Bath and surface repairs in HX3

Live in HX3? We cover Halifax, Lee Mount and Akroydon and the rest of the district, repairing in place.

About bath repair in HX3

It pays to repair bath damage while it’s small. Exposed metal on enamelled baths soon rusts, and on acrylic, a crack keeps spreading while the bath flexes. A repair stops both. Typical jobs include holes from dropped items and a chip where the taps sit, across cast iron enamel, whirlpool & spa baths and acrylic.

Once we’re through the door, the aim is to do the job without disturbing the rest of your home. We mask off everything nearby, the work takes two to three hours for most chips, depending on what we find, and we finish with a tidy-up and a look at the finished work together.

  1. Dust sheets and masking go down around the bath.
  2. The damaged area is cleaned, keyed and degreased.
  3. We fill it, let it set, then sand it flush.
  4. Colour and gloss are matched to the surrounding surface.
  5. We tidy up and tell you when the bath can be used, usually the next day.

Our bath repair starts from £95. The price reflects the work involved, not where you live. The full price is agreed before you book, with nothing added on the day.

Aftercare tips

To keep it looking its best:

  • Rinse the bath after use, especially in hard water areas
  • Don’t leave razors or cans standing in the bath
  • Stick to mild cleaners and a soft cloth
  • Get any new chip repaired before it rusts

Leave the repair to cure for as long as we say before using the bath. After that, gentle cleaning keeps it looking good.

Rust spreads under enamel faster than most people expect. Left for months, a small chip can grow into a large rust patch, so it pays to deal with it early.

What a repair can’t fix

Not everything can be repaired, and we will tell you before we start. We can’t fix:

  • Cracks in acrylic we can’t reach from underneath
  • Leaking fittings, which need a plumber
  • A bath that moves underfoot, until its support is fixed

DIY repairs versus a professional job

Kits are cheap and easy to find, but many of the jobs we do start with putting right a DIY repair. Doing it properly first is usually the cheaper route.

A DIY attempt is not a disaster. We take the old repair out and do it properly, so it will not stop us repairing it. It does add a little time, so tell us about it when you send photos.

Why repair rather than replace?

Replacing a fitted bath normally involves a plumber, lifting out the old bath, making good the tiles and panel and getting rid of the old bath. A repair fixes just the damaged area in a single visit.

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Composite and resin

Stone resin and composite baths are heavy and solid, and frequently freestanding. Chips and scratches can be filled and colour matched, just like other baths.

Pressed steel

Pressed steel is thinner and lighter, with an enamel finish like cast iron. Exposed steel rusts fast, particularly by the plughole, so repair chips early.
