About our bath repair in East-the-Water

Whether your bath is steel, cast iron or acrylic, we can repair it. Each material is repaired a little differently: metal baths need any rust dealt with first, and acrylic cracks need support from behind. We are often asked to fix chips under the taps and a kit repair that didn’t last, across pressed steel enamel, cast iron enamel and whirlpool & spa baths.

Every job is backed for twelve months. If something goes wrong with the work, we come back.

What happens on the day

Your technician turns up at the time we agreed with you and checks the damage against your pictures first. The floor and nearby surfaces are covered before we open a single tin. Most visits take a few hours, depending on the damage, and the room is left clean and tidy.

  1. First, we check the damage against your pictures and agree the plan.
  2. Loose enamel, rust and dirt are removed so the repair can bond.
  3. The damage is filled in layers and shaped to the curve of the bath.
  4. The colour is tinted by hand until it matches.
  5. Finally, it’s polished to match the shine and left to cure.

Getting ready for the visit

Repairing versus replacing in East-the-Water

If the rest of the bath is in good condition, a repair is almost always the better choice. It costs less, takes less time and causes far less upheaval, and the bathroom stays as it is. If the whole surface is worn, re-enamelling may make more sense, and we’ll tell you. Our bath repair starts from £95. No two jobs are quite the same, so we price each one individually. What’s damaged, how badly and how easy it is to reach all play a part, and doing several things on one visit costs less than separate visits.

Why book with us

Should I try a DIY kit first?

What a professional repair adds is preparation, colour matching and finishing. We prepare the area properly, mix the colour on site and polish the finish to match, and the work is guaranteed.

You can buy a DIY kit for most repairs, and they can make a small mark look better. The trouble is colour and preparation: kits come in a few standard shades, and without proper cleaning and keying the filler frequently lifts.

FAQs for East-the-Water

Do you come to East-the-Water?

We do. Technicians travel to East-the-Water from across the region, and the price is the same as everywhere else.

Can rust on a bath be repaired?

Yes, it’s one of the most common repairs we do. The rust is cut back to clean metal and sealed before we fill and finish it.

Do you repair coloured baths?

Yes, coloured baths are no problem. The colour is tinted by hand on the day.

Can tenants book a repair?

Of course. Check with your landlord; we can send the quote to them too.

Will the repair show?

On a glossy bath, you will struggle to find it. On worn enamel, it can look shinier than the rest.

Is there a call-out fee?

Travel is included in the price, with the same prices everywhere we work.

What happens next?

We look at the photos and reply with a fixed price and some dates. If anything’s unclear, we will ask for another photo.

Can you price it without visiting?

Yes, almost always. Clear pictures let us give you a fixed price without visiting.

What your bath is made of matters

Composite and resin

Stone resin and composite baths are heavy and solid. Chips and scratches are filled and matched, in much the same way.

Acrylic

Acrylic feels warm and is light, but it needs firm support underneath. Repairs to cracks are reinforced from the back.

When a repair isn’t the answer

We will always be straight with you, so here’s what a repair won’t do:

  • A whole bath that’s dull or worn, where a full re-enamel is the better fix
  • Water coming from the waste or taps rather than the bath
  • A bath that moves underfoot, until its support is fixed

If in doubt, send pictures and we will say what we think before you book.

Materials we repair

  • Acrylic
  • Pressed steel enamel
  • Roll-top & freestanding
  • Whirlpool & spa baths
  • Cast iron enamel

How to look after the repair

Most damage we see is avoidable. A few tips:

  • Don’t leave razors or cans standing in the bath
  • Get a dripping tap fixed promptly
  • Rinse the bath after use, especially in hard water areas
  • Don’t leave a fresh chip for long

Do not leave razors, cans or hair grips in the bath, because they can mark the enamel. A dripping tap should be fixed early, too.

Stop using the bath if a crack lets water through. Leaks under a bath can damage floors and ceilings.

Common problems we fix in East-the-Water

The usual cause is something heavy dropped into the bath, and building work is a common culprit. Cracks in acrylic have a different cause: the bath isn’t properly supported, so it flexes under weight.

It’s worth getting a quote if you see:

  • Rusty patches near the plughole
  • Scratches you can feel with a fingernail
  • An old repair that has yellowed or come loose
  • A chipped rim or side
