What we are called out for in Brandon

Nearly all the chips we see start with something being dropped: bottles, shower heads, tiles and tools. On enamelled baths, a chip that reaches the metal lets water in, and rust follows.

The most common problems we’re called about are:

  • A chipped rim or side
  • Damage done while the bathroom was being fitted
  • Rust by the waste and overflow
  • Cracks in an acrylic bath

What your quote should include

  • Whether there are any call-out or travel charges
  • How your room will be protected
  • Aftercare advice
  • How long it needs to cure

How we handle bath repair in Brandon

You do not need a new bath because of a chip. Our technicians fill, shape and refinish the damage, mixing the colour on the day. Our technicians work on roll-top & freestanding, whirlpool & spa baths and cast iron enamel, and the jobs we see most are scuffs and scratches in the surface and snagging damage from a refit.

Whatever the size of the job, it’s backed by a one-year guarantee in Brandon and across Warwickshire.

Questions from Brandon

How do I book?

Photos of the damage, a picture of the entire bath and your postcode. After that, we just agree a date.

Can you repair a chip on a coloured bath?

Yes, coloured baths are no problem. The colour is tinted by hand on the day.

Do you hold any accreditations?

We hold CHAS, Constructionline, SafeContractor, SMAS Worksafe and Builder’s Profile accreditations.

Do you work in Brandon?

Yes, we do. Repair technicians travel to Brandon from across the region, and the price is the same as everywhere else.

Can you do more than one item on the same visit?

Yes. Combining jobs on one visit brings the cost down. Send photos of everything you’d like done.

Is it safe with children and pets around?

Please keep children and pets out of the room during the visit and until it has cured. Everywhere else in the home is fine.

Will the price change on the day?

If we find something the photos didn’t show, we explain it first. You decide whether to go ahead.

Do the materials smell?

It depends on the job, but often a little. Open windows and an extractor fan help, and it soon fades.

When a repair is not the answer

In fairness, there are a few things a repair won’t fix:

  • Cracks in parts of an acrylic bath we can’t get to from below
  • Leaks from the waste or overflow fittings (a plumber’s job)
  • A steel bath rusted through

Not sure? Send pictures and we’ll give you a straight answer.

Materials we repair

  • Roll-top & freestanding
  • Pressed steel enamel
  • Cast iron enamel
  • Whirlpool & spa baths
  • Acrylic

Repair or replace in Brandon?

A new bath brings a chain of other jobs: tiles along the rim normally crack when it comes out, a new panel is often needed, and the plumbing has to be disconnected and refitted. A repair skips all of it. Our bath repair starts from £95. A repair typically costs much less than people expect, especially compared with replacing and refitting. Send pictures and we’ll give you the exact figure.

Why Brandon clients choose us

What we do, step by step

A typical visit goes like this: we arrive at the agreed slot, sheet and mask the area around the job, do the job and tidy away. Allow a few hours, depending on the damage from start to finish. Before we go, we will explain how long to leave it and what to avoid for the first few days.

  1. We protect the bath and the floor around it.
  2. The damaged area is cleaned, keyed and degreased.
  3. Filler goes in and is sanded flush once it has set.
  4. We match both the colour and the shine.
  5. We clear up and give you the curing time, normally until the next day.

Preparing for the visit

  • Let us know about parking or access
  • Tell us if there are stairs or a lift
  • Plan for the room to be out of bounds to pets and children

What your bath is made of matters

Acrylic

Acrylic feels warm and is light, but it relies on good support. Cracks are strengthened from behind before the front is finished.

Composite and resin

Stone resin and composite baths are heavy and solid, and frequently freestanding. Chips and scratches can be filled and colour matched, in much the same way.

Looking after it afterwards

It’s all simple stuff:

  • If an acrylic bath flexes, have its feet adjusted
  • Give the bath a quick rinse after use
  • Store metal items away from the bath
  • Do not leave a fresh chip for long

There’s nothing special to do after a repair, beyond gentle cleaning. Skip bleach and gritty creams and rinse after use.

A chip on a metal bath shouldn’t be left. Once water reaches the metal, rust begins, and a rust spot is a bigger repair than a clean chip.

Should I try a DIY kit first?

The difference between a kit and a professional repair is mostly in the preparation and colour. We clean and key the area properly, mix the colour to your surface and finish it to the same sheen, then guarantee it for a year.

DIY kits are sold for most surfaces, and they can make a small mark look better. The trouble is colour and preparation: kits come in a few standard shades, and without proper cleaning and keying the filler often lifts.
