How we handle bath repair in Blackness

Whether your bath is steel, cast iron or acrylic, we can repair it. The method changes with the material: metal baths need any rust dealt with first, and acrylic cracks need support from behind. If you’re dealing with scuffs and scratches in the surface and a chipped rim or side, we can usually put it right, on acrylic, pressed steel enamel and whirlpool & spa baths alike.

We stand behind the work with a one-year guarantee, so you’re covered after the visit.

When we’d advise against a repair

A few problems are outside what a surface repair can do:

  • Leaks from the waste or overflow fittings (a plumber’s job)
  • Flexing caused by a failed cradle or loose feet
  • Cracks in parts of an acrylic bath we cannot get to from below

Send us photos and we’ll tell you honestly.

Materials we repair

  • Acrylic
  • Pressed steel enamel
  • Whirlpool & spa baths
  • Roll-top & freestanding
  • Cast iron enamel

What happens on the day

We work cleanly and quietly, so you can stay at home while we are there. Protection goes down first, then the work takes a few hours. Before we leave, we explain how soon it can be used and how to care for it.

  1. First, we check the damage against your photos and agree the plan.
  2. Loose enamel, rust and dirt are removed so the repair can bond.
  3. The damage is filled in layers and shaped to the curve of the bath.
  4. We tint the finish by hand to match the bath.
  5. Finally, it’s polished to match the shine and left to cure.

Repairs from £95, with every job priced individually. The price depends on the type and amount of damage, what it’s made of and how many items we do on one visit. We give a fixed quote from your pictures, so you know the cost before booking.

Repairs by material

Acrylic

Acrylic is light and warm to the touch, but it relies on good support. Repairs to cracks are reinforced from the back.

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are thick and very strong, finished with fired enamel. A chip down to the iron can rust, but the bath itself lasts for generations, which makes it well worth repairing.

Can I fix it myself?

It’s natural to want to try a repair yourself. The risk is that a kit repair hides the damage for a while, then fails, and then the old filler has to be removed first.

A kit can be fine for a tiny mark out of sight. For anything you look at every day, anything that has rusted, cracked or holed, or anything on a coloured surface, it’s worth having it done properly.

For landlords and businesses

For developers and builders, we fix damage before handover. Several plots can be done in one visit to keep costs down.

Letting agents frequently send us pictures straight from the inventory. You can have a price before you arrange access, and we liaise with tenants about access if you’d like us to.

Questions from Blackness

Will there be a smell?

Expect a mild smell while we’re working.

Is a bath repair durable?

Done properly, a repair lasts for years, and it’s guaranteed for a year. Gentle cleaning helps it last.

Will the repair show?

The goal is a repair that blends in. How well it disappears depends on the condition of the rest of the bath, and we will tell you what to expect.

Is the work guaranteed?

Every repair comes with a one-year guarantee. We’ll explain what it covers when we quote.

Is there a call-out fee?

We do not add a call-out fee. The fixed price covers the visit and the work.

Does someone need to be in?

Yes. We need access to the room while we work, at a time we agree with you.

Do you work in Blackness?

We do. Repair technicians travel to Blackness from across the region, with no extra charge for travel.

Can you repair a crack in an acrylic bath?

Often, yes, if we can reach the underside to reinforce it. Check under the bath panel, or send us a picture.

Looking after it afterwards

Most damage we see is avoidable. A few tips:

  • Ensure an acrylic bath is firm underfoot
  • Protect the bath with a towel when doing jobs nearby
  • Use a soft cloth and washing-up liquid for everyday cleaning
  • Rinse it down after each bath

There’s nothing special to do after a repair, just sensible cleaning. Skip bleach and gritty creams.

A small chip is a quick job. Leave them and they collect dirt, stain and, on metal baths, rust, so early repair saves time and money.

What we are called out for in Blackness

Rust tends to begin where water collects, around the waste, under the taps or in an old chip. Once water reaches the steel or iron, rust spreads under the enamel.

Typical reasons for a call-out include:

  • Cracks in an acrylic bath
  • Deep scratches in acrylic
  • Damage beneath the taps
  • A kit repair that didn’t last
