Bath repair in Brandiston

How we handle bath repair in Brandiston

Bath repair is our most common job. A chip by the taps, a crack in the base and a rust spot by the plughole are all repaired in place, normally in one visit. Typical jobs include impact holes in acrylic and damage done while the bathroom was being fitted, on acrylic, roll-top & freestanding and pressed steel enamel.

Every job is backed for twelve months in Brandiston and everywhere else. We return to put right any problem with the work.

Can I fix it myself?

If you do try a kit, read the instructions carefully, make sure the area is clean and completely dry, and give it the full curing time. If it does not work out, we can still repair it properly.

Kits are cheap and easy to find, but the repairs we redo most often are DIY ones that have discoloured or lifted. Getting it right first time is normally cheaper.

Repairs by material

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are so heavy that repairing in place makes obvious sense. Only the enamel surface wears or chips, and that is what we repair.

Pressed steel

Steel baths and trays have a thin metal body under the enamel. Exposed steel rusts quickly, so we treat and seal the metal before filling.

What happens on the day

A typical visit goes like this: we arrive on time, protect everything around the work area, do the job and clear up. Plan for two to three hours for most chips. Before leaving, we tell you when it can be used and how to care for it.

  1. We clean the area and remove any loose enamel or rust.
  2. Next we fill the damage and sand it smooth and level.
  3. We mix the colour on the day to match your bath’s exact shade.
  4. We build up the finish and polish it into the surrounding enamel.
  5. Once it has cured, usually by the day after, the bath is ready to use.

Before we arrive

  • Let the surface dry out before the visit
  • Clear toiletries, mats and anything else from around the area
  • Keep children and pets away from the room on the day

Advice

Brandiston: your questions answered

Is it OK to have pets in the house?

On the day, the room should be kept clear of pets and children, mainly so nothing gets touched before it has cured.

How quickly can you book me in?

Your quote comes with available dates. Tell us if you need it done quickly.

Is a holed acrylic bath repairable?

In most cases. Send us a photo of the hole and one from under the bath if you can.

What happens if you find more damage?

We’ll show you and explain before doing anything extra. You will not be charged for anything you haven’t agreed.

Can you repair a chip on a coloured bath?

Yes, coloured baths are no problem. We tint the finish to your bath on site.

Do you charge for travel?

No. Our quotes include travel, with the same prices everywhere we work.

What does bath repair cost?

Repairs from £95. Because every job differs, we price from photos. You know the full cost before anything is booked.

Do I have to be there?

Yes. We need access to the room while we work, at a time we agree with you.

How we price bath repair

Repairs from £95. We charge the same across the UK, including Brandiston. What changes the price is:

  • How hard the colour is to match
  • The material and finish
  • Whether it’s a chip, crack, burn or wear
  • How many items we do on one visit

A repair usually costs much less than people expect, particularly next to the cost of replacement. Send photos and we will give you the exact figure.

How to get a fixed price

Before you send photos, these tips help us give you a firm price:

  • A coin or ruler next to the damage for scale
  • Any details about the material
  • Whether it’s been repaired or coated before
  • One picture of the whole bath

No survey visit is needed: we price from pictures. Use the quote form, or ring 0345 017 0787 to talk it through, and we’ll come back with a fixed figure.

Should you replace it?

Cast iron baths in particular are worth repairing: they’re very heavy to remove, especially upstairs, and a like-for-like replacement can be expensive. A repair keeps it in place. Repairs from £95, with every job priced individually. Every job is a little different, so each one is priced on its own. What’s damaged, how badly and how easy it is to reach all play a part, and doing several things on one visit costs less than separate visits.

Why choose Surface Doctor in Brandiston

  • Usually one visit, start to finish
  • Nothing taken out or refitted
  • Repair technicians who travel to you, UK-wide
  • One-year guarantee on every repair

Read our prices page or resurfacing vs replacement cost guide.

Looking after it afterwards

Nothing complicated is needed, just a few sensible habits:

  • Store metal items away from the bath
  • Stick to mild cleaners and a soft cloth
  • Get any new chip repaired before it rusts
  • If an acrylic bath flexes, have its feet adjusted

Leave the repair to cure for as long as we say before running a bath. From then on, mild cleaning is all it needs.

Rust under enamel spreads surprisingly quickly. A chip the size of a fingernail can become a much larger patch if it’s left for months, so early repair keeps the cost down.

What we can’t put right

Before booking, it’s worth knowing the limits:

  • Rust that has eaten right through a steel bath
  • Cracks in acrylic we can’t reach from underneath
  • A bath that flexes because its feet or cradle have failed (that needs fixing first)

If in doubt, send photos and we’ll say what we think.
