How it works
Your technician turns up when we said we would and checks the damage against your photos first. Dust sheets and masking tape go down before we open a single tin. Most visits take two to three hours for most chips, and we leave the room as we found it.
- We protect the bath and the floor around it.
- We clean, key and degrease the damage.
- Filler goes in and is sanded flush once it has set.
- We match both the colour and the shine.
- We tidy up and tell you when the bath can be used, generally the day after.
Getting ready for the visit

- Open a window if you can

About our bath repair in Docklow
Whether your bath is steel, cast iron or acrylic, we can repair it. Each material is repaired a little differently: metal baths need any rust dealt with first, and acrylic cracks need support from behind. We are frequently asked to fix a hole punched through by something heavy and damage done while the bathroom was being fitted, across pressed steel enamel, whirlpool & spa baths and roll-top & freestanding.
Every job is backed for twelve months in Docklow and everywhere else. We return to put right any problem with the work.

Docklow: your questions answered
Can you redo someone else’s repair?
Generally, yes. Let us know what was used before and we’ll plan for it.
Will there be a smell?
Some materials have a smell while they’re applied. It fades as everything cures.
How invisible is a bath repair?
On a glossy bath, you will struggle to find it. On worn enamel, it can look shinier than the rest.
What areas do you cover?
Everywhere in the UK, Docklow included. Travel is included in the price.
Is it messy?
We protect the room with dust sheets and masking first, and tidy up before we leave.
Can pets and children be at home?
Yes, as long as they stay out of the room we are working in. We will let you know when it’s safe to use again.
Do you do work for letting agents?
Yes, often. We can quote for several properties together and work between tenancies.
What happens if you find more damage?
Your quote covers the damage in the photos. Anything extra is discussed before we begin.
Looking after it afterwards
Nothing complicated is needed:
- Rinse the bath after use, especially in hard water areas
- Don’t scrub with anything abrasive
- Ensure an acrylic bath is firm underfoot
- Protect the bath with a towel when doing jobs nearby
Keep metal objects like razors and cans off the surface, because they can mark the enamel. A dripping tap should be fixed early, too.
Until we visit, a strip of waterproof tape over the damage helps, to keep water out. Remove it before the repair.

Prices and what affects them
Repairs from £95. You will know the full cost before you book. We take into account:
- What the surface is made of
- Where the damage is and how we get to it
- What kind of damage it is
- Doing more than one item at once
What it costs depends on how much damage there is and what kind, what it’s made of and how many jobs we combine into one visit. You get a fixed quote from your photos, so you know the cost before booking.
How to get a fixed quote
Most quotes are done from photos alone. To help us price it:
- Details of any past repairs
- Where you are, by postcode
- Something in shot to show the size
- A photo taken from further back
We price from photos so you do not have to wait in for a survey. Use the quote form, or ring 0345 017 0787 to talk it through, and you’ll get a fixed figure back.
Materials and what they mean for the repair
Pressed steel
Pressed steel is thinner and lighter, with an enamel finish like cast iron. Exposed steel rusts fast, particularly by the plughole, so repair chips early.
Composite and resin
Stone resin and composite baths are heavy and solid, and frequently freestanding. Chips and scratches can be filled and colour-matched, in much the same way.
When to call us in Docklow
Glass and heavy bottles cause more chips than anything else. Taps and wastes cause problems too: water collects there, so chips nearby rust quickly.
Keep an eye out for these signs:
- A failed DIY repair that’s discoloured or lifting
- A cracked acrylic bath
- Impact holes in acrylic
- Rust by the waste and overflow
Questions to ask before you book
- How long the guarantee is and what it covers
- What protection goes down before work starts
- What happens if they find more damage
- If travel is included in the price
Why repair rather than replace?
Cast iron baths in particular are worth repairing: getting one out, particularly from an upstairs bathroom, is a big job, and a like-for-like replacement can be expensive. A repair keeps it in place. Prices start from £95. Set against the cost of replacement, repairing generally costs far less, because nothing has to be taken out, refitted or made good. The quote lists exactly what you are paying for.
Why Docklow clients choose us
- We’ll tell you if it’s not worth repairing
- Colours mixed by hand to suit your surface
- Work done at your home or business
- Everything repaired in place
Take a look at our prices page and guide to resurfacing and replacement costs.
Should I try a DIY kit first?
You can buy a DIY kit for most repairs, and they can tidy up a tiny mark. The trouble is colour and preparation: they come in a handful of shades, and if the surface is not prepared the repair will not last.
It’s tempting to reach for a kit, but the repairs we redo most frequently are DIY ones that have discoloured or lifted. Doing it properly first is typically the cheaper route.
When we’d advise against a repair
It helps to know what we cannot do:
- Flexing caused by a failed cradle or loose feet
- A steel bath rusted through
- Leaking fittings, which need a plumber
