Work for landlords and builders
Rented homes see more wear and tear, and replacing things at every changeover adds up. Repairing between tenants keeps the property presentable for less.
For developers and builders, we fix damage before handover. Several plots can be done in one visit to keep costs down.
About our bath repair in Cargenbridge
Repairing baths is what we do most. Chips on the rim, rust around the waste and cracks in acrylic are all fixed without removing the bath, normally in a single visit. We’re frequently asked to fix a failed DIY repair that’s discoloured or lifting and scuffs and scratches in the surface, on roll-top & freestanding, pressed steel enamel and cast iron enamel.
We stand behind the work with a one-year guarantee.

What we can’t put right
A repair is not always the answer, and we would rather say so up front. Repairs will not solve:
- Water coming from the waste or taps rather than the bath
- A bath that flexes because its feet or cradle have failed (that needs fixing first)
- Cracks in acrylic we cannot reach from underneath
Send us pictures and we will tell you honestly before you book.

Repair or replace: which is better?
When the bath is otherwise sound, repairing beats replacing. It’s quicker, cheaper and far less disruptive, and you keep the bath you chose. If the entire surface is worn, re-enamelling may make more sense, and we will tell you. Prices start from £95. Compared with replacing, a repair is generally a fraction of the price, because there is no removal, plumbing or making good. Your fixed quote shows exactly what’s included.
Why us?

Common problems we fix in Cargenbridge
Most bath damage comes from something dropped: a shampoo bottle, a shower head, a tile or a tool during a refit. On steel and cast iron baths, a chip that reaches the metal will start to rust.
Typical reasons for a call-out include:
- A chipped rim or side
- Scratches you can feel with a fingernail
- A hole punched through by something heavy
- Chips under the taps
Before you book anyone

How to look after the repair
Good habits make a big difference to how long a repair lasts:
- Cover the bath during DIY or decorating
- Do not leave a fresh chip for long
- Rinse it down after each bath
- Avoid scourers, wire wool and gritty cream cleaners
Clean with mild, non-abrasive cleaners and avoid dropping heavy items on the repaired area. Deal with new chips early, before rust sets in.
Until we visit, a strip of waterproof tape over the damage helps, so water can’t get in. Remove it before the repair.
The process
Your technician turns up when we said we would, introduces themselves and checks the damage against your photos first. The floor and nearby surfaces are covered before we open a single tin. The work itself takes a morning or an afternoon, and the room is left clean and tidy.
- First, the area is cleaned and any loose enamel or rust is removed.
- We fill the damage and sand it flush with the surrounding surface.
- We mix the colour on the day to match your bath’s exact shade.
- We build up the finish and polish it into the surrounding enamel.
- We leave it to cure; you can generally use the bath the day after.

Advice
DIY kit or professional repair?
You can buy a DIY kit for most repairs, and they can tidy up a tiny mark. The trouble is colour and preparation: kits come in a few standard shades, and without proper cleaning and keying the filler often lifts.
Kits are cheap and easy to find, but many of the jobs we do start with putting right a DIY repair. Getting it right first time is normally cheaper.
Materials and what they mean for the repair
Pressed steel
Under the enamel of a steel bath is thin metal. Exposed steel rusts quickly, so we treat and seal the metal before filling.
Acrylic
Acrylic is light and warm to the touch, but it needs firm support underneath. Cracks are strengthened from behind before the front is finished.
