Repairing versus replacing in Brookfoot

Cast iron baths especially are worth keeping: they’re very heavy to remove, especially upstairs, and a like-for-like replacement can be expensive. Repairing it leaves it where it is. Prices start from £95. A repair usually costs much less than people expect, particularly next to the cost of replacement. Send pictures and we will give you the exact figure.

Bath repair in Brookfoot without replacing anything

A damaged bath doesn’t have to mean a new bathroom. We fill the damage, shape it to the curve of the bath and refinish it, mixing the colour on the day so the repair is hard to spot. If you’re dealing with damage done while the bathroom was being fitted and scratches you can feel with a fingernail, we can typically put it right, whatever the material.

You get a one-year guarantee, the same in Brookfoot as everywhere else we work.

What we do, step by step

We turn up at the time we agreed with you, introduces themselves and checks the damage against your pictures first. The floor and nearby surfaces are covered before any work starts. Most visits take two to three hours for most chips, and the room is left clean and tidy.

  1. Dust sheets and masking go down around the bath.
  2. The damaged area is cleaned, keyed and degreased, and any rust is treated.
  3. Filler goes in and is sanded flush once it has set.
  4. Colour and gloss are matched to the surrounding surface.
  5. We clear up and give you the curing time, normally until the following day.

Before we arrive

  • Let us know which floor the room is on
  • Plan for the room to be out of bounds to pets and children
  • Move bottles, mats and clutter away from the area

When we’d advise against a repair

Honesty matters more than a booking, so here’s what a repair will not do:

  • Metal that has corroded all the way through
  • Cracks in parts of an acrylic bath we cannot get to from below
  • Water coming from the waste or taps rather than the bath

Send us photos and we’ll tell you honestly.

Materials we work on in Brookfoot

  • Whirlpool & spa baths
  • Cast iron enamel
  • Roll-top & freestanding
  • Acrylic
  • Pressed steel enamel

Common problems we fix in Brookfoot

Rust typically starts where water sits, around the waste, under the taps or in an old chip. Once water reaches the steel or iron, rust spreads under the enamel.

People typically call us after spotting one of these:

  • Rust spots around the plughole
  • Cracks in an acrylic bath
  • Scuffs and scratches in the surface
  • A failed DIY repair that is discoloured or lifting

Before you book anyone

  • How to care for the finish
  • The length of the guarantee and what it covers
  • How soon you can use it again
  • Whether the price is fixed and includes VAT

Our hiring checklist

DIY kit or professional repair?

A kit can be fine for a tiny mark out of sight. For damage in plain view, cracks, holes or rust, or coloured finishes, a professional repair is worth it.

You can buy a DIY kit for most repairs, and they can make a small mark look better. Where they fall down is colour and preparation: they come in a handful of shades, and if the surface isn’t prepared the repair won’t last.

Questions from Brookfoot

What happens if you find more damage?

We will show you and explain before doing anything extra. You will not be charged for anything you haven’t agreed.

Will the repair show?

On a bath in good condition, a colour-matched repair is very hard to spot. On older, dull enamel the repair can look glossier than the area around it.

Do you work in Brookfoot?

Yes. We work across the UK and travel to Brookfoot and the rest of Calderdale. Send pictures and we’ll quote, or call 0345 017 0787.

Do you charge for travel?

Travel is included in the price, and we charge the same wherever you are.

Do you cover the entire of Calderdale?

All of Calderdale, and the rest of the UK. Travel is included in the price.

Is there any odour?

There may be a mild smell during the work.

Can you repair a crack in an acrylic bath?

Usually, yes, if we can reach the underside to reinforce it. Take off the bath panel and check, or send us a picture.

Can you quote from pictures?

Yes, almost always. Clear pictures let us give you a fixed price without visiting.

What your bath is made of matters

Pressed steel

Steel baths are lighter than cast iron, but have a similar enamel surface. Exposed steel rusts fast, particularly by the plughole, so early repairs matter.

Acrylic

Acrylic feels warm and is light, but it relies on good support. Repairs to cracks are reinforced from the back.

What bath repair costs

Repairs from £95. There are no hourly rates or hidden extras. The price is based on:

  • Whether we combine several jobs
  • Unusual colours or finishes
  • Whether old repairs or coatings need taking off
  • How many areas need work

Every job is a little different, so each one is priced on its own. What’s damaged, how badly and how easy it is to reach all make a difference, and combining jobs on one visit brings the cost down.

How to get a fixed price

Phone pictures are fine, there’s no need for anything special. Just make sure we can see:

  • Natural light rather than flash
  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit
  • A picture taken from further back
  • Something in shot to show the size

Ring 0345 017 0787, or send us pictures through the quote form. With a clear picture of the damage and one of the entire bath, we can give you a fixed price without visiting.
