About our bath repair in Ashby

We repair enamelled steel, cast iron and acrylic baths. Each material is repaired a little differently: rust is treated on metal baths, while cracks in acrylic are reinforced from underneath. Typical jobs include a failed DIY repair that’s discoloured or lifting and scratches you can feel with a fingernail, across acrylic, pressed steel enamel and whirlpool & spa baths.

Every repair comes with our one-year guarantee.

Rusty chip next to a bath plughole, before and after repair

Looking after it afterwards

How the surface is treated afterwards matters:

  • Put a towel in the bath if you are working above it
  • Fix dripping taps early to stop staining and limescale
  • Stick to mild cleaners and a soft cloth
  • Give the bath a quick rinse after use

For the first few days, keep heavy bottles off the repaired spot. After that, clean it as you would the rest of the bath.

Don’t leave a chip on a steel or cast iron bath. Water gets to the metal and rust starts, turning a quick repair into a bigger one.

How the visit works

Nothing needs to be moved out of the room beforehand. We bring everything we need with us, lay protective sheets and get going once we’ve agreed what we are doing. Most jobs take a morning or an afternoon, and you can get on with other things while we are there.

  1. Dust sheets and masking go down around the bath.
  2. We clean, key and degrease the damage, and any rust is treated.
  3. We fill it, let it set, then sand it flush.
  4. We match both the colour and the shine.
  5. We clear up and give you the curing time, normally until the following day.

Before we arrive

  • Ensure the area is dry
  • Keep children and pets away from the room on the day
  • Have a window or extractor fan available

Advice

Repairing versus replacing in Ashby

Swapping a damaged bath for a new one normally means a plumber, lifting out the old bath, making good the tiles and panel and getting rid of the old bath. Repairing it fixes just the damaged area in a single visit. Our bath repair starts from £95. It helps to know what pushes a price up or down: access, material, the extent of the damage and whether we can do several items together. Photos let us give you a fixed figure.

Why us?

  • Rooms protected and left tidy
  • Nothing taken out or refitted
  • Free fixed quotes from pictures
  • Colour mixed on the day to match

Can I fix it myself?

The difference between a kit and a professional repair is mostly in the preparation and colour. We prepare the area properly, mix the colour on site and polish the finish to match, then guarantee it for a year.

It’s natural to want to try a repair yourself. The risk is that a kit repair hides the damage for a while, then fails, and the old filler has to come out before a proper repair.

How we price bath repair

Repairs from £95. We do not charge extra for travel to Ashby. The price comes down to:

  • What kind of damage it is
  • Whether old repairs or coatings need taking off
  • The material
  • How many areas need work

The price depends on the type and amount of damage, the material and how many items we do on one visit. You get a fixed price from your photos, so there are no surprises on the day.

Getting a price from photos

You can take the pictures on your phone, there is no need for anything special. Ensure they show:

  • Where you are, by postcode
  • A close-up of the damage, in focus
  • A picture taken from further back
  • What it’s made of, if you know

No survey visit is needed: we price from pictures. Send them through the quote form, or call 0345 017 0787 if you’d rather talk it through, and we will come back with a fixed figure.

FAQs for Ashby

Is there any odour?

It depends on the job, but often a little. Ventilation keeps it to a minimum, and it soon fades.

Will I be able to see the repair?

On a glossy bath, you’ll struggle to find it. On worn enamel, it can look shinier than the rest.

Can you repair a failed DIY repair?

Regularly. The old material comes out, any rust is treated, then we repair it properly.

Are you a vetted contractor?

We’re accredited with CHAS, Constructionline, SafeContractor, SMAS Worksafe and Builder’s Profile.

Is it safe with children and pets around?

Yes, as long as they stay out of the room we are working in. We’ll let you know when it’s safe to use again.

Do you work for landlords and businesses?

Yes, often. We quote for multiple addresses and fit around tenancy changeovers.

Is a repair better than a new one?

Normally, when the rest is in good condition. A repair avoids removal and making good. If replacing would be better, we’ll say so.

Can I add another job to the visit?

Yes. Combining jobs on one visit brings the cost down. Send pictures of everything you’d like done.

Repairs by material

Pressed steel

Steel baths and trays have a thin metal body under the enamel. Once a chip exposes it, rust follows quickly, so the metal is treated and sealed before the repair.

Acrylic

Acrylic baths are moulded sheet reinforced underneath. There is no rust, but cracks, holes and scratches happen, and a crack only stays repaired if it’s supported underneath.

What we can’t put right

To be straight with you, some problems need a different fix:

  • Metal that has corroded all the way through
  • A bath worn all over, where resurfacing makes more sense
  • Flexing caused by a failed cradle or loose feet

If in doubt, send photos and we’ll say what we think before booking.

Work for landlords and builders

We are used to working with agents and managing companies. Send the address, pictures and access details.

Letting agents frequently send us pictures straight from the inventory. You can have a price before you arrange access, and we can arrange access with the tenant directly if that helps.
