Your questions about bath repair in Blacktoft

Do you cover the whole of East Riding of Yorkshire?

Everywhere in the UK, Blacktoft included. Travel is included in the price.

Is repairing better than replacing?

In most cases, yes. A repair skips the removal, fitting and redecorating. If it is not worth repairing, we’ll tell you.

It’s been repaired before. Can you still fix it?

Usually, yes. The old repair comes out first, so let us know about it.

Do you repair coloured baths?

Yes. We mix the colour on the day to match, including older coloured suites.

Can a cracked acrylic bath be fixed?

Most of the time. We reinforce the crack from behind, then fill and refinish the front, so we need access under the bath.

I tried a repair kit. Can you fix it?

Yes. We take out the old repair and do it properly. Tell us about it when you send pictures.

Do you come to Blacktoft?

Yes. We cover the entire UK and travel to Blacktoft and the rest of East Riding of Yorkshire. Send us photos for a fixed quote, or call 0345 017 0787.

Are you a vetted contractor?

We hold CHAS, Constructionline, SafeContractor, SMAS Worksafe and Builder’s Profile accreditations.

Repair or replace in Blacktoft?

Replacing a fitted bath normally involves a plumber, removing the old bath, re-tiling and a new panel and disposing of the old one. Repairing it fixes just the damaged area in one visit. Repairs from £95, with every job priced individually. Every job is a little different, so each one is priced on its own. What’s damaged, how badly and how easy it is to reach all make a difference, and doing several things on one visit costs less than separate visits.

Why Blacktoft clients choose us

  • No need to remove anything
  • Dust sheets down, tidy finish
  • We come to you, anywhere in the UK
  • No extra charge for your area

Work for landlords and builders

Builders use us to fix snagging damage before handover. Several plots can be done in one visit to keep costs down.

Hotels, guest houses and holiday lets need rooms back in use quickly, so we keep visits short and tidy. We will fit around changeovers where we can.

Different materials, different repairs

Acrylic

Acrylic is light and warm to the touch, but it relies on good support. Cracks are strengthened from behind before the front is finished.

Composite and resin

Stone resin and composite baths are heavy and solid, and often freestanding. Chips and scratches can be filled and colour-matched, just like other baths.

When a repair isn’t the answer

We’ll always be straight with you, so here’s what a repair cannot fix:

  • Cracks in parts of an acrylic bath we cannot get to from below
  • A steel bath rusted through
  • Leaking fittings, which need a plumber

If in doubt, send pictures and we will say what we think before you book.

Materials we repair

  • Whirlpool & spa baths
  • Roll-top & freestanding
  • Cast iron enamel
  • Acrylic
  • Pressed steel enamel

Looking after it afterwards

Good habits make a big difference to how long a repair lasts. Here’s what we suggest:

  • Keep abrasive pads and gritty cleaners away from the bath
  • Make sure an acrylic bath is firm underfoot
  • Rinse it down after each bath
  • Clean with warm water and a mild detergent

In the first few days, avoid putting weight or bottles on the repair. After that, clean it as you would the rest of the bath without abrasive products.

Rust spreads under enamel faster than most people expect. Left for months, a small chip can grow into a large rust patch, so early repair keeps the cost down.

The process

It’s a tidy, low-fuss visit. We agree the arrival time in advance, protect the area, and get on with the job, which generally takes a few hours, depending on the damage. If anything looks different from your pictures, we will talk to you before going ahead.

  1. Dust sheets and masking go down around the bath.
  2. We clean, key and degrease the damage, and any rust is treated.
  3. We fill it, let it set, then sand it flush.
  4. We match both the colour and the shine.
  5. We tidy up and tell you when the bath can be used, generally the day after.

Before we arrive

  • Let us know which floor the room is on
  • Mention any earlier repairs or resurfacing
  • Keep pets and children out of the room while we work

How to get a price

DIY repairs versus a professional job

What a professional repair adds is preparation, colour matching and finishing. We clean and key the area properly, mix the colour to your surface and finish it to the same sheen, and the work is guaranteed.

A kit can be fine for a tiny mark out of sight. For damage in plain view, cracks, holes or rust, or coloured finishes, it’s worth having it done properly.

Do you need bath repair in Blacktoft?

Most bath damage comes from something dropped: a shampoo bottle, a shower head, a tile or a tool during a refit. On steel and cast iron baths, any chip down to the metal will start to rust.

Signs it’s time to call us include:

  • Damage done while the bathroom was being fitted
  • Deep scratches in acrylic
  • Hairline or through cracks in acrylic
  • Chips on the rim or sides

What your quote should include

  • The length of the guarantee and what it covers
  • How your room will be protected
  • A fixed quote, and whether VAT is included
  • Whether there are any call-out or travel charges
