Bath repair in Chegworth

Bath repair in Chegworth, done in place

Repairing baths is what we do most. A chip by the taps, a crack in the base and a rust spot by the plughole are all repaired in place, normally in one visit. If you are dealing with a kit repair that didn’t last and holes from dropped items, we can typically put it right.

A one-year guarantee comes with the work, just as it does everywhere we cover.

Should you replace it?

A new bath costs more than the bath itself: taking out the old one, plumbing, tiling, a panel and redecorating. A repair is one job, done in one visit. Prices start from £95. No two jobs are quite the same, so we price each one individually. What’s damaged, how badly and how easy it is to reach all make a difference, and combining jobs on one visit brings the cost down.

Why us?

  • Colours mixed by hand to suit your surface
  • Dust sheets down, tidy finish
  • A year’s guarantee on all work
  • CHAS and Constructionline accredited

DIY repairs versus a professional job

DIY kits are sold for most surfaces, and they can make a small mark look better. Where they fall down is colour and preparation: they come in a handful of shades, and if the surface isn’t prepared the repair will not last.

It’s tempting to reach for a kit, but many of the jobs we do start with putting right a DIY repair. Getting it right first time is usually cheaper.

How it works

When we visit, we arrive at the time we’ve agreed, cover the area with dust sheets and masking, and set to work. The job typically takes a few hours. We tidy up before we leave and tell you when it’s ready to use.

  1. First, the area is cleaned and any loose enamel or rust is removed.
  2. Next we fill the damage and sand it smooth and level.
  3. The colour is mixed on the spot to match your bath.
  4. We build up the finish and polish it into the surrounding enamel.
  5. Once it has cured, usually by the next day, the bath is ready to use.

Getting ready for the visit

Advice

What your bath is made of matters

Cast iron

A cast iron bath is heavy enough that most people never want to move it. Only the enamel surface wears or chips, and that is what we repair.

Acrylic

Acrylic baths are moulded sheet reinforced underneath. They do not rust, but they can crack, scratch or be holed, and cracks need support from behind to stay fixed.

What we can’t put right

A few problems are outside what a surface repair can do:

  • Leaking fittings, which need a plumber
  • Cracks in acrylic we can’t reach from underneath
  • Rust that has eaten right through a steel bath

If in doubt, send pictures and we’ll say what we think before you book.

Surfaces we repair

  • Roll-top & freestanding
  • Acrylic
  • Whirlpool & spa baths
  • Pressed steel enamel
  • Cast iron enamel

Keeping it looking good

Aftercare is simple, and it makes a real difference:

  • Get a dripping tap fixed promptly
  • Rinse it down after each bath
  • Avoid scourers, wire wool and gritty cream cleaners
  • Don’t leave a fresh chip for long

For the first few days, keep heavy bottles off the repaired spot. After that, clean it as you would the rest of the bath, avoiding abrasives.

Tape over a fresh chip or crack until it’s repaired, so water cannot get in. Take it off before we arrive.

For landlords and businesses

We also carry out snagging repairs for builders and developers, putting right damage done during fitting so nothing needs replacing. We hold CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor accreditations.

For developers and builders, we fix damage before handover, saving last-minute replacements. Several plots can be done in one visit.

Questions from Chegworth

How long before I can use the bath?

Normally by the following day, depending on the repair.

Is a holed acrylic bath repairable?

In most cases. Photos of the hole and the underside help us check.

Is my repair covered?

All our work carries a one-year guarantee. Ask us what it covers when you get your quote.

Can you quote from photos?

Nearly always. If photos don’t show enough, we’ll ask for another angle.

Can you repair a crack in an acrylic bath?

In most cases. We reinforce the crack from behind, then fill and refinish the front, so access behind the panel is important.

Can you redo someone else’s repair?

Generally, yes. Let us know what was used before.

I’m a tenant. Can you help?

Yes, but check with your landlord or agent first. Many landlords are happy for a repair to be arranged before the end of a tenancy.

Is it OK to have pets in the house?

Please keep children and pets out of the room during the visit. Everywhere else in the home is fine.

Do you need bath repair in Chegworth?

A bath gets knocked about more than you’d think: bottles, shower heads and razors are dropped every day, and fittings press hard against the enamel. Sooner or later, most baths pick up a chip.

The most common problems we are called about are:

  • Holes from dropped items
  • A kit repair that didn’t last
  • Chips caused by builders
  • Damage beneath the taps
