How we handle bath repair in Dimson

A damaged bath doesn’t have to mean a new bathroom. Our repair technicians fill, shape and refinish the damage, with the colour mixed on site so the repair is hard to spot. Whether it’s snagging damage from a refit and a failed DIY repair that’s discoloured or lifting, we can generally put it right.

A one-year guarantee comes with the work, just as it does everywhere we cover.

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Pressed steel

Under the enamel of a steel bath is thin metal. Exposed steel rusts quickly, so we treat and seal the metal before filling.

Composite and resin

Composite baths are dense and solid, and frequently freestanding. Chips and scratches are filled and matched, just like other baths.

When we’d advise against a repair

We will not take on work that will not last, so these are the limits:

  • A bath worn all over, where resurfacing makes more sense
  • Leaking fittings, which need a plumber
  • Flexing caused by a failed cradle or loose feet

Not sure? Send photos and we will give you a straight answer before you book.

Materials we repair

  • Roll-top & freestanding
  • Cast iron enamel
  • Acrylic
  • Whirlpool & spa baths
  • Pressed steel enamel

Should I try a DIY kit first?

If you’re set on a kit, follow its instructions closely, and do not use it until it has fully cured. If it does not work out, we can still repair it properly.

We understand the appeal of fixing it yourself. The risk is that a kit repair hides the damage for a while, then fails, and then the old filler has to be removed first.

Signs you need bath repair in Dimson

Most bath damage comes from something dropped: a shampoo bottle, a shower head, a tile or a tool during a refit. On steel and cast iron baths, a chip that reaches the metal lets water in, and rust follows.

These are the problems we are asked about most:

  • Snagging damage from a refit
  • Chips under the taps
  • Hairline or through cracks in acrylic
  • An old repair that has yellowed or come loose

What your quote should include

  • Whether they match the colour on site
  • What prep work is covered
  • How long the guarantee is and what it covers
  • How your room will be protected

How to compare quotes

Why repair rather than replace?

Replacing a bath rarely stops at the bath: tiles along the rim normally crack when it comes out, a new panel is often needed, and the plumbing has to be disconnected and refitted. A repair skips all of it. Repairs from £95, with every job priced individually. A repair typically costs much less than people expect, particularly next to the cost of replacement. Photos let us give you the exact figure.

What we do, step by step

You don’t need to empty the room beforehand. Everything we use comes in the van with us, put protection down and get going once we have agreed what we are doing. It generally takes a morning or an afternoon, and you can get on with other things while we’re there.

  1. First, we check the damage against your pictures and agree the plan.
  2. Loose enamel, rust and dirt are removed so the repair can bond.
  3. The damage is filled in layers and shaped to the curve of the bath.
  4. The colour is tinted by hand until it matches.
  5. The repair is polished to the same gloss as the bath and left to cure.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Tell us about any previous repairs or coatings
  • Mention if the room is upstairs or in a flat
  • Have a window or extractor fan available

Landlords, agents and businesses in Dimson

We regularly work with letting and managing agents. Just send pictures, the address and how to get access and we will arrange it.

Hotels, guest houses and holiday lets need rooms back in use quickly, so most of our work is done in a single visit. We will fit around changeovers where we can.

Looking after it afterwards

Nothing complicated is needed:

  • If an acrylic bath flexes, have its feet adjusted
  • Rinse the bath after use, especially in hard water areas
  • Do not leave a fresh chip for long
  • Fix dripping taps early to stop staining and limescale

Use gentle, non-abrasive cleaners and try not to drop heavy bottles on the repair. Get any new chip seen to quickly, before rust can start.

Stop using the bath if a crack lets water through. Water under the bath can damage the floor and the ceiling below.

FAQs for Dimson

Is there any odour?

There can be some smell while we work, which is why we ventilate. It fades as everything cures.

Is a repair better than a new one?

In most cases, yes. Replacement brings removal, refitting and making good, which a repair avoids. We’ll be honest if it’s not worth it.

Can I add another job to the visit?

Of course, and it normally saves money. Send pictures of everything together and you will get one combined price.

Do you hold any accreditations?

We hold CHAS, Constructionline, SafeContractor, SMAS Worksafe and Builder’s Profile accreditations.

Is a bath repair durable?

It should, as long as the bath is firm and the area was prepared well. It carries our one-year guarantee.

Can a cracked acrylic bath be fixed?

Most of the time. The back of the crack is strengthened before the front is filled and refinished, so we need access under the bath.

Which areas do you work in?

The whole UK, including all of Cornwall. Just include your postcode and we will confirm dates.

Can you redo an old repair?

Regularly. We strip it out, deal with any rust and repair it again.
