Bath repair for Dumbarton homes

Common problems we fix in Dumbarton

Dropped items cause the majority of chips, and a lot happen during bathroom refits. Cracks in acrylic have a different cause: poor support underneath, so the bath flexes when it’s full.

Customers generally contact us about:

  • Cracks in an acrylic bath
  • Chips caused by builders
  • A kit repair that didn’t last
  • Chips on the rim or sides

Bath repair at your home in Dumbarton

Repairing baths is what we do most. Chips on the rim, rust around the waste and cracks in acrylic are all repaired in place, normally in one visit. We regularly repair roll-top & freestanding, pressed steel enamel and acrylic, and people most often call us about cracks in an acrylic bath and chips along the edge of the bath.

You’re covered after we leave: our one-year guarantee applies to every job, and we’ll explain exactly what it covers when we quote.

Before and after: a damaged acrylic bath corner repaired in place

Repairs by material

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are thick and very strong, finished with fired enamel. A chip down to the iron can rust, but the bath itself lasts for generations, so it’s always worth repairing.

Pressed steel

Steel baths and trays have a thin metal body under the enamel. Exposed steel rusts quickly, so we treat and seal the metal before filling.

Landlords, agents and businesses in Dumbarton

Hospitality businesses need rooms back in use quickly, so most of our work is done in a single visit. We can work around your bookings.

Housing associations and facilities teams use us for planned and reactive repairs. Repairing in place avoids the disruption of a replacement, which matters when someone is living in the home.

Dumbarton: your questions answered

How long before I can use the bath?

Most baths can be used the day after. We confirm the time before we leave.

Do you come to Dumbarton?

Yes, we do. We send a technician to Dumbarton for every job, with no extra charge for travel.

When can you do it?

It depends on the time of year and where you are. We’ll offer you dates when we send your quote.

Are you accredited?

We hold CHAS, Constructionline, SafeContractor, SMAS Worksafe and Builder’s Profile accreditations.

I rent my home. Can I book you?

We’re happy to deal with the tenant, landlord or agent. Get your landlord’s agreement first.

Is a bath repair durable?

A properly prepared repair should last a long time, and it’s guaranteed for a year. Gentle cleaning helps it last.

Do you cover the whole of West Dunbartonshire?

Across the UK. Prices don’t change with location.

Can you quote from pictures?

In nearly every case. If pictures do not show enough, we’ll ask for another angle.

Should you replace it?

If the rest of the bath is in good condition, a repair is almost always the better choice. It’s quicker, cheaper and far less disruptive, and you keep the bath you chose. If the whole surface is worn, re-enamelling may make more sense, and we’ll tell you. Prices start from £95. No two jobs are quite the same, so we price each one individually. What’s damaged, how badly and how easy it is to reach all make a difference, and combining jobs on one visit brings the cost down.

Why book with us

How to look after the repair

Once the work has cured, treat it gently:

  • Avoid scourers, wire wool and gritty cream cleaners
  • Give the bath a quick rinse after use
  • Don’t leave razors or cans standing in the bath
  • If an acrylic bath flexes, have its feet adjusted

Look after the repair the same way as the bath: a soft cloth and washing-up liquid is all it needs. Keep scouring pads and gritty cleaners away from it.

If water is getting through a crack, stop using the bath until it’s repaired. Leaks under a bath can damage floors and ceilings.

When we would advise against a repair

Some problems need a builder, plumber or fitter rather than us:

  • Cracks in parts of an acrylic bath we cannot get to from below
  • A bath worn all over, where resurfacing makes more sense
  • Water coming from the waste or taps rather than the bath

If in doubt, send photos and we will say what we think.

Materials we repair

How the visit works

A typical visit goes like this: we arrive on time, sheet and mask the area around the job, do the job and clear up. Plan for a morning or an afternoon. Before we go, we’ll explain when it can be used and how to care for it.

  1. We start by cleaning the damage and taking out loose enamel and rust.
  2. We fill the damage and sand it flush with the surrounding surface.
  3. We tint the finish on the day to suit your bath’s shade of white or colour.
  4. Finish coats go on, then the repair is polished to blend in.
  5. Once it has cured, typically by the day after, the bath is ready to use.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Ensure the room can be ventilated
  • Mention if the room is upstairs or in a flat
  • Avoid using the area for a few hours before we arrive

DIY kit or professional repair?

DIY kits are sold for most surfaces, and they can tidy up a tiny mark. Where they fall down is colour and preparation: kits come in a few standard shades, and without proper cleaning and keying the filler frequently lifts.

Kits are cheap and easy to find, but many of the jobs we do start with putting right a DIY repair. Getting it right first time is usually cheaper.
