When we’d advise against a repair
A few problems are outside what a surface repair can do:
- Metal that has corroded all the way through
- A whole bath that’s dull or worn, where a full re-enamel is the better fix
- Cracks in parts of an acrylic bath we cannot get to from below
Not sure? Send photos and we will give you a straight answer.

Bath repair in Fernieside, done in place
We repair enamelled steel, cast iron and acrylic baths. Each material is repaired a little differently: rust is treated on metal baths, while cracks in acrylic are reinforced from underneath. We work on whirlpool & spa baths, acrylic and roll-top & freestanding, and people most frequently call us about scuffs and scratches in the surface and a chipped rim or side.
You are covered after we leave: our one-year guarantee applies to every job, and we explain what it covers before you book.

Repair or replace: which is better?
Cast iron baths especially are worth keeping: getting one out, particularly from an upstairs bathroom, is a big job, and a like-for-like replacement can be expensive. Repairing it leaves it where it is. Prices start from £95. What it costs depends on how much damage there is and what kind, what it’s made of and how many jobs we combine into one visit. We give a fixed quote from your pictures, so you know the cost before booking.

How it works
Nothing needs to be moved out of the room beforehand. Everything we use comes in the van with us, lay protective sheets and start once you are happy with the plan. Most jobs take a few hours, depending on the damage, and you can get on with other things while we’re there.
- First, the area is cleaned and any loose enamel or rust is removed.
- We fill the damage and sand it flush with the surrounding surface.
- We tint the finish on the day to suit your bath’s shade of white or colour.
- We build up the finish and polish it into the surrounding enamel.
- Once it has cured, typically by the day after, the bath is ready to use.
How to prepare
- Clear the area around the damage
- Make sure the area is dry
- Tell us about parking, stairs or access

What your bath is made of matters
Composite and resin
Composite baths are dense and solid, and frequently freestanding. Chips and scratches are filled and matched, in much the same way.
Cast iron
Cast iron is heavy and rigid, finished with fired enamel. A chip down to the iron can rust, but the body of the bath lasts a very long time, so it’s always worth repairing.
DIY kit or professional repair?
The difference between a kit and a professional repair is mostly in the preparation and colour. We clean and key the area properly, mix the colour to your surface and finish it to the same sheen, and the work is guaranteed.
A DIY attempt is not a disaster. We take the old repair out and do it properly, so it won’t stop us repairing it. Just mention it when you send pictures, as it can add time.
How we price bath repair
Prices start from £95. There’s no area surcharge for Fernieside. The price reflects:
- What kind of damage it is
- The size and number of damaged areas
- Doing more than one item at once
- How easy the damage is to reach
A repair is priced on what needs doing, not your postcode. The full price is agreed before you book, with no extras added later.
Getting a price from pictures
Two or three clear photos are normally enough. Try to include:
- The material, if you know it
- A picture taken from further back
- A coin or ruler next to the damage for scale
- Any earlier repairs or coatings
