Need bath repair in Bourn?

Bath repair in Bourn without replacing anything

It pays to repair bath damage while it’s small. Exposed metal on enamelled baths soon rusts, while cracks in acrylic grow each time the bath moves. Repairing it stops the damage getting worse. We are often asked to fix chips along the edge of the bath and damage beneath the taps, in acrylic, pressed steel enamel and cast iron enamel.

We stand behind the work with a one-year guarantee, so you are not left on your own once we have gone.

What happens on the day

Once we are through the door, we keep the work contained to the one room. We mask off everything nearby, the job takes a few hours, depending on what we find, and we finish with a tidy-up and a look at the finished work together.

  1. We start by cleaning the damage and taking out loose enamel and rust.
  2. We fill the damage and sand it flush with the surrounding surface.
  3. We mix the colour on the day to match your bath’s exact shade.
  4. Finish coats go on, then the repair is polished to blend in.
  5. The repair is left to cure, and most baths can be used the following day.

Repair or replace in Bourn?

Swapping a damaged bath for a new one generally means a plumber, lifting out the old bath, re-tiling and a new panel and getting rid of the old bath. A repair deals only with the damage in one visit. Prices start from £95. No two jobs are quite the same, so we price each one individually. The size and type of damage, the material and access all play a part, and doing several things on one visit costs less than separate visits.

Why us?

  • CHAS and Constructionline accredited
  • Work done at your home or business
  • One price list for the whole UK
  • We leave the room as we found it

How we price bath repair

Repairs from £95. You will not pay by the hour. The price is based on:

  • Whether we combine several jobs
  • How hard the colour is to match
  • What the surface is made of
  • Access to the area

Set against the cost of replacement, a repair is normally a fraction of the price, because nothing has to be taken out, refitted or made good. The quote lists exactly what you are paying for.

Send pictures for a quote

Phone photos are fine, there is no need for anything special. Make sure they show:

  • Daylight if possible, and no flash reflection
  • What it’s made of, if you know
  • One picture of the entire bath
  • Any earlier repairs or coatings

For most jobs, pictures are all we need to give you a price. Add a line about what happened and your postcode, and we’ll send back a fixed quote and some dates.

When we would advise against a repair

We won’t take on work that will not last, so here’s what a repair can’t put right:

  • Leaking fittings, which need a plumber
  • Cracks in parts of an acrylic bath we cannot get to from below
  • Wear across the entire surface, which needs re-enamelling

Send us pictures and we’ll tell you honestly.

What we work on

  • Cast iron enamel
  • Acrylic
  • Pressed steel enamel
  • Roll-top & freestanding
  • Whirlpool & spa baths

DIY repairs versus a professional job

If you are set on a kit, follow its instructions closely, and don’t use it until it has fully cured. If it does not work out, we can still repair it properly.

You can buy a DIY kit for most repairs, and they can tidy up a tiny mark. The trouble is colour and preparation: kits come in a few standard shades, and without proper cleaning and keying the filler often lifts.

Different materials, different repairs

Composite and resin

Stone resin and composite baths are heavy and solid. Chips and scratches can be filled and colour matched, just like other baths.

Cast iron

A cast iron bath is heavy enough that most people never want to move it. Only the enamel surface wears or chips, and that is what we repair.

What we’re called out for in Bourn

Baths take more knocks than people expect: everyday items get dropped into it all the time, and fittings press hard against the enamel. Sooner or later, most baths pick up a chip.

It’s worth getting a quote if you see:

  • Chips caused by builders
  • A chipped rim or side
  • Scratches you can feel with a fingernail
  • Rust spots around the plughole

What to look for in a quote

  • What preparation is included
  • Whether a trained technician does the job
  • What the guarantee covers, and for how long
  • What aftercare is recommended
