. The repair is polished to the same gloss as the bath and left to cure.

Preparing for the visit

  • Make sure the area is dry
  • Keep a parking space free if you can
  • Keep pets and children out of the room while we work
