How we handle bath repair in Ffarmers

Small damage on a bath is worth repairing early. Exposed metal on enamelled baths soon rusts, while cracks in acrylic grow each time the bath moves. Repairing it stops the damage getting worse. Whether it’s snagging damage from a refit and rust spots around the plughole, we can normally put it right, whatever the material.

The work is covered for a year after we finish. If anything isn’t right, ring us and we will sort it.

What we cannot put right

Honesty matters more than a booking, so here’s what a repair won’t do:

  • Leaks from the waste or overflow fittings (a plumber’s job)
  • A bath worn all over, where resurfacing makes more sense
  • Cracks in parts of an acrylic bath we can’t get to from below

Not sure? Send photos and we’ll give you a straight answer before booking.

Surfaces we repair

  • Whirlpool & spa baths
  • Cast iron enamel
  • Roll-top & freestanding
  • Acrylic
  • Pressed steel enamel

DIY repairs versus a professional job

If you are set on a kit, follow its instructions closely, ensure the area is clean and completely dry, and give it the full curing time. If it doesn’t work out, we can still repair it properly.

You can buy a DIY kit for most repairs, and they can make a small mark look better. The trouble is colour and preparation: they come in a handful of shades, and if the surface is not prepared the repair won’t last.

For landlords and businesses

Housing associations and facilities teams use us for planned and reactive repairs. A repair avoids taking out and refitting, which is easier on the people living there.

We regularly work with letting and managing agents. Just send pictures, the address and how to get access and we’ll handle the rest.

What we do, step by step

Here’s how a visit typically runs: we arrive on time, sheet and mask the area around the job, carry out the work and tidy away. Allow two to three hours for most chips. Before leaving, we tell you when it can be used and what to avoid for the first few days.

  1. Dust sheets and masking go down around the bath.
  2. The damaged area is cleaned, keyed and degreased.
  3. Filler goes in and is sanded flush once it has set.
  4. Colour and gloss are matched to the surrounding surface.
  5. We tidy up and tell you when the bath can be used, usually the next day.

Preparing for the visit

  • Clear the area around the damage
  • Open a window if you can
  • Mention if the room is upstairs or in a flat

Your questions about bath repair in Ffarmers

Will I be able to see the repair?

We aim for a repair you can’t easily find. The rest of the bath’s condition makes a difference, and we will tell you what to expect.

Can rust on a bath be repaired?

Yes, it’s one of the most common repairs we do. The rust is cut back to clean metal and sealed before we fill and finish it.

Can landlords book you?

Yes, frequently. We can quote for several properties together and work between tenancies.

How quickly can you book me in?

It depends on the time of year and where you are. We will offer you dates when we send your quote.

Do you charge for travel?

There is no separate call-out charge. The fixed price covers the visit and the work.

What if the damage is worse than the pictures show?

We stop, show you and agree any change before carrying on. Nothing extra is done without your say-so.

When can I have a bath again?

Normally by the following day, though it depends on what we have done.

Can you redo an old repair?

Regularly. We strip it out, deal with any rust and repair it again.

Looking after it afterwards

Aftercare is simple:

  • Get any new chip repaired before it rusts
  • Avoid scourers, wire wool and gritty cream cleaners
  • Fix dripping taps early to stop staining and limescale
  • Put a towel in the bath if you’re working above it

Leave the repair to cure for as long as we say before using the bath. From then on, mild cleaning is all it needs.

Rust spreads under enamel faster than most people expect. A chip the size of a fingernail can become a much larger patch if it’s left for months, so early repair keeps the cost down.

Repair or replace: which is better?

If the rest of the bath is in good condition, a repair is almost always the better choice. It’s quicker, cheaper and far less disruptive, and the bathroom stays as it is. If the whole surface is worn, re-enamelling may make more sense, and we’ll tell you. Our bath repair starts from £95. The price reflects the work involved, not where you live. The full price is agreed before you book.
