About our bath repair in Birtley Green

A damaged bath does not have to mean a new bathroom. Our repair technicians fill, shape and refinish the damage, mixing the colour on the day so the repair is hard to spot. Our technicians work on cast iron enamel, whirlpool & spa baths and pressed steel enamel, and the jobs we see most are an old repair that has yellowed or come loose and damage done while the bathroom was being fitted.

Peace of mind is built in: our one-year guarantee applies to every job, and we explain what it covers before you book.

Rusty chip next to a bath plughole, before and after repair

How we price bath repair

Repairs from £95. Every quote is fixed and free. What we look at:

  • The colour and finish to match
  • How easy the damage is to reach
  • The material and finish
  • How many areas need work

Rather than charging by the hour, we price the entire job up front. It depends on the damage, the material and access.

Send photos for a quote

A couple of clear pictures is all it takes. It helps if you send:

  • Something in shot to show the size
  • Any details about the material
  • Good light, ideally daylight, without flash glare
  • Any earlier repairs or coatings

Getting a price is easy: take a close-up of the damage and a photo from further back, send them over with your postcode, and we’ll reply with a fixed quote. Quotes are free and no obligation.

Work for landlords and builders

Repair or replace: which is better?

When the bath is otherwise sound, repairing beats replacing. It costs less, takes less time and causes far less upheaval, and you keep the bath you chose. Where the entire surface is tired, we may suggest re-enamelling instead. Our bath repair starts from £95. Every job is a little different, so we price each one individually. What’s damaged, how badly and how easy it is to reach all play a part, and combining jobs on one visit brings the cost down.

Birtley Green questions

What if the damage is worse than the pictures show?

We will show you and explain before doing anything extra. Nothing extra is done without your say-so.

Will the repair last?

A properly prepared repair should last a long time, and ours come with a one-year guarantee. Gentle cleaning helps it last.

Can you repair a crack in an acrylic bath?

Most of the time. We reinforce the crack from behind, then fill and refinish the front, so we need access under the bath.

It’s been repaired before. Can you still fix it?

Generally, yes. Tell us what was done before and we will plan for it.

Is it OK to have pets in the house?

We ask you to keep children and pets out of the room while we work and until it has cured. Everywhere else in the home is fine.

Can you repair several things at once?

Of course, and it generally saves money. Just add the extra items to your pictures and we’ll quote them together.

What happens once I’ve sent pictures?

We come back with a fixed price, typically with dates to choose from. You are under no obligation.

Do you do work for letting agents?

Yes, often. We quote for multiple addresses and fit around tenancy changeovers.

Honest limits

Honesty matters more than a booking, so here’s what a repair won’t do:

  • Flexing caused by a failed cradle or loose feet
  • Cracks in acrylic we cannot reach from underneath
  • A steel bath rusted through

If in doubt, send pictures and we’ll say what we think.

Materials we repair

  • Whirlpool & spa baths
  • Pressed steel enamel
  • Roll-top & freestanding
  • Acrylic
  • Cast iron enamel

What your bath is made of matters

Pressed steel

Steel baths are lighter than cast iron, but have a similar enamel surface. Chips rust quickly on steel, particularly by the plughole, so repair chips early.

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are thick and very strong, with a fused enamel surface. Chips can rust if left, but the bath itself lasts for generations, which makes it well worth repairing.

How to care for the repair

Aftercare is simple, and it makes a real difference:

  • Store metal items away from the bath
  • Check that an acrylic bath doesn’t move when you stand in it
  • Stick to mild cleaners and a soft cloth
  • Rinse the bath after use, especially in hard water areas

In the first few days, avoid putting weight or bottles on the repair. After that, normal gentle cleaning is fine without abrasive products.

A chip on a metal bath shouldn’t be left. Once water reaches the metal, rust begins, turning a quick repair into a bigger one.

How the visit works

On the day itself, there’s little for you to do. Let us in and show us the room, and we will take it from there. The job generally runs to a morning or an afternoon, tidy-up included.

  1. We clean the area and remove any loose enamel or rust.
  2. Next we fill the damage and sand it smooth and level.
  3. The colour is mixed on the spot to match your bath.
  4. Finish coats go on, then the repair is polished to blend in.
  5. We leave it to cure; you can generally use the bath the day after.

Before we arrive

  • Let us know if it has been repaired before
  • Make sure the area is dry
  • Mention if the room is upstairs or in a flat

DIY kit or professional repair?

For a hairline mark somewhere you’ll never see, a kit may be enough. For damage in plain view, cracks, holes or rust, or coloured finishes, it’s worth having it done properly.

If you do try a kit, read the instructions carefully and work on a clean, dry surface, and give it the full curing time. If it fails, we can still put it right.
