Bath repair in Castle, done in place

It pays to repair bath damage while it’s small. Exposed metal on enamelled baths soon rusts, and on acrylic, a crack keeps spreading while the bath flexes. Repairing it stops the damage getting worse. We work on roll-top & freestanding, whirlpool & spa baths and acrylic, and common reasons people contact us are rust by the waste and overflow and chips along the edge of the bath.

A one-year guarantee comes as standard, so you are covered after the visit.

Before and after: a chipped, rust-stained bath around the plughole

Aftercare tips

Nothing complicated is needed, just a few sensible habits:

  • Don’t leave a fresh chip for long
  • Give the bath a quick rinse after use
  • Get a dripping tap fixed promptly
  • Stick to mild cleaners and a soft cloth

There is nothing special to do after a repair. Skip bleach and gritty creams and give it a rinse after each bath.

A chip on a metal bath shouldn’t be left. Once water reaches the metal, rust begins, and a rust spot is a bigger repair than a clean chip.

What happens on the day

Once we’re through the door, the aim is to do the job without disturbing the rest of your home. Surfaces nearby are masked off, the job takes a morning or an afternoon, and we finish by cleaning up and talking you through the result.

  1. Dust sheets and masking go down around the bath.
  2. The damaged area is cleaned, keyed and degreased, and any rust is treated.
  3. We fill it, let it set, then sand it flush.
  4. We match both the colour and the shine.
  5. We clear up and give you the curing time, normally until the following day.

Advice

For landlords and businesses

Housing associations and facilities teams use us for planned and reactive repairs. A repair avoids taking out and refitting, which is easier on the people living there.

Builders, developers and site managers book us for snagging repairs, putting right damage done during fitting. We hold CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor accreditations.

Repairing versus replacing in Castle

Swapping a damaged bath for a new one usually means a plumber, removing the old bath, re-tiling and a new panel and disposing of the old one. A repair fixes just the damaged area in a single visit. Prices start from £95. The price reflects the work involved, not your postcode. You will see the full price before you book, with nothing added on the day.

What you get with us

  • Colour mixed on the day to match
  • Work done at your home or business
  • Straight answers about what a repair can do
  • Fixed prices from your pictures

What bath repair costs

Prices start from £95. We give every job a fixed price from photos. These are the things that affect it:

  • How much damage there is
  • What kind of damage it is
  • Unusual colours or finishes
  • The material and finish

We charge the same wherever you are, with no extra for Castle. The job itself decides the price: the material, the amount of damage and how many items.

Quotes from your photos

You can usually get a fixed quote without us visiting. To help us price it:

  • A coin or ruler next to the damage for scale
  • One picture of the entire bath
  • Any details about the material
  • Whether it’s been repaired or coated before

Getting a quote takes a couple of minutes: photograph the damage, then the entire bath, add your postcode and send them to us. You will get a fixed price, not an estimate.

Different materials, different repairs

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are thick and very strong, finished with fired enamel. Chips can rust if left, but the body of the bath lasts a very long time, so it’s always worth repairing.

Composite and resin

Composite baths are dense and solid. Chips and scratches are filled and matched, in much the same way.

When we would advise against a repair

A repair is not right for every job, including:

  • Acrylic cracks with no access behind them
  • A bath that moves underfoot, until its support is fixed
  • A whole bath that is dull or worn, where a full re-enamel is the better fix

If in doubt, send pictures and we’ll say what we think before booking.

Materials we work on in Castle

  • Whirlpool & spa baths
  • Pressed steel enamel
  • Cast iron enamel
  • Roll-top & freestanding
  • Acrylic

Should I try a DIY kit first?

We understand the appeal of fixing it yourself. The risk is that a kit repair hides the damage for a while, then fails, and the old filler has to come out before a proper repair.

A DIY attempt isn’t a disaster. We take the old repair out and do it properly, so it does not stop a professional repair. Just mention it when you send pictures, as it can add time.
