FAQs for D'Arcy

What areas do you cover?

All of Midlothian, and the rest of the UK. Travel is included in the price.

How invisible is a bath repair?

We aim for a repair you cannot easily find. The rest of the bath’s condition makes a difference.

What do you need from me?

Photos of the damage, a picture of the whole bath and your postcode. After that, we just agree a date.

How soon can you come?

Your quote comes with available dates. If it’s urgent, say so and we will do what we can.

Is there a call-out fee?

There’s no separate call-out charge. Your fixed quote includes everything.

Can I get a quote without a visit?

Normally, yes. A close-up and a wider photo are enough to give a fixed quote.

What happens after I send pictures?

We check the damage, the material and your postcode, then reply with a quote with dates.

Can landlords book you?

We do, regularly. We quote for multiple addresses and fit around tenancy changeovers.

Bath repair in D'Arcy, done in place

Whether your bath is steel, cast iron or acrylic, we can repair it. The method changes with the material: metal baths need any rust dealt with first, and acrylic cracks need support from behind. Whether it’s a chipped rim or side and hairline or through cracks in acrylic, we can help, on cast iron enamel, roll-top & freestanding and pressed steel enamel alike.

Big or small, you get the same one-year guarantee in D'Arcy and across Midlothian.

Can I fix it myself?

For a hairline mark somewhere you’ll never see, a kit may be enough. For anything you look at every day, anything that has rusted, cracked or holed, or anything on a coloured surface, it’s worth having it done properly.

It’s natural to want to try a repair yourself. The risk is that a kit repair hides the damage for a while, then fails, and then the old filler has to be removed first.

The process

You don’t need to empty the room beforehand. Everything we use comes in the van with us, put protection down and get going once we have agreed what we are doing. Most jobs take a few hours, and you can get on with other things while we’re there.

  1. We clean the area and remove any loose enamel or rust.
  2. The chip or crack is filled, then sanded level with the bath.
  3. The colour is mixed on the spot to match your bath.
  4. Finish coats go on, then the repair is polished to blend in.
  5. Once it has cured, normally by the next day, the bath is ready to use.

How to prepare

  • Tell us about parking, stairs or access
  • Clear the area around the damage
  • Ensure the room can be ventilated

How we price bath repair

Prices start from £95. You won’t pay by the hour. The price depends on:

  • What kind of damage it is
  • How hard the colour is to match
  • Access to the area
  • Whether old repairs or coatings need taking off

Every job is a little different, so we price each one individually. The size and type of damage, the material and access all make a difference, and combining jobs on one visit brings the cost down.

Send pictures for a quote

Most quotes are done from pictures alone. To make it quick:

  • The material, if you know it
  • Details of any past repairs
  • Something in shot to show the size
  • A wider photo showing the entire bath

If you’re in D'Arcy and want a price, the easiest route is photos: a close-up, a wider shot and your postcode. You will get a fixed quote with dates to choose from.

Common problems we fix in D'Arcy

Baths take more knocks than people expect: everyday items get dropped into it all the time, and taps and wastes are tightened against the surface. Over time, chips and rust spots are almost inevitable.

Keep an eye out for these signs:

  • Rust spots around the plughole
  • Hairline or through cracks in acrylic
  • Scuffs and scratches in the surface
  • Chips on the rim or sides

What to look for in a quote

  • How long it needs to cure
  • What the guarantee covers, and for how long
  • Whether they match the colour on site
  • Whether the price covers travel

Our hiring checklist

Different materials, different repairs

Acrylic

Acrylic baths are moulded sheet reinforced underneath. There’s no rust, but cracks, holes and scratches happen, and cracks need support from behind to stay fixed.

Composite and resin

Composite baths are dense and solid. Chips and scratches are filled and matched, in much the same way.

Repair or replace in D'Arcy?

If the rest of the bath is in good condition, a repair is almost always the better choice. It costs less, takes less time and causes far less upheaval, and you keep the bath you chose. If the whole surface is worn, re-enamelling may make more sense, and we’ll tell you. Prices start from £95. We do not add extras on the day. The price we quote from your pictures is the price you pay, unless the damage turns out to be different, in which case we talk to you first.

Why us?

  • Colours mixed by hand to suit your surface
  • Accredited with CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor
  • Everything repaired in place
  • One visit for most repairs

How to look after the repair

Nothing complicated is needed, just a few sensible habits:

  • Have new chips seen to early
  • Cover the bath during DIY or decorating
  • Keep abrasive pads and gritty cleaners away from the bath
  • Stick to mild cleaners and a soft cloth

Keep metal objects like razors and cans off the surface, as they can leave rust marks. And fix dripping taps promptly.

Rust under enamel spreads surprisingly quickly. Left for months, a small chip can grow into a large rust patch, so early repair keeps the cost down.

Work for landlords and builders

Rental properties take more wear, and replacing items every time a tenant leaves is expensive. A repair between tenancies is a cheaper way to keep the property in good order.

Letting agents frequently send us pictures straight from the inventory. That means we can quote before you even visit the property, and we liaise with tenants about access if you’d like us to.
